As I understand it, the leak was from someone senior in Man U confirming that Mourinho's agent was due for talks to finalise a deal. Which kind of makes sense to me, as I don't think the BBC would lead with such a big story just on the say-so of an agent alone. Very poor show if that is the case. Doesn't matter what anyone thinks of LVG,; leaking that out on day they won the FA Cup is a disgrace! Absolutely. Any opinions on the lack of advantage played when Wickham was pulled down, but got up to score, only to have it ruled out for a free kick?

With London recuperating, I'll be running the Euro 16 Prediction Competition. Just to help us get warmed up, we can have a few "friendly" practises before the event kicks of next month.
This Sunday England are playing Turkey at the Etihad presumably without any of their Manchester United (or Palace!) players.
3 - 1 England, just to keep the dream alive.

I dont think he has been talking to Newcastle and Villa when he says he is in discussions. My bet is in this order favourites for his services. Sheff Utd Blackburn Cardiff Forest C Sheffield United have taken the Northampton manager. Think Cardiff have also appointed. Paul Trollope is the new Cardiff manager.

I, for one, would be in favour. Not me. Being entirely selfish about this, I love Loftus Road under the lights and we would lose those matches, excluding our humiliation at home by a league 2 (or 3) club at home in the League Cup.

Very nice.
Is that one of the pennants exchanged by the clubs or a forerunner of the half and half scarves that Terry likes so much?

Good to see that QPR supporter James Vince made his England debut today and played his role perfectly in the customary batting collapse.

Or here... Five-star R's crowned Stateside championsSILVERWARE will be winging its way back to W12 this weekend after QPR Under-18s stormed to the Newark International Soccer Classic title on Saturday night. Steve Gallen’s side were crowned champions after a resounding 5-1 victory over Liverpool completed a fairytale ending in New Jersey's all English final. Aaron Mitchell’s double – top goalscorer for the tournament with five – set Rangers on their way either side of strikes from Olamide Shodipo, Reece Grego-Cox and Andreas Komodikis. The final whistle sparked jubilant scenes on and off the pitch as the young R's lapped up the celebrations at the end of a truly memorable seven-day stay Stateside. Gallen named an unchanged line-up for the final, keeping faith with the same XI which won so convincingly against Inter Milan just 24 hours earlier. Rangers almost picked up where they left off as Grego-Cox burst down the right. His cross was aimed at George Butler but the R’s midfielder couldn’t connect as Liverpool cleared the early danger. At the other end, Sergi Canos was proving the Merseysiders’ main threat. The Reds winger saw a deft header smothered by Mark Smith before Osman Kakay blocked his shot inside the area minutes later. Grego-Cox was again in the thick of the action on 16 minutes, inches away from providing a breathtaking opener. After cutting inside from the left, the striker’s shot to the far post seemed destined for the nebt but curled agonisingly the wrong side of the post. Komodikis was next to try his luck from slightly further out but couldn’t keep his drive on target as the ball flew harmlessly over the Liverpool goal. An opening goal was forthcoming, though, as Rangers profited from a defensive mix-up in the Reds defence. Left-back Daniel Cleary’s attempted backpass fell straight to Shodipo, who took full advantage to drill his volley high into the net. The R’s one-goal lead almost quickly turned into two as Grego-Cox latched onto Smith’s long punt up field. The R’s striker raced clear of the Reds backline but dragged his shot wide of the far post. Rangers weren’t to be denied a second goal, though, as another defensive mishap allowed Mitchell to bag his fourth in the space of two days. Crump’s goalkick landed straight at the R’s midfielder's feet, who punished the goalkeeper with a devastating finishing low into the corner from 20 yards. The R’s two-goal lead was shortlived, however, as Liverpool responded in the final minute of the half. Alex O’Hanlon’s cross was floated to the back post, where Canos rose highest to reduce the deficit with a firm header. If the goal was a setback to the R’s title hopes at half-time, it didn’t show as Rangers restored their two-goal cushion in style within eight minutes of the re-start. Grego-Cox drifted inside before curling a sumptuous effort into the top corner with Crump left helpless in the Reds goal. Rangers compounded Clump's misery with a fourth goal less than 90 seconds later. Mitchell latched onto Kakay's lob forward before cooly sliding the ball underneath the Reds goalkeeper. Liverpool fought desperately for a way back but, after Smith waved substitute Ryan Kent's effort wide of his near post, Darnell Furlong flung himself in the way of Canos' volley to preserve the R's stranglehold on proceedings. They strengthed their grip further with a final goal fourteen minutes from time. Brandon Comley's perfectly weighted through ball released Komodikis, who stayed composed to tuck away number five. There was still time for Rangers to threaten another as Grego-Cox and substitute Tyrell Mitford both tried their luck from distance without success. The game as a contest was over, though, long before the final whistle signalled the start of the celebrations. QPR: Smith, Furlong, Kakay, Comley, Wise, Kpekawa, Komodikis (Mitford 81), Mitchell (Page 67), Grego-Cox, Butler (Young 63), Shodipo. Bookings: Furlong (73) Scorers: Shodipo 23, Mitchell 42, 55, Grego-Cox 53, Komodikis 76. www.qpr.co.uk/news/article/310813-u18s-liverpool-report-1028207.aspxHowever if Furlong, Kpekawa and Shodipo push for first team places that is a pretty decent return.

