The first half was a very good display. We allowed them to come back into the game in the second half but we never looked as if we would concede.
The catch by Smithies from that corner said all that was needed about goalkeepers! The Leeds centre backs were already looking bewildered at the lack of talking from Green & the quality of his kicking!
Several excellent individual performances but Luongo was outstanding.
Overall, I'm rather plaesed with my team tonight!

Defence looks solid and I include keepers .. A huge fella who's movement , goals and all round play improves game by game and a midfield with youth attacking nous! ... I'm starting to feel rather optimistic ... I do this every year , please post saying how stupid I'm being! Please .. Experience , that's it ... Youth .. No experience we're doomed I tell ya doomed It's rather frightening gladstone! AS a man of my experience, I should know better rthan to allow my level of hope to be raised! What I am sure of though is that as a club, Queens Park Rangers are now making rapid improvements. That is a rather nice! QWelcome Yeni

CHAMPIONSHIP Winners: Sheffield Wednesday Runners Up: Norwich Playoffs: Derby, Leeds, Newcastle, Queens Park Rangers. Winner PO Queens Park Rangers (this is based on hope, but also on lack of believe in other sides being good!) Relegated: Burton, Blackburn, Reading
PREMIER LEAGUE Title Winners Manchester City Other Top 4: Arsenal, Chelsea , Liverpool Relegated:, Hull , Crystal Palace, Watford
I have failed to believe this concenus on Newcastle being champions by a mile. I know last night does not make their season, but they didn't half look poor! Fulham played the better football & it will take a lot to convince me that players like Clarke, Hayden & Gayle are as good as Lynch, Cousins & Chery!

He just frustrates the crap out of me. Comes good when it is contract negotiation time then goes into a highates. ....and made a legendary pass a few years ago at Wembley! Yes, he passed straight to the Derby captain! Obviously, Junior knew better than anyone else he was the playerr to pick out!

It isn't just how many acres/% that are owned by Car Giant. Or how many acres are needed to build a new stadium.
A new stadium will only be possible in certain areas of the site. It may also be that those areas are the prime site for other establishments - eg, shopping centre, train station, industrial park, hotel, etc. I would think that they would want a stadium away from the more expensive housing as well.
I don't know, but it may be that car Giant own the majority of the land that we would require to build a stadium.

And what is wrong with anorther season fo consolidation providing we move forward?
Personally, I feel that the price being demanded for the likes of Pritchard & McCormack are breathtaking & make Pogba look an absolute bargain. I'm more than happy to let the likes of Newcastle, Norwich & Wolves (possibly chuck in Derby & Brighton) overspend. We know what the outcome will probably be!
What is wrong with placing a value on what a player is worth to us & refusing to go any higher? How much better off we would be as a club if we had adhered to that principle five years ago!
The cash we have received on transfers in the past two years has all gone. Gone om wages. Any incoming players are all down to TF etc. still providing the funds.
Is that a problem? Not for me it isn't. Ipswich fans would love to have spent the same amount on transfers as we have. I expect our wages (for the non Premier elite) are still higher than theirs as well. Not that I object to the Ipswich maximum of £5k per week. I just hope that Joel Lynch will prove himself to be a better signing than a free Tommy Smith on £6k would have been!

Hard to know where to start really, there were so many positives. The new fitness coach has clearly been working the team hard, I can’t recall seeing a QPR team looking in such good condition. Obviously this is a vital component in JFH’s pressing game, I’m glad to say that no one was found wanting. The formation looked pretty fluid. At times the two wide men were pushed right up, at other times Gladwin dropped back and Chery slipped seamlessly between attack and midfield. I’ve not been as confident in a QPR keeper as I am in Smithies since Paddy Kenny’s first season. He may not have had much to do, but he did it confidently, without fuss and never looked in any danger of being beaten. As with all of the new recruits, Bidwell was impressive. He was constantly organising our defence, and timed his forays forwards well so as not to expose his defensive colleagues; I’d give him the captain’s armband now. Hall and Caulker were solid, but Lynch looked a cut above when he came on. If he is fit enough, I’d start him ahead of Caulker next weekend. He never looked remotely like losing a header or tackle. Watford very quickly worked out that right back was our week area and they focused their attacks down their left wing. Onuoha did not disgrace himself, but there is no way that he is a right back. I sincerely hope that the indicators that we have one expected in are true. Luongo and Cousins ran the midfield. I’ve always liked Luongo and think he was badly treated last season. While I still think he is better suited to playing further forwards, he tackled well, played the right pass, continually made himself available to receive the ball and was always looking for the killer pass. I’d like to see more of Cousins before really commenting, but the same was true of him too. I still have to be convinced by either Gladwin or Shodipo, but I think that goes with the territory. Gladwin fought hard and made a good number of tackles. He blazed his best chance well over, but did fashion the opportunity himself. Young Shodipo provided the best cross of the match (from Which Polter looped a header against the bar), but seemed to lack the confidence to attack even though he clearly had the beating of the Watford full back. When El Khayati came on, he didn’t show the weaknesses that he was accused of last season, he does still fall into the “yet to be convinced by” category though. Polter looked outstanding, he thoroughly deserved his goal. His use of the ball was top class; he is a great team player. Chery is a worthy heir to our number 10 shirt, I have high expectations for him this season. Washington’s goal could be the most important event during the pre-season, outside of that he seemed happy to chase is own flicked headers, his work ethic is peerless. It is easy to get carried away after a good performance, but this was incredibly encouraging especially after all the doom and gloom from our previous friendlies, but I think it is safe to say the JFH is getting his ideas through to the team. Thank you Roller. It was good to read your comments about Lynch. On the stream (that went down shortly after his arrival) he was the one player that Iwsn't able to form any impression on. I felt that Gladwin worked extremely hard, but his ball retention, control were lacking (to say the least. He also looked limited in his defending when near our own penalty area. HOWEVER, it may be his closing down of opponents earns him a place against Leeds. Personally, I would prefer Washington in that role & I'm sure he would press the opposition just as well. The only questions for the team next week (injuries/illness permitting) are at right back, who partners Hall & the two wide midfield players. The other seven form a good backbone. Hope we haven't peaked before we play our first game!

