Confusing messages.
Dunne's X says Minor Setback with his shoulder and yesterday was not a true reflection of where he is at. So what did he say yesterday? - implies to me he will be out a bit longer than he expected yesterday
Colback not playing was in WLS - see my post and thoughts in my earlier post above.
Dropping Field back to play CB- I ranted saying no to that after JCS got injured. If we move Field back our defensive midfield becomes no existent especially without Colback. Better leaving him where he is and at least give some protection to the defence.

Dave Mc said it has not collapsed yet. Cook from Forest seems getting close, this would be a great signing. Colback and Cook two very good experienced Championship players and know each others game.

I would imagine we didn’t even put a firm offer in or Whatmough wanted to stay local up north. We won’t be buying more than two centre backs and ours will probably be 2 from 3 , Steve Cook ,Josh Knight and Chris Forino.

Stranger and stranger. If the report from Peterborough is right and we pulled the deal after Knight had said goodbye to the players at Peterborough I would think he must have agreed terms and probably had a medical if he was that sure he was going. In that case I can only think either we found out Dunne's injury is not so bad and are not signing anyone - which still leaves us exposed given JCS's record meaning we would be reliant of Dunne and Fox being fit all season. Or we have bagged Cook and cannot or do not need to sign both. I would prefer Cook who I think would be a great signing and his move to Forest had a dramatic impact on their defence and their winning promotion - not that we are looking at that end of the table yet. If DaveMac says the Knight deal has not collapsed why would Peterborough go public saying it has, or is that report just another ITK report. I'll go for a rest until someone announces something or nothing officially.

Rangers and Leeds said to be interested. Selling Field is very different to selling Chair or Willock.

If the offer for Field is very good, we should let him go especially if it’s a big club that would advance his career.
As good as he is, something like 8m would make a huge difference to the overall squad strength and allow us to plug a lot of gaps. Imagine being able to get a right back, centre back, striker and a replacement midfielder. We don’t need to spend massive amounts to get competent players.
Some of GAs targets are only £350k and right now we don’t even appear to be able to afford that.

No doubt he is worth 8 million to us but would others , especially Beale with inside knowledge, offer anywhere near that number. Interesting though that 2 PL clubs are in a bidding war at 25 million to sign Alex Scott midfielder from Bristol City which means Field at 8 million would be cheap. Then we have the question of how much of any fee could we spend and how much used to balance the FFP books. I expect no one outside the club really knows so all we can do is speculate. Brain starting to hurt now but hope we get at least one piece of the puzzle sorted before Saturday

Something certainly feels odd right now. Player joining, then QPR pull out. The Wing saga. Forino coveted but out of our grasp. WBA rubbing their hands together at the thought of a kickback from Field moving on. Even Dave Mc and WLS seem bemused / inconsistent / or silent. We await clarity, a probable hiding in two days' time as the loyal fans nursing brain aches.

Thankfully we weren’t in for Aden Flint at CB, he has now joined Mansfield.

No idea what and have given up trying to figure it out; Knowing us I would not be surprised to see us sack Ainsworth on Saturday as he gets off the coach at Watford

I have the feeling we will see a few departures from the squad in the rest of this window. Disillusioned players happy to go and I have reached the conclusion that Ainsworth is actually trying to force some players out.
One day he describes Willock and Chair as uncoachable due to their flair and talent but then has hardly used Willock in pre-season and leaves him on the bench at Watford. We are terribly short at the back with the injuries and lack of replacements and will ship lots of goals unless that is corrected. But going forward it seems that the players who do have talent on the ball and passing (and we have enough in midfield) are being sidelined to watch hoof ball as they do not fit the league 2 style we have adopted.
Will we sign anyone? - probably one or two but any decent potential signing watching Saturdays match will not be keen and we will be picking up more league 2 level players to fill the squad.