I guess Aaron Mitchell didn't progress from here... Mitchell hat-trick fires R's into all English finalAARON Mitchell’s fairytale hat-trick fired QPR's Under-18s into the Newark International Soccer Classic final at the expense of Inter Milan on Friday night. Rangers came from behind to overturn a one-goal deficit as Steve Gallen’s side cancelled out Inter’s opener with a scintillating second half showing. Three goals in 30 minutes from midfielder Mitchell – the first from the penalty spot – capped a remarkable comeback as the R's finished top of Group A, setting up a mouth-watering all English affair with Liverpool on Saturday in the process. Ahead of the group decider, Gallen made two changes from the side which fired five past PDA last time out as Mark Smith returned between the sticks at the expense of Conor Hudnott while George Butler replaced Callum O’Sullivan in midfield. Rangers were quickest out of the blocks, twice coming close to making the perfect start within three minutes. Reece Grego-Cox found space in behind the Inter defence before picking out Olamide Shodipo, whose powerful stooping header was palmed over the bar by Ionut Radu in the Milan goal. From Brandon Comley’s resulting corner Cole Kpekawa rose highest but couldn’t prevent his header flying over the crossbar. The early pressure sparked Inter into life, with a succession of near misses on the R’s goal. Federico Di Marco’s free-kick forced a fine one-handed save out of Smith before Darnell Furlong was forced to scramble Samuel Appiah’s downward header off the line. Pedro Delgado was next to try his luck but his long-range effort drifted harmlessly wide before Appiah latched onto a long ball only to see his goalbound effort deflect wide. Respite for Rangers came in the form of Grego-Cox’s foray forward shortly before the half hour mark. The R’s striker burst clear of his marker but could only shoot straight at the goalkeeper. After seemingly weathering the storm, it was Inter who struck first with a stunning goal three minutes before the break. Enrico Baldini drifted inside before delivering a sumptuous effort into the top corner, leaving Smith motionless in the R’s goal. Rangers went in search of an equaliser from the re-start, forcing the Italians deep at the start of the second half. Grego-Cox - working tirelessly in attack - was finally rewarded for his efforts shortly before the hour mark, outpacing the Inter backline before being ceremoniously hauled down in the area. On spot-kick duties was Mitchell, whose penalty ballooned high into the top right corner to bring the R’s level. Inter pressed for an immediate reply but the R’s defence stood firm while Delgado wasted a free-kick, blazing over from a dangerous position. The Inter frontman spurned an even clearer chance on 74 minutes as Di Marco’s pace posed problems down the R’s left. His cross fell perfectly for Delgado at the near post but the ball somehow squirmed wide. It proved pivotal as the R’s were clinical at the other end when Mitchell doubled his tally following another surge from Furlong down the right. His inch-perfect cross found the midfielder, whose header soared into the top corner to edge Rangers in front for the first time. With their tails up, Gallen's youngsters set the seal on a momentous victory two minutes from time as Mitchell completed a famous evening in style. After bursting onto Comley's knock down, he let fly with an unstoppable half volley into the far corner. There was little time for Milan to react as Rangers closed out proceedings in the dying stages, safe in the knowledge their place in Saturday's final was soundly secured. QPR: Smith, Furlong, Kakay, Comley (O’Sullivan 90), Wise, Kpekawa, Komodikis (Page 85), Mitchell, Grego-Cox (Mitford 79), Butler, Shodipo (Young 70). www.qpr.co.uk/news/article/310813-u18s-inter-report-1025608.aspx

