All we heard from elsewhere when Warburton was appointed is that he was inflexible and had no plan B. If that was the case previously, it certainly isn't now. He has shown no qualms about changing from his preferred 4-2-3-1 formation, he has shown that he will pick players based on their current form and mix his selections as befits his game plan. Regardless of how this season pans out, I hope we stick with Warburton.

We were equally mystified about Eze's non-goal at the time Bow, but apparently Wells was obstructing the goalkeepers view from an offside position.
Disappointing match. We lacked intensity, were disjointed and were continually let down by our final ball. To be fair, on a good number of occasions there was no one in a decent position to receive it as typified by one of Osayi-Samuel's rare breaks down our right and every single one of our players raced to the goal line, no one held back. I doubt he could see any of them when he looked up. We did fashion two very presentable chances but both Pugh and Wells could only direct their efforts straight at their keeper. Once Chair went off we may as well have all packed up and gone home as he was the only real threat we had.
Leistner played well, but was suckered into giving them a penalty. He was exposed for pace for their second, but the responsibility lies with Barbet (who gave the ball away) and Ball (we'd switched to 3 at the back by then as we did succesfully last Saturday) who made no effort to get back and cover.
It was a match neither side deserved to win.

Thought FFP was supposed to stop this ? A club that size that was paying weekly wages of upto 6 k per week on certain players . FFP works differently in League 1 and 2 Harr. In League 1 the only stipulation is that the players' wages do not exceed 60% of the club's revenue, so all the time that the then owner, Stewart Day, was prepared to keep topping up the income, they were within the regulations. From the moment that he got fed up doing so and sold the club for £1 the writing was on the wall. The current owner, Steve Dale, is getting a lot of stick, but it was the previous one whose ambition put them into an untenable position.

Both Bolton and Bury have come a cropper chasing the big money. Phil Gartside and Stewart Day made no attempt to live within their means and this is the result.
I feel desperately sorry for the clubs' supporters and all the owners and staff of small local businesses who have already gone under, or are struggling like hell not to, as a result of their mismanagement.
I doubt it will end here.

A game of two halves may be a cliché, but it was never truer than today. In the first half Rangers were dismal which was such a disappointment after Wednesday’s great display. They couldn’t string two passes together, showed no appetite for the match and collectively fell asleep to allow Wigan to steal a goal. A change of formation and the removal of Scowen had the desired effect after the break. Poor Josh is going to become a casualty to Warburton’s revolution at QPR as he doesn’t have enough in his game to warrant a place in the team or even on the bench. It is a shame for a player who looked so good for us alongside Luongo and just behind Freeman in Holloway’s team, but he simply does not warrant a place in the team anymore.
There was so much to enjoy in the second half that I can’t begin to document it all, so I’ll restrict myself to a couple of points. Eze has added both consistency and simplicity to his game. He rarely over-plays any situation these days and is far better for it. While he doesn’t look quick, once he is in front of a player they can’t get back to tackle him, his decision making has improved immeasurably and his tracking back is far better than anyone could expect from a player with his talent.
The other is Ilias Chair. What a stunning footballer he is. His non stop movement is a joy to watch, his use of the ball, appreciation of space and vision is fabulous. I’ve been waiting for a player to take Ale Faurlin’s place in my heart, and here he is. He deserves to play in the Premier League, I can only hope it is with us.
Perhaps the biggest plus point today was that Warburton, in a total contradiction to common belief, does have a plan B. At half time we swapped from his preferred 4-2-3-1 to a 3-5-2 formation which produced the result for us. So much for performing plan A better.

So we've found a new way to concede a goal from nowhere! I feel sorry for Lumley, I'm not sure what he was supposed to do. He couldn't catch the ball directly from the throw-in and it reached him at the height of its bounce. Not too clever.

The QPR website says for an undisclosed fee too. Assuming that we haven't paid them to take him, that is an unexpected bonus. But the window has shut? Not for League One and Two clubs and many European countries. Theirs stays open until a variety of dates around the end of the month.