I hear people saying sell Field and relegation is confirmed.
Same people probably constantly post on social media that we’re going down (with Field) anyway, so what’s the difference?
We know that because of FFP constraints we have to sell players before we can spend transfer fees on replacements, there’s no getting around that. This is the reality for us and if a sensible offer comes in for Field we can’t really turn our nose up at it.

the72.co.uk/2023/08/09/stumbling-blocks-emerge-as-qpr-pursue-deal-for-nottingham-forest-man/Am I the only one who does not get this? We want to sign Cook who is left footed when we have a plethora of left footed defenders and yet no right footed defenders. He is 32 years old, and we are told that wages and structure of the deal is a problem. That says to me 'move on' very loudly. He wants too much, we are trying to kick the can down the road again. I would be disappointed if we can afford an aging Steve Cook but not a 24-year-old Forino. But nothing really surprises me at the moment.

Frankly do not believe half (or most) of what this man posts on the72. Reporting now that stumbling blocks have emerged - they probably did but that was a couple of weeks ago, not new news and why we signed Fox instead. Given the left side players we have how about pushing Paal forward as an extra defensive midfielder (who can also attack) and play the Fulham man who's name I spell wrongly at left back or put Fox out as left back in his natural position once we get a CB back fit or signed. Just an idea. Edit I posted this without seeing Ricky's latest post on Cook medical. more IT's - wait to see something on the Offie.

He would not be the first player to drive down to Loftus Road to sign only to find we had pulled the deal. Memories of transfer window deadline day night and a striker from West Brom driving down to find the deal was off. FARCE AS ODEMWINGIE DEAL COLLAPSES, QPR SIGN TRIO BY EUROSPORT UPDATED 01/02/2013 AT 01:23 GMT+2 The Nigeria striker was filmed arriving at QPR's stadium in West London, telling Sky Sports News that he was to begin "a new chapter" in his career. Odemwingie told Sky: "It's fine. West Brom was my home but this is a new chapter. I love West Brom and always will. "I am optimistic. A few good players have arrived here [at QPR] and I am happy with the trust Harry Redknapp has in me." Those were the days Re Cook maybe they want to show off the new training ground to impress him or maybe lock him in the dressing room until he gives up and signs. Well it certainly is not boring being an R's fan is it.

More ITK's re Cook.
A friend was told by someone who knows someone else who knows someone else x3....... that we are desperate to have him and training with the squad for Saturday because Dunne and JCS are nowhere to be seen. Idea is to get the medical done to make sure there is no issue and be a step ahead to make sure we can register him in time to play if the deal is agreed.
Of course that could be total made up rubbish from someone on Facebook or X but I suppose it would make sense although since when have we been that proactive.

Cook is a good signing imo - going for experience and proven ability rather than the younger Fiorino unproven at this level. What took so long to do the deal ? Maybe the Oxford and Watford results had an influence to make it happen.
The issue now is that we are heavily loaded with left sided defenders with only Dunne on his return and Kakay on the right.
If we have Colback and Field in defensive midfield I will be happier than seeing Dozell but we are open to injuries still there. So we really need a right back, preferably one who can also play in the middle and a goal scorer to get the squad near the level where we can be more positive. Attacking midfield/no 10's - we have plenty with some younger ones looking like they can break through.
Can we get another free or two and a decent PL loan or are our finances now committed. Without selling, outgoing loans may be needed to balance the books. I'm sure there will be another twist before the window closes and only hope it is not the departure of one of our key players at the last minute with no time to get a replacement.

We need a CM (as Field and Colback will not be able to play every game), RB and CF.
Expect a loan or two from the PL near the end of the transfer window.
A decent CF will be the hardest to get with very little cash.
The rest of the squad is adequate in a very tough division and, barring an injury crisis, could keep us up - if we get those three positions covered.

Liverpool agree to pay 111million to Brighton for a 21 year old midfielder from Ecuador. All I can say is *** ***** **** censored. At least it takes the shine off Levy getting 86million for Kane going to Bayern.
If we have a 21 year old we have to send him out on loan for 3 seasons to gain experience - and then decide he is no good. - Eze being the exception.
Now if this guy is worth 111 million what price Eze - Palace should cash in on him now and let us have the windfall sell on fee to ease (no pun intended) our problems.