I also watched it on television.
As a 14 year old I considered taking the met to Wembley Park & buying a ticket from a tout, but decided the risk of not seeing the match were too great!
I was there for the semi final though.

I think Chris was my favourite player in the Holloway management era.
I will never forget his save at the end of the Oldham play off match or his performance at Cardiff.
Happy Birthday Chrtis.

Good to hear from you CPR.
Are you still living in Walton? I've heard rumours that Stompond Lane (if that is correct name) is likely to be ending as a football ground.
Watching a little of bit of Tour De France this week reminds me of your report of the road race at the 2012 Olympics & how they unthinkingly made you leave the pub to watch the riders flash past you!

I would love to be able to see anything from that Ipswich game! Like thousands of others, I was unable to get a ticket for the game & had great evny for my brother & TexasRanger who were there to celebrate Mick's equaliser!
This was the year before LWT took over from Thames & changed the televising of football. You only saw the highlights of the game in your area, with no co-operation between the broadcasting companies. From memory, Thames seemed to enjoy lots of visits to the banks of the river!
Anglia television covered an area stretching from Hull to Southend at that time & had no clubs in Division One. Looking at that list of games Mac, they covered all of our visits to their region that season!

About time too. There will be a few high-profile red cards and then players and managers will start getting in line. We don't need any bullsh*t justification of the foul language and abuse because it is a "man's game". Rugby has not let on pitch behaviour deteriorate like football has I am glad the referees have a clear mandate to start sanctioning players and managers. New rules on behaviourCan now be sent off for abuse as well as blatantfowls! You could always be sent off for abuse. In fact, by the laws, you SHOULD have been sent off for abuse! I doubt many ref's will have the courage to enforce though! I would like to see caution's being given for players making frivolous appeals for throw in's, goal kicks/corners etc. The amount of times a player knocks the ball off the pitch & then asks for the decision is maddening!

I've no problems with that Roller. He would get to stay in the city that he loves AND we could invite him to join us for a pre match drink when Fulham are not playing. Especially now your in contact with his mother! He is always on the losing side in a Rangers - Fulham match as well! Hope it works out for you Ale.

RIP John.
I think he was at his best at Ipswich where he scored the goals that gained promotion in '68, but I was more than happy with our signing of Frank Clarke. Funny how they then replaced each other at Rangers & Ipswich!

A 1-0 win with a Seb Polter penalty. Most of the second half we were defending, but in the main we didn't look in trouble until the last five minutes. Matt Ingram was very good in goal, but the good news with 'keepers is that Alec Smithies has now returned to full training. I don't think we will be concedeing as many this season! I liked what I saw of our new Pole. I will have to learn his name! Did the other new boys play Terry? Only Bidwell with Shapido stepping up from our youth. The back four played very well & Perch, along with Ingram, was possibly our best player. I have a feeling that he may have an outstanding season for us. Luongo & our Pole formed a partnership in the middle that looked as though we could develop to something solid. Indeed, any problems we had only came about when Doughty replaced the Pole & Bidwell went off. This is not aimed at Doughty, who performed reasonably well (apart from once being turned inside out), but more to do with Luongo dropping deeper & we conceded space to PSV. Gladwin had a heavy touch, but he worked hard & won more tackles in one friendly than Phillips won all last season! Shapido is certainly worth trying again. Not an awe inspiring performance, but we played with a game plan(when did we last do that?) & stuck to uit for the ninety minutes. We will be very good defensively this season, but we may struggle to score too many goals! Unless I go to the Watford game, this will be my only glimpse of us pre-season.

Anything other than challenging for the play offs would be poor IMO , couldn't bear another non season like last year The vast majority of seasons have been just like last year! I might be wrong, but I would think we finished higher than any aseason at this level since the mid '90's until 2010. Certainly higher than most of those campaigns!

For me this squad is better than any we had in the Championship prior to the arrival of Warnock. Did you expect relegation every season in those days?
It will be a few goals short of a prmotion push, but will concede less than a side with any survivsl problems. As things stand it looks like a lower top half season to me.
I can live with that!
