Willock and Adomah looking very close as incoming signings. Are we after any more? A few reports today that West Ham are after Manning for £5m. Don't want to see Manning go, but if he doesn't want to be here and we can get £5m for him, then get rid. Also a bizarre rumour - Balotelli to Watford(!). Currently playing in Serie-B in Italy and Watford owners have Italian connections. Sounds like the kind of bonkers signing we might have made a few years back... I know this is the media talking & not ashdownI but I don't understand this Manning to West Ham talk & ehy would they offer that amount when they could be able to get him for £1 million. Have they made an offer at any time durting the summer? Manning would have no chance of replacing Cresswell in their team & they have just pauid £5 million for a right back. They've also just beaten Wolves & leicester by a combined 7-0 scoreline. I think they are OK as they are!

Terry, I think Cameron is a liability based on what I saw in the Coventry game. I'm biased about him. I never thought he could play before he joined us & I've not seen anything since to change my mind!

I only saw the second half yesterday, but I couldn't see either side scoring until the Wednesday goal. Other than that Dieng made one save & we were lax for the Luongo chance, but we didn't look to bad defensively.
Yes, 'boro had a couple of chances that they missed, but in the two games since we changed the 'keeper I think we have looked far more relaxed & secure at the back. I also feel that we have looked better when Ball enters the pitch, surprisingly in an attacking manner! It is a matter of personal opinion, but I would like to see Ball partner Carroll in front of the defence. Others will disagree, but Cameron would never make the bench in my selection!
I'm also of the view that we will score as many goals as most clubs in the division, but the midfield balance isn't quite there at the moment.
As far as the overall season goes, I'm very confident that we will not be in trouble & think there is a reasonable chance that we will finish in the top half. I doubt that we will play as entertainingly or as well as last season, but we won't concede anywhere near as many goals as then. I can also name at least tweelve clubs that I think are worse than we are!

WLS reporting that Bournemouth have made an approach for BOS. Personally, I think that would be a sideways move, I don't rate the Cherries as one of the favourites for promotion. Mind you, they could offer a big hike in wages. Would be disappointing to see him go to another Championship side - hope the reports of him being close to signing a new deal with us are true... You might be right ashdown, but I think Bournemouth are the best team in the division! I'm convinced that they will finish higher than the other promoted clubs providing they don't lose many more players before the window closes. If BOS wants to play in the Premier, Bournemouth could very well be his best option to achieve that. I fail to envisage any Premier club making a bid for him in this window.

From memory, Wallace was man marking him & Kakay was stationed as our first defender.
This isn't meant as an excuse for our corner defending, but if an atteacker times his run correctly to the near post it is very hard to stop him. Certainly for man to man marking. With zonasl you have to hope that someone can block the run.
*Whatever system you use there are always more defenders in the penalty area than attackers so it is a question of placing them in the correct positions. Personally, I would have a man on at least one post & probably both, but this might be because I was useless in the air so the post was my position!
* Leaving BOS upfront we have ten players, including the 'keeper, in the area whilst the opposition would have a maximum of seven players. Their 'keeper, the corner taker & two defenders outside for minimum. In reality they would probably have six in the area with another player stationed just outside to gather clearances. Therefore you could have six man to man, two on the posts & two floating or six man to man & four zonal.
Leave two players upfront & you will reduce how many attackers are in the area.

