Tough Mirrir piece qprreport: DavidKidd/@mirror "Harry Redknapp must find the energy to inspire #QPR – the Prem's no country for tired old men" t.co/fO1TaG0HarHarry Redknapp must find the energy to inspire QPR – the Prem's no country for tired old men Oct 20, 2014 20:30 OPINION BY DAVEKIDD Dave Kidd looks at a manager who in his prime coaxed brilliant play from maverick footballers and sees someone who has not moved with the times Clive RoseMoan Ranger: Perhaps Redknapp should have called it a day after delivering promotion in May There was a time, at the peak of his managerial powers, when Harry Redknapp would have revelled in the challenge of managing Adel Taarabt. He would coax great deeds from such moody mavericks, revive players with battered reputations and produce eye-catching teams which punched above their weight. Yet after QPR’s head-spinning defeat by Liverpool on Sunday, Redknapp snapped and launched an extraordinary tirade about Taarabt’s poor attitude, lack of fitness and lavish wages. “I can’t keep protecting people who don’t want to train, and are about three stone overweight. What am I supposed to keep saying? 'Keep getting your 60, 70 grand a week and don’t train'? What’s the game coming to?” It was difficult not to admire his honesty and agree with an exasperated voice of reason. But if Redknapp can’t keep protecting Taarabt, there will be plenty of other managers prepared to do so. Because to manage successfully in the Premier League is to apply a clothes-peg to your nose and indulge young millionaires whose attitudes can stink the place out. Witness those Sunderland players who downed tools in their farcical 8-0 humiliation at Southampton, then assumed they could placate travelling fans by organising a whip-round. Give up, play like clowns, chuck money at the problem and earn a pat on the back. This is precisely what the game’s coming to. Ben HoskinsBig issue: If Redknapp can't get a tune out of Taarabt, plenty are willing to try Redknapp did little to prevent football’s rampant wage inflation while at Portsmouth – and in a more reflective moment, he will recognise Taarabt is earning shedloads because he possesses talent. The Moroccan spent three months on loan at AC Milan last season and regularly lit up the San Siro. So if Taarabt IS overweight and unmotivated, then Redknapp and his staff are failing. He is not an easy man to manage but then neither was Paolo Di Canio, when Redknapp indulged him so successfully at West Ham. Redknapp is not on a seven-figure salary merely to provide press-conference cabaret. There had been a large attendance at Friday’s pre-match media briefing. Redknapp knew the score. The vulture culture. QPR were bottom and so it was his turn to be on death watch. He gave us gallows humour, man-of-the-people quips, sarcastic swipes and gold-dust soundbites. But all delivered in the tone of an old man tired of the white noise, weary of the Premier League’s cacophony of nonsense. Asked about the Raheem Sterling ‘tiredness’ debate, Redknapp harked back to the old days and suggested that modern fitness methods were something of a mystery. Asked about Les Ferdinand being appointed as QPR’s ‘head of football operations’, Redknapp branded this ‘a silly title’ and shrugged shoulders about the exact nature of the role. QPR 2-3 Liverpool in pictures: VIEW GALLERY Asked about Rio Ferdinand being charged for making an abusive comment on Twitter, Redknapp denied all knowledge of the medium his owner Tony Fernandes uses to publicly question him. You could sympathise with him on each score – but you couldn’t help recognise a man who had failed to emulate his friend Sir Alex Ferguson by adapting with the times. Times in which footballers must be regarded as elite athletes, bubble-wrapped by sports science. Times in which excitable club owners will hand non-jobs to club icons in desperate bids for popularity. Times in which a member of the FA Commission into the future of English football can broadcast a ‘your mum’s a slag’ message to one of his personal social-media audience of six million people. At times, QPR can still resemble the Celebrity Big Brother house – Redknapp, Fernandes, Rio, Sir Les, Glenn Hoddle and Joey Barton. It is not an easy environment in which to manage. Redknapp says he would have retired had QPR lost last season’s play-off final. QPR's play-off final win in pictures: VIEW GALLERY At the age of 67, after a heart scare, a lengthy tax-evasion trial, an England snub and a brutal sacking by Tottenham, perhaps he should have bowed out at Wembley with a flower in his lapel and a medal round his neck. There had been discontented murmurings about his lax regime even as QPR sneaked to promotion. Now, a group of players talented enough to out-play Liverpool are under-achieving due to fitness issues and tactical naivety. Redknapp must somehow rediscover the energy to revitalise his squad, even Taarabt. Or else it is time to recognise that the Premier League is no country for tired old men.

Thanks for getting us promoted that year Adel or should I say helping but can't see you playing again for us .
Bags of skill but a silly boy at times
Redknapp should never have said he was three stone overweight he blatantly lied, bad management. Adel also had a bit of a point about true match fitness you only get that thro playing time , matches or friendlies.
Redknapp brought this on himself dealt with poorly after frustration his team threw away a point which they certainly deserved. All the best Adel

Why does the chairman have to tweet and get involved? Why? And then the 'smart not stupid chairman decides to delete his tweets, fcuking shambles the whole fcuking club, from the chairman down.
And people still chant his name and speak of him as some kind of hero. This is the person who keeps telling you 'lessons have been learned'.