and the British legal system has back down ..... Leicester City's Danny Simpson wins curfew appealLeicester City star Danny Simpson has won an appeal against a curfew that would have prevented him joining events to mark his club's Premier League win. The curfew had been imposed on Thursday, after a community sentence - given to Simpson for assaulting the mother of his child - was revoked. The 29-year-old complained that "press intrusion" was stopping him completing the 300 hours of unpaid work. A judge has now lifted the curfew - but restored the community order. The player denied attempting to strangle his ex-partner but was convicted last May and ordered to complete 300 hours in unpaid work. Judge Richard Mansell QC at Manchester Crown Court overturned the decision and ruled Simpson must now complete the unpaid work after all. On Thursday his lawyer had complained journalists had found where he was carrying out his community service, making it impossible. 'Back to square one' Judge Mansell said: "He's hardly keeping a low profile, turning up for unpaid work in a Lamborghini. Why can't he get a cab?" He said he "did not buy" Simpson could not do his unpaid work elsewhere - other footballers had done it. The judge, sitting with two magistrates, told Simpson he can complete the rest of his 300 hours once his club commitments diminish over the summer. Judge Mansell added: "We are back to square one, and it's cost the appellant a significant amount of money." On Thursday District Judge Alexandra Simmonds, at Manchester Magistrates' Court had said Simpson must wear an electronic tag and stay indoors at his home in Salford between 22:00 and 06:00 for the next 21 days. The former Manchester United player, who also played for Newcastle and QPR, was arrested on 29 December after a reports of a row at a house in Worsley, Greater Manchester. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-36281843

Thanks to Mark a copy arrived today for me. Read abiut a third of it so far and a very good read it is too. Anyone know what Ron Phillips's memoir is going for and where? Glad you are enjoying it Lone. Terry and I agreed that the excerpts from Ron Phillips' memoirs were the best bit. I keep meaning to look for them, if I find a source I'll let you know.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Henry get another season, it may depend on whether he demands two or longer. As for Doughty, I've always enjoyed watching him play, lots of energy, box to box and a good talker, I hope he is under serious consideration but suspect that he will be off this summer.