Every day I go for a walk of about 60 minutes. Sundays route takes me through sports playing fields that for the rest of the week are deserted. For the last 2 Sundays there has been 4 games in progress covering various ages. The games run end to end throughout the day. But for each set of games, there must be about 250 supporters / parents, not counting the players and officials. The car park overflows to the local roads. My point though is that absolutely no-one in the park was observing social distancing. They were all getting carried away shouting, cheering just the same as pre-Covid. They all stood in close clusters, the coaches were all huddled together. I offer no commentary on the wisdom of all this, but it struck me that teams in the lower leagues may well go to the wall when they could offer a far more disciplined environment than what I have witnessed locally in parks. As someone who is still bloody shielding and bored stiff, Clive's report struck a chord this morning and prompted this posting Some clubs could be financially better off this season than they are most seasons. Not that they shouldn't take advantage of the situation! I'm on about the non-league clubs that are still allowed to host crowds, especially at Isthmian & Southern League levels. Unless the government change their minds (certainly a possibility), clubs could continue to attract close to the maximum that they are being allowed. As an example, Chesham United normally have regular crowds of between 300-400, but can currently hold *20% of the capacity - 600. It will surprise me if they don't average over 500 until the professional game returns to having crowds. Ironically, Chesham would have beem promoted to the National League South if PPG had been used for last seson instead of abandonment. That would have led to being in a league that has yet to start & is not allowed crowds! Of clubbs closer to Shepherds Busdh,Hayes & Hendon should benefit, but Wealdstone will suffer greatly. * I'm not 100% certain, but I believe 20% of capacity is what is allowable.

If they sign up Chris Hughton they'll almost certainly be promoted. Or if they sign up Mark Hughes they'll be checking routes to Accrington, Rochdale and Plymouth next season... Yeah, I am not a hire 'em and fire 'em believer, but with all that talent available, questions have to be asked of the manager and coaches. They cannot buy a goal, so i think Sabri Lamouchi will be gone by Monday. Hughton would turn it around. Their worst start to a season for 66 years. I doubt that Hughton would turn it around. They have a team full of players that don't care & appear to only be interested in their bank accounts.

Tha same rule has been applied to the FA Cup this season. it must be in double figures the number of teams in the qwualifying rounds that have had to withdraw.
I can't see how any other action could have been taken. It will be intersting to see how the EFL react to Orient and Grimsby having today's league matches postponed due to Covid.

Matt Connolly won Championship winners medals in three sucessive seasons (unless my memory is failing me!).
I would have thought that he would be a good signing for Charlton.
So will Washington be. He may miss a fair few chances but his workrate will be tremendous.
Ben Watson must be willing to take a massive pay cut if he was to join though. Full marks to him if he is prepared to do so.

I know goalies develop late. But he's 25 and has yet to play for QPR. So while he might be better than Lumley et al.... Think Shilton, Springett, Parkes et al It that the Ron Springett who was hopeless when he returned to Queens Park Rangers? Or Peter Springett who was an average club goalkeeper (though probably better than our current custodians), but not in the same league as Seaman? It really is a very unfair comparison. None of our 'keepers have played in the top division but you are mentioning them in the same breath as two of England's finest. Are you going to compare Masterson to Moore or Dykes to Hurst?

Nothing that I would regard as Eze magic, but he looked very comfortable playing at that level & was full of confidence.
Palace played very well & Eze will be a sucess.

"Judge has said if Alkadhi pays monies owed then the winding up order can be rescinded."
I've copied this from the non league forum that I visit.
I have no wish or desire to defend the wages of footballers, actors, businessmen etc, but they have nothing to do with the winding up of Macclesfield Town. That is purely due to the owner not paying HMRC & many was the time he didn't pay club employees (including players).
Macclesfield almost certainly wouldn't have been saved if another club/player/organisation had paid HMRC on their behalf. Like Bury, when an owner has no inclination to relinquish control of the club or settle any debts, there is only one final outcome. It is just a matter of when & not if they will be wound up.
It is a very sad day though when the first winners of the FA Trophy & the first winners of the Alliance Premier/National League/Conference etc go out of business.