Adel also had a bit of a point about true match fitness you only get that thro playing time , matches or friendlies. Redknapp brought this on himself dealt with poorly after frustration his team threw away a point which they certainly deserved. All the best Adel ? Are you saying that someone who isn't fit enough to even start basic training ought to get picked for a premiership game so he can get the opportunity to be 'match fit'? "Redknapp bought this upon himself". As far as I understand it AT was already 'walking out', 'catching a bus', 'late for training', 'late for the beginning of the season', 'wanting to join a different club' a long time before Redknapp appeared on the scene. AT earns more in a week than me and my wife do in a year. If either of us refused to do our job, we would be sacked. This is not necessarily AT's fault because our people signed his contract and he (as it seems all other professional footballers) can't be sacked if they don't feel like doing their job. Do you think Redknapp has had Adel weighed and decided to 'lie' about his bulk or is there a smidgen of an idea that he may just have been p*ss*d off about another Adel question when the real business of the premiership was the subect of the press conference. 'Bad management', is that Warnock, Hughes, Redknapp, Jol, whoever was manager in Italy and Redknapp again - not forgetting that he was moved on a bit. Isn't it just possible that everyone wasn't wrong and its Adel's character that's at fault?

No I am not Alfa Of course Adel is at fault here for sure I am not suggesting he isn't. but he does have a point re getting sharper through playing matches. You can train train train for a year and still not be match sharp.
Yes He earns more than me and my wife in a week too .Crazy he sits on the bench getting it.
Just feel Redknapp did not need to stoop as low as he did in that post match conference re the weight. Redknapp lost it as he was hurting after the defeat .
If he kept it short all this other stuff probably wouldn't have come out now and didn't need to come out, that's all I'm saying. Adel has been a constant pain yes , they have all had problems with him at some stage yes but the last thing we want this stage of the season is more crap . If Adel can hold in his stomach to lose Three stone , I want the secret .

Oh ............It's a difficult one re the weight Alfa , TAARABT says he is pretty much the same weight he was when he went on loan and scored goals . So where this weight is heaven knows.
Anyhow a bit relieved the Adel saga will finally be over and we can get back to trying to stay in the League. I agree with you 100% he is a silly boy though but Managers this day and age have to deal with these characters without coming out like that. I found it interesting listening to Derry the other day saying all players are selfish you have to constant mother them . Part and parcel of modern football I guess?

My point being if you treat players like that who have nothing to do with todays game or loss then its a wonder any of the squad respect him. Wonder who's going to be next that he puts down ? Today the side shipped a record 3 own goals...Pick on them they caused the loss of the game ffs Total c**p. Having read your various comments on yesterday's match I think we must have been watching different games.
Ignoring your other posts and just looking at this one, there were not 3 own goals - sure their second brushed a leg on the way in but it was not an own goal - if it was, Vargas's second was an own goal as well.
Harry's comments re Fat Boy were in response to a question about the Fat Boy so who else should he have spoke about. The Fat Boy is getting £3million a year for doing nothing, and people on here call Rio and others Mercenaries! Harry even pointed out that if people keep asking him about Fat Boy what else can he say and he cannot keep covering up for him for ever.
Fat Boy has been warned enough times and does not have the brain to work it out. I'm glad Harry has had the guts to give him the public blast he deserves. As for picking on other players you obviously did not watch all Harry's after match interviews. He praised the whole team for their attitude and effort and general performance but blasted Fer in particular for flopping a cross to the Liverpool defence with 30 seconds left instead of taking a shot which either would have gone in or into the crowd and the game would have over with a well deserved point.
He also blasted the players for being naïve and those who switched off - and there were at least five who did switch off - for the first Liverpool goal.
People on here have been calling for Harry to show more passion and yesterday he did and told things as they are - if you can't handle the truth don't watch.
And then all the previous comments about the players not showing passion and not appealing for a handball at West Ham. Well you got your way yesterday - five of them turned their backs and argued with the ref about a free kick and watched as the ball hit the back of net from their first goal.
Back to Fat Boy buy out his contract and get him out of the place - he is a disruptive and negative influence. What incentive is there for other players to train hard when they see what he gets away with and know how much he is paid for doing nothing. The players all know about Fat Boy and I bet the players have a bit more respect for Harry for standing up and saying how he feels.
When Fat Boy goes we can concentrate on things that matter rather than Fat Boys weight with questions like "is he really 40lbs overweight" - Just look at a photo of the (censored) and you can see that he is overweight - how much overweight depends on what he had for dinner last night.
ssshh.

Neither Redknapp or Fernandes come out of this with any credit at all.
There appears to be a lot of cold hard truth in what Taarabt says especially regarding training and game plans.
Ultimately, the management at this club is poor and unprofessional and now its coming to the surface.
The press will feast on this for weeks now.
We better beat Villa on Monday now because if we don't then that'll be the end for Harry. If not then, then certainly after we lose to Man City and Chelsea.
Which, on reflection, may not necessarily be a bad thing after all.

Think we all agree, whatever we think of Redknapp, Fernandes or Taarabt, it would have been far better if Redknapp had kept quiet. And Taarabt had kept quiet.
Is what either men saying of each other, true? I'd imagine, true for both of what they're saying

I asked this question a few months ago and strangely, none of Adel's Harem answered. I'll as again.
Was Alex Ferguson wrong for getting rid of world class players like Beckham, Stamm, Van Nistleroy, Keane etc, for what they said or done to question his methods or authority and thought they were bigger than the club?
Compare the names above to the overweight, uncommitted, one season wonder (Championship) and its laughable the excuses and bollocks people come out with, to explain/excuse he behavior.

First: No one should allow themselves to be "chased off the board" by any other poster
Second: Using terms such as "Adel's Harem" - without substance - is as offensive that characterizing others as "Redknapp's poodles" or "Fernandes Lackies"
No problem arguing the merits re Taarabt. But do find objectionable such terminology.

Fat boy is a bit harsh 57 specially as he isn't even fat I guess the reporter got the response from Redknapp that he dreamed of . I am still finding it hard how we chucked a point away and got nothing from that game . Getting back to 2-2 then with 60 seconds to lose it again . Still lets see what Harry can do over the next four games then we can compare him to Hughes like for like 12 games and see if we are happy with our pts total ?