On 22nd September 2011 Clint Hill’s unexpected venture into the Premier League came to a juddering halt. Although very brief, it had been an immensely chastening experience. A few weeks earlier his top flight debut had been a disaster; Hill had been sent off for a head butt borne out of frustration towards the end of a 4 – 0 home drubbing at the hands of Bolton Wanderers. While he served his suspension a consortium fronted by Malaysian entrepreneur Tony Fernandes bought QPR and, with the new transfer funds made available to him, manager Neil Warnock signed Armand Traoré from Arsenal to replace Hill. Excluded from first team football, and written off as a top flight player after barely 90 minutes, Hill accepted an offer to go on loan to Nottingham Forest in the Championship and reluctantly conceded that the Premier League was going to be an unfulfilled ambition. Frank Worthington: Ex-England striker has Alzheimer's disease, says daughterFormer England striker Frank Worthington has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, his daughter says. Worthington, 67, had a playing career spanning 26 years that included more than 200 appearances for Leicester. He started his career at Huddersfield and also played for the likes of Leeds, Bolton Wanderers and Sunderland. "He was diagnosed several years ago and has been holding it off with positive thinking and football," wrote Kim-Malou Worthington in a post on Facebook. "They say several footballers from my dad's era seem to have suffered the same disease, possibly due to the constant heading of the heavy football back in the day." Jeff Astle, another former England striker, died in 2002 from brain trauma which a coroner ruled was caused by heading heavy leather balls. Three members of England's 1966 World Cup-winning squad - Martin Peters, Nobby Stiles and Ray Wilson - also have Alzheimer's, the most common cause of dementia. The Football Association wants world governing body Fifa to investigate whether former players have dementia as a consequence of playing the game. Worthington won eight England caps, scoring two goals. He scored a memorable individual goal for Bolton during a Division One match against Ipswich in 1979. Worthington went on to manage Tranmere Rovers in the mid-1980s and was player-coach at hometown club Halifax in the 1991-92 season. His daughter added: "It's a funny thing that the one big lesson my dad always taught me was 'mind over matter'... no matter how hard life gets, being positive will pull you through, every adversity is an opportunity for change and growth. "My heart goes out to all those affected by Alzheimer's, what a journey it is for all those affected." www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/36224896I always looked forward to Frank coming to Loftus Road, in fact I was talking about him yet again before the Reading match. He was an exception talent and would have worn our No 10 shirt with distinction. Sad, sad news.

POTY 2015/16 winners announced … Grant Hall named Supporters' Player of the Year Tjaronn Chery wins awards double Alan Barnes scoops Supporter of the Year award QPR duo Grant Hall and Tjaronn Chery have capped fine maiden seasons at Loftus Road by featuring prominently in the club's end of season awards. Defender Hall, who arrived from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer, has been named Supporters' Player of the Year by R's fans, in a season in which he's made 41 appearances to date, scoring one goal. Chery, meanwhile, has scooped two awards, winning the Ray Jones Players’ Player of the Year and Junior Hoops’ Player of the Year gongs. The Dutchman, another summer arrival from FC Groningen, has enjoyed a strong campaign in W12, with 10 goals to his name in the Championship so far. The Daphne Biggs Supporters’ Young Player of the Year award goes to Darnell Furlong for the second season in a row. The young right-back has spent two successful loan spells away from Loftus Road this season, featuring 11 times for League Two champions Northampton Town in the first half of the campaign, before joining Cambridge United, for whom he's made 20 appearances to date. Junior Hoilett is the recipient of the Kiyan Prince Goal of the Season award. The Canadian's sublime individual effort against Brentford in our 3-0 victory over the Bees in March received over 50 per-cent of the votes from the six-goal shortlist. Finally, Alan Barnes has been voted Supporter of the Year by his fellow fans. Alan, a lifelong QPR fan who travels home and away to follow the club, was injured whilst travelling to our fixture against Nottingham Forest earlier this season, but is now on the road to recovery - and already back supporting QPR, of course! The awards will be presented prior to our final fixture of the season against Bristol City on Saturday. He is a pro footballer, given the admiration by the club and FANS, for nearly 4 seasons now. And you think its right we cut off his career because of qpr's disgusting contract policy? Where are you coming from roller? Maude, just as I had no issue with Ryan Nelsen bailing out of his contract to become manager at Toronto, I have no problem with QPR choosing not to play Green. Surely his agent must have explained to him that this was a possibility when they insisted on the clause in his contract. If Green was really worried about dropping “out of footballing existence” then he would have torn his contract up and become a free agent; he did not. I wonder what his agent’s advice was? Good luck to him in the future.