Can't work this one out anymore after Saturday. BOS who apparently has been a model trainer played - maybe he is about to sign an extension, maybe he realises he has to be playing and play well to attract bids Manning (who apparently has been a model in training as well) didn't play because of a contract dispute (official club comment). Is it because his new agent has not spoken to the club, is he close to a move is he playing silly whatsits .Who knows. Either way I think we need to sign a left back. Wallace will not last teh season without injury unless we are very lucky, I do not rate Manning as a full back and doubt he is going to stay anyway - or if he does he will nor be playing. Re Bos - in theory we have players to replace him if he goes but I do not think we are in a position to sign anyone other than one or two frees unless he goes. Whatever - the season has started so this really should all have been sorted by now - their initial contracts ran out end of June - but potentially we have another 3 weeks of the will they won't they saga Don't worry about it 75. Let Warburton select whatever side he wants. I trust his selections more than I have any manager for decades. If either/both sign a new contract - great. If they don't - goodbye.

I liked Highfield Road although the view was not great from the upper level behind the goal. Never jumped up so may times in a game to see what was happening in the goalmouth below. - anyway I think we are playing them at Brum on Friday aren't we? Still homeless after all these years - could turn that into a song (over 55's will understand) I think you would be surprised how many under that age are Paul Simon fans! I saw him at Wembley in 2006 expecting to be one of the youngest in the crowd, only to find I was about the oldest! It was full of 20 year olds who knew the words of every song. Anyway, back to Coventry. Hopefully they will play their full team at Gillingham tomorrow night!

I was there.
Ian Watson looked reasonable in goal after replacing an injured Mike Kelly.
My abiding memory is of a group of Rangers fans behind us singing
"They've taken our flags & our banners They've even taken our spanners But we'll travel along Singing our song Side by side"
The pompey crowd also didn't like us very much!
I'm almost sure the next game was a midweek win at Blackburn 1-0 with Alan Spratley being attacked by someone from the crowd.

I was very relaxed while playing Bridge & had to delay a hand to weatch Dykes take his penalty. Rather different style to Eze!
Then I started watchimng & it was mainly Forest with the ball. Relaxed? Not a chance!
What a great start to the season & a the first clean sheet of a record breaking season of not concedeing!
COME ON MY TEAM!

Stating the obvious but god it all feels weird today. Excited we are back, not excited in that it's just sitting in front of a stream. And so many factors with both sides, all the new faces and permutations, mean I havn't got a clue how it'll turn out. One minute I feel like we'll get pumped, another I think we'll edge it, another it feels like a tetchy draw that will settle both sides. All just very surreal innit. I know exactly what you mean bow. I will have the stream on, but i won't watch the first half as I've decided that i should continue playing Bridge for a couple of hours on a Saturday afternoon until i can go back to LR. Mind you, any defeat will hurt just as much as it always has!

This should divide a few www.westlondonsport.com/qpr/qpr-make-decision-on-tom-carroll?utm_campaign=shareaholic&utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=socialnetworkQPR decide they want to sign Carroll By West London Sport 04/09/2020 Tom Carroll, QPR QPR have decided they want to sign Tom Carroll. The midfielder, who spent the 2013-14 season on loan at Loftus Road from Tottenham, has been training with the R’s. Carroll, 28, is a free agent, having recently been released by Swansea City. He featured for Rangers in a pre-season friendly against Arsenal this week. And the club have decided to offer him a contract. His move would have to be registered with the EFL by midday in order for him to be available for Saturday’s Carabao Cup tie at Plymouth. Firstly, he would need international clearance, but that should be virtually automatic. I know I'm one of the few, but I didn't mind Carroll when he was at Rangers & given a choice between Tom or Cameron it is a no brainer. Tom every match! I appreciate that we will be on the small size defending set pieces, but we lost more than our fair share of them with Hall, Leistner, Barbet, Ball, Cameron & hugill on the pitch!

I can't see anything wrong in playing somebody who is in the final year of their contract & not signing an extension providing they give total effort on the pitch.
What is the difference to being in the final year & the club not offering an extension? Should the player just go through the motions as he is unaware of what the future holds?

I have no idea if either/neither/both are true, but I've read that although West Brom have made the highest bid, Palace have been the first choice for Eze throughout the summer.
Will the club take his wishes into consideration, or will they go for the highest bidder? Eze, of course, could turn down a move to WBA (or any other club for that matter) if he didn't wish to join them & stay at the club!