I'm going to be near Gloucester for the weekend. If I'd have thought about this in advance I could have made the match. I'm not sure my wife would have been too happy though.
Enjoy the match Nomar. I hope Chair gets on the pitch for you to enjoy, he is fabulous to watch.

So Goss has gone to Shrewsbury which I think is best for all concerned. According to BBC we actually got a fee (undisclosed of course) for him which is even better news if true. Every little helps as they say. The QPR website says for an undisclosed fee too. Assuming that we haven't paid them to take him, that is an unexpected bonus.

It would be good for Hamalainen to get a loan move to the Scottish Premier League. Like Oteh, he must be running out of time to prove himself at QPR.
Goss is a funny one. I can only recall seeing him once (if I ignore the time he almost ran me over at Harlington). He came on as a centre back against Bournemouth in the Stan Bowles match and looked pretty comfortable. He clearly can play football, hopefully he takes his chance at Shrewsbury.

Terry made a couple of pertinent comments to me during the match yesterday. The first being that every player clearly understood their role. The team maintained their shape well, the full backs were pushed high up in possession, Cameron didn't leave the central defenders unguarded and Hugill dragged defenders around to stop them settling into their positions. The second comment was that everyone wanted the ball which is such a change from last season when they couldn't wait to get rid of it. We moved the ball quickly when it warranted it and always seemed to have someone to pass to. I lost track of the number of cross field diagonals to our full backs - Kane, in particular, looked like he was going to thrive on those passes and made a couple of really inviting crosses from our right flank. The slick passing moves did turn over possession too often for Warburton's comfort, but we are only two matches into the season, that will happen less frequently as the players skills get honed. Huddersfield were quick to pounce on those turn overs which proved to be their most threatening means of attack.
I expect wholesale changes for Tuesday night and, if Smith is fit and plays the full 90 minutes, would expect him to play next Saturday alongside Cameron. This would them allow Amos, who I thought had a quiet match, to play further up field where, I think, he is better suited. Eze and BOS had their usual mix of hot and cold, but Chair really brought our attack to life. He was busy, inventive and a real handful for their defence. He conjured a shot out of nowhere forcing a decent save out of their keeper and threw the whole of their defence off guard by stepping over a pass to allow Kane to break free. He is fabulous to watch, I'm really looking forward to seeing how he develops this season.

I suspect we will line up in a 4-1-4-1 formation with Cameron shielding the defence.

Lumley
Rangel - Hall - Barbet - Manning
Ball - Smith
Eze - Amos - Pugh
Hugill
If he is fit enough, Kane for Rangel
If Smith isn't fit enough, Amos to drop back and Scowen to take his place
If Pugh isn't fit enough, Osayi-Samuel, although I'd pick Shodipo

I sent along to yesterday’s match without any great expectations. I sat in the Lower Loft with some people that I regularly travel part of the way home with, but too low down to get a good perspective of the team’s formation. I suspect it was a 4-2-3-1, but if anyone suggested 4-3-3 I wouldn’t argue. It looked to be Smith and Ball in the defensive midfield positions and Amos playing between BOS and Eze, although there was a fair amount of interchange between the three of them.
I was impressed by Ball who was playing alongside Smith in the defensive two. He showed a lot of composure, a wide range of passing and was completely at home at the team’s fulcrum. Barbet was also very composed and, apart from one “Lynch” moment of defensive madness due to being pressed when playing out from the back, looked to be developing a good partnership with Hall.
I barely noticed Mlakar in the first half but that may have been because there was a forest of players between us and him. BOS continued where he left off last season with lots of threat but little end product. I’ve seen elsewhere that others nominated Eze as their man of the match, but I’m not sure why, but perhaps his better work was also obscured from my position.
Smith and Amos showed good energy until Smith’s lack of matches took its toll, but it took the introduction of a couple of substitutes to liven up proceedings. Shodipo was very direct and caused their fullback no end of problems, while Chair was so dynamic and positive. Watford wouldn’t be wanting to play against the pair of them every week.
As a group they seem to have taken to Warburton’s methods very well and show more off the ball movement than we’ve managed for a number of seasons. Hopefully Pugh or Hugill will be able to add some goals as well and we could end up higher up the table than many expect. I’m still think that our squad is too big and am very concerned that some of the players we need to be developing are not going to get enough match time, we need to be focusing on the future of the club not just the here and now.

