There will always be questions and more that can be done, but it is a start and deserves acknowledgement.

As we've seen first hand, clearing out certain players is just as important as signing the right ones, and far harder. Personally I'm not concerned about any of the teams coming down, our destiny will very much be under our own control.
For what it's worth, I think that Norwich will do best of the relegated teams and my mate Rod, who lives in Budgie territory, will be apoplectic.

I understand that Smithies had an operation towards the back end of last season, but I can't for the life of me remember what for. Minor injuries are pretty common during recovery from surgery.

Final Table: Congratulations to Gladstone! Fair result as he was winning more often than not, but mighty, mighty close. Gladstone | 43 | Fabs | 42 | Kenthoop | 41 | AuntyJack | 40 | Ashdown | 38 | SimonR | 37 | Bushman | 35 | Roller | 35 | Canada | 33 | London | 31 | Wrenboy | 30 | No1NZ | 26 | TerryB | 25 | Harr | 24 | Bowles | 23 | Sharky | 23 | StyleCouncillor | 22 | Eusebio | 20 |
Thanks to all who took part in this sprint, the torch very happily passed back to London for the marathon of the new league season.

Don't think he's a very good captain but if not him then who? Fair point Sharky. I've said before that signing a new captain would have been my number one priority this summer; it would appear that the club don't base their transfer policy around my column in AKUTR's However, the ideal candidate may not be at the club yet and I'm not sure why the pressing need to announce this as yet. It is also worth considering that Bidwell was captain at Brentford last season.

Poor decision, not a leader and he wouldn't even make my starting eleven.

Not disputing his commitment at all. But the fact is he's not as good as QPR fans like to think he is and his injury history means you can't rely on him. Its a shame when players like him go but time to move on now. It is not often I disagree with you Nomar, but I'd be hard pushed to think of a better footballer we've had at QPR in the last 10 years. Of course the injuries have taken their toll, but if it hadn't been for the first one he'd have left us years ago - the top clubs here and in Italy were looking at him in those days. Even after three ACLs he still made the team tick and we badly missed his presence when he wasn't playing. Don't sell him short.

A 1-0 win with a Seb Polter penalty. Most of the second half we were defending, but in the main we didn't look in trouble until the last five minutes. Matt Ingram was very good in goal, but the good news with 'keepers is that Alec Smithies has now returned to full training. I don't think we will be concedeing as many this season! I liked what I saw of our new Pole. I will have to learn his name! Did the other new boys play Terry?

If France rattle up 41 goals you are going to be a tad cheesed off!

With just 1 match to go, the winner will come from the following 3. Gladstone | 43 | Fabs | 42 | Kenthoop | 40 |
We'd better have a tie breaker to decide the winner in case of the final scores being level, so let's go for the nearest to the time of the first goal (and hope that there is one). Portugal 0 - 2 France

10 Million coming in for Fer and Phillips .... need a new winger and goalscorer familiar with Championship. Murray would do me, not Andy though Do you think that we have already spent some of that £10 million on Lynch, Bidwell and Borysiuk?

It is really tight at the top with just 2 points separating Gladstone, Fabs and Kenthoop with only 3 matches to go.
Onto the semi-finals:
Portugal 1 - 1 Wales Germany 1 - 1 France

Update after the quarter finals. Sorry to disappoint you Terry but you are not last, you are not even last in the back row of MU! At the other end of the table, Gladstone is still setting the pace, but Fabs and Kenthoop are hot on his tail with just 3 matches to go. It will be a very tight finish. Good luck all. Gladstone | 42 | Fabs | 41 | Kenthoop | 40 | SimonR | 37 | Ashdown | 36 | AuntyJack | 36 | Roller | 35 | Bushman | 34 | Canada | 31 | London | 30 | Wrenboy | 27 | No1NZ | 25 | Harr | 24 | TerryB | 24 | Sharky | 23 | Bowles | 22 | StyleCouncillor | 21 | Eusebio | 16 |

I'm concerned about what this means for Jack Robinson, his debut was one of the highlights of last season. I'd guess that the poor lad is struggling to regain fitness as I don't see us spending money unnecessarily.
Welcome Jake and good luck. Another potential captain, JFH doing a good job in addressing our lack of leaders on the pitch.
