Just wanted your opinion on a few of the rumours concerning our respective clubs. We seem to be the go to club for ex Rangers players possibly due to Steve Gallen's influence. Over the last few years we have had Josh Parker and loanees Tomer Hemed and Matt Smith.
There are strong rumours that you are in for Macauley Bonne. He is a good striker but not the finished article. I also hear that if Josh Cullen goes on loan from West Ham again that you are in a good position. He seems to only feature in Cups for them at the moment.
We have signed Conor Washington and he has netted two in two. We also have Joel Lynch and Ben Watson training with us waiting for the embargo to lift. If that is not enough there are internet rumours about Matt Connelly.
What would your views be on them?

Hi, I think that Macauley Bonne would be the back up striker at QPR and so it may be hard to agree a valuation. How much do you think Charlton would settle for? We have apparently had2 bids rejected. Josh Cullen would be useful if West Ham let him go. But of the QPR players that you have taken, my view would be: Parker – did not figure on the radar Hamed – lazy and unpopular – a very poor signing for QPR, albeit only a loan. Smith – struggled with injury but seemed a little lightweight for the Championship Watson – mostly remembered for how he bottled his final games for QPR to protect his next transfer, but has done well at Forest. Washington – I would love him to do well at Charlton, he tried and tried but it just would not happen for him at QPR. The abuse he received from some saw his head drop and so he needed to start again elsewhere. Did well for Peterborough, so maybe that is his level. But he represented a big investment in a lower league player and that has tarnished that strategy for many at QPR. Lynch- plans his red cards to coincide with his holidays and does not work Christmases! He had a very high opinion of his ability that was not shared by many. Matt Connolly was ok, and quite popular. Filled in at right back and centre half. He should do well for you.

That seems a fair summary. Maybe a tad harsh on Smith. Most of his games were as a sub and he bailed us out of jail quite a few times, I was a bit gutted he went, probably the most from that list.

Reckon you're remembering huge Matt Smith who ended up at Millwall, not little Matt Smith . Agree on the above. I liked Matt Connolly. Remember he had a bit of a weird patch where he kept letting the ball bounce. But had a good pass on him and should do a good job there.

I thought Big Matt had left Millwall and was going over to Charlton. Matt Smith little one, that’s a very fair assessment. I shouldn’t get my Smiths mixed up Ricky, apologies. 😁

Matt Connolly won Championship winners medals in three sucessive seasons (unless my memory is failing me!).
I would have thought that he would be a good signing for Charlton.
So will Washington be. He may miss a fair few chances but his workrate will be tremendous.
Ben Watson must be willing to take a massive pay cut if he was to join though. Full marks to him if he is prepared to do so.

Thanks for the opinions guys
Off topic but Cullen has just been tested positive for Covid. Last week our striker Chuks Aneke played against them and he has also had a positive test. What this means for the season I don't know. With the Orient cancellation maybe this season will get wipped?
I suspect we would take around £2 Mill for Bonne. With our embargo it is complicated as we are not allowed to bring players in.
Watson lives in Beckenham which is why I suspect he wants to join us for family reasons. Having played in the Premiership most of his career he has had many pay days I suspect he is putting family first.
Lynch is training with us but Connelly is just a rumour atm. Washington has started well maybe he is a good L1 player.
I just hope we can get the embargo lifted.

Watson signed today. Lynch has another offer apparently
Good to get our takeover done.

I see today that you are back in for Bonne and the feeling is that we would probably sell at the right price
We are ( allegedly) close to signing a Danish Striker to coincide with our new Danish owner and possibly getting an unknown youngster from the Prem. This might mean Macauley becomes available.
I also see that you are in for Andre Green. He started well for us but didn't play much after lockdown due to his arthritic toe. Probably worth a punt in my view.

I’m not sure we are after Bonne now, he may be back up if we don’t get Liam Miller from Liverpool, and there’s many clubs after Miller so perhaps we will be back. I guess it’s about money if we offered half a million but you wanted 1.5, there’s no way I could see it happening at the minute unless the price is nearer to what we offered. Most Charlton fans can’t wait to get rid of Bonne, didn’t he score 11-13 goals in a pretty poor relegation team, to me that’s not really a bad return as the comments he is getting on social media saying get rid, dreadful. I would have thought Bonne was a dream player compared to say Hemed.

Looks like Bonne is on his way to you
Honest opinion. He did well last year and I will be sad to see him go.
He thrived when Gallagher was running our midfield and Johnny Williams was in form early season. As the injuries piled up his form suffered

I've read various 'reports' that Bonne's signed for anywhere between £700,000 and £2m? Wonder if the real figure will be disclosed by either party...?

ITK QPR Sources and to be fair they have been pretty spot on for weeks suggested less than a Million initially. The near 2 Million by the SLP reporter probably included everything possible 200 appearances, 100 goals and Premiership football etc etc. In fairness to Charlton if it was around a million now they made 800K but have to give around 20% or 160K to Orient but still cleared half a million on a player in just over a year so still decent for all clubs. I know Clubs do slate players but a little shocked with some of the Charlton fans on their comments to Bonne and how crap he is. I’ve spent quite a few seasons over the last two decades watching Charlton as my last next door neighbour was a Charlton fan so went a few times a season (When I could)where we sat in with other season tickets holders there were always a nice bunch of supporters. I guess most of the people slating Bonne are the usual club keyboard warriors, all clubs have them.

The South London Press is normally quite reliable for Charlton stories . Rich Cawley from the SLP is an old fashioned journalist and does not go to print unless he knows his facts .
We do not need to sell now Sandgaard has taken control and Bonne still had two years to go on his contract . . It seems that Bowyer has a better list to go for now . We signed a young left sided defender from Norwich Akin Fanewo which is why I suspect Lynch won't pitch up at the Valley now . Although never say never .
I see Cullen is back on your radar . If you got him I would give a 100% reference . He is an excellent player.

According to West London Sport Charlton are in for Paul Smyth again
I also see that you have a centre back Conor Masterson available. We are desperate for a CB. If we went for him hopefully he would be as good as the last young Irish CB we had from you.... Alan McDonald.
I wonder whether the Bonne deal might have given Charlton some sort of leverage re loanees from you given the wage cap restrictions in L1.

Smyth is in his last year of contract so I suspect QPR would prefer a sale. Most QPR fans will be disappointed to see him leave as he has never really had a decent chance at QPR. He has dropped down the list after our recent signings. Masterson is another who most will be sorry to see depart, even on loan. He has looked very good and is one for the future. I think I would rather see him start ahead of Barbet. But I understand the need fo0r game time if they are not first choice. They both would be good signings for Charlton IMHO.

Smyth - would be sad to see him go, felt he's never been given a decent run. Still, if MW can't fit him into the side, then he needs/deserves regular playing time and a settled club. Masterson - surprised he's being talked about as going out on loan, considering how well he's come on. Maybe to January and see how things are then. Charlton having 'leverage' because of Bonne!? Doesn't look like you did us any massive favours, playing hardball over the price! So, you can have Smyth for £3m and Masterson for a £1m loan fee...

What is he like?

Very enthusiastic.
I personally don't rate him as much as many of our supporters. If you were present when he made his debut you seem to have a higher opinion than those of us that gave the FA Cup a miss that day!
He spent most of last season in the injury room or on the bench at W****** (sorry, I'm not allowed to call them by name!) & the previous season at Accrington.
He badly needs this loan move to work & if it does you will want him to become a full Charlton player.