It does seem a strange position for us to sign someone else. I can only conclude that one of our "senior" 'keepers will be on the move. Indeed, I find it strange that Lumley has played in all three pre season matches & Kelly has not appeared (unless I've missed something!). Have we placed Joe in the shop window? I like Furlong, preferably at centre half, but I wasn't convinced that he would be a regular this season. If that was the case this is a fee that we can't afford to miss out on. I get the impression that we've not seen the end of movements in & out yet! Are we changing too much? if your of the opinion that we will face relegation this season, then obviously the answer is no. As someone who didn't think we would have relegation problems it may appear so. However, it doesn't feel that way to me. I can't explain why it doesn't but perhaps a near clearout was necessary. Anyhow, I look forward to seeing how we look at Stoke! Kelly played the second half in Austria and the first half against Borehamwood. I expect to see Kelly on Saturday. You've said before that you wouldn't be surprised if Lumley left before the season started, that does look even more likely now.

And he's gone to Hull for the season .. www.hulldailymail.co.uk/sport/football/everton-josh-bowler-hull-city-3107078Hull City snap up Everton rookie Josh Bowler on a season-long loan dealHull City have completed a season-long loan deal to sign rookie winger Josh Bowler from Everton. The 20-year-old becomes the latest addition to Grant McCann’s squad after he was granted permission to spend the next 10 months at the KCOM Stadium. Bowler has trained with his new team-mates today and is expected to feature when City travel to face Mansfield Town in their latest friendly on Saturday. "I’m very excited to be here because it’s a massive club," Bowler told the club's website. “As soon as I heard of Hull’s interest, I wanted to get the move through. "It’s taken a bit of time but I’m just thankful to be here now and raring to go ahead of the forthcoming season.” The Toffees are keen to see Bowler develop in the Championship and a move to City, sanctioned by former boss Marco Siva, will give the youngster chance to progress. Bowler has only ever played 21 minutes in the Championship when making his senior debut for QPR on the final day of the 2016-17 season. A move to Everton followed that summer for an initial fee of £1.5m that could eventually rise to £4.25m. Bowler has yet to feature in the Premier League but played three games for Everton’s under-23s in the Checkatrade Trophy last season. Everton's faith in Bowler has been reflected by a one-year contract extension signed ahead of joining City. “It was a big move for me to come to Everton and I have always thought it was the right one,” Bowler told evertonfc.com. “This contract validates that belief and is an important step for me. My game has evolved in the past two years. I have grown wiser in my playing style and started to contribute more goals and assists, which is vital in my position. "Wherever I am, I will play my heart out and try to impress as many people as possible.”

Weren’t Forest interested, they seem to want to keep buying every man and his dog. If he is going on the cheap might as well keep him until next summer. That would depend on whether we've already allocated his wages elsewhere. However, should he stay for the season and then leave on a free transfer next summer the club will get slaughtered in certain circles for allowing that to happen.

Oh I don't disagree with that being what he wanted early on, but I just mean that it was my assumption that we didn't take the plunge on all 3 until things had gone so wrong. For all I know, they were part of the plan and that was the only window of opportunity to nab them. But my guess was that it was only after the horrendous start that we relented on what he wanted - that we had said no, make do with what we've got, and then we caved in. Bearing in mind that from the time Dave Mac reported that, to when we actually brought in Wells and Hemed, we'd lost 3 and conceded 12 goals in the league - which is likely to induce panic. I mean, that two weeks caused a meltdown all-round. Merely me speculating though. Speculation is all most of us have got. If you recall, Ferdinand talked about the timing of the loans at the Fans Forum. He said that earlier in the transfer window the players' parent clubs were after loan fees which were out of our reach. As the window was drawing to a close and those clubs were faced with the prospect of paying all of their wages the loan fees disappeared and wage demands became more acceptable. This could of course be regarded as building a narrative to suit how he wanted to events to be viewed, but it does fit in with my knowledge of the situation. That doesn't make it stone wall, but it makes most sense to me.
