how much was adam johnson to citeh and how much was swp to us? is johnson one of those ambidextrous players i was on about that are sought after and cost absolute fortunes? No, he's left footed, although its strange how many "ambidextrous" as you call them players Holland, Germany, France, Spain etc produce, it must be something in the water. |

SWP is shocking. You know most players may not be as good on their 'wrong' foot but they're not as bad as SWP! They still have the ability to kick the ball and deliver crosses. Adam Johnson as has been mentioned is a good example. What a quality, quality player he is. At times, SWP actually cannot kick the ball with any effect. When trying to beat players, I can't even explain what he is trying to do. He has so much pace yet its only seen once a game. Yes he is being played on the wrong wing. But he can't shoot. He can't cross. And he cannot beat players.
I think the critisicm on Mackie is harsh. I've seen Mackie bomb down the wing and beat players more in one game than SWP has in his time here. Mackie can score too. He's nothing out of this world but there's usually an end product with him. I think these excuses would have been acceptable up to a month ago. It's been too long now. He needs to produce in his next game or I seriously never want to see him play again.

Adam Johnson has scored 5 goals in 11 Premier League appearances this season, kind of sums up the gulf in quality / ability we are talking about here, most if not all of those goals have come from substitute appearances in the last 20-25 minutes from a winger playing on the "wrong" wing.
Kind of puts to bed the "he's not playing on the right wing" argument.

Mike, you'll find naturally left footed players are far better with their "swinger" than their right footed counterparts. Primarilly, as KLR points out, the limited coaching available usually favours everything being done to right foot based manuals. It's far more difficult to accomodate left footed players into standard coaching scenarios. |

I have faith in the little guy! Not quite as hopeful as you, but still think if anyone is going to drill basic decision making skills into SWP and giving him a defined role, it's Hughes. Don't think we should be completely writing him off just yet. |
