From the Evening Standard www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/qpr-to-cash-in-on-luke-freeman-if-3m-transfer-valuation-is-met-a3900521.htmlQPR to cash in on Luke Freeman if £3m transfer valuation is metGIUSEPPE MURO 36 minutes ago QPR are prepared to sell Luke Freeman for around 10 times the fee they paid Bristol City for him just 18 months ago. Sheffield United, West Brom and Middlesbrough are all chasing the £3million-rated forward who joined QPR for £350,000 in January 2017 and scored five goals last season. New manager Steve McClaren insists QPR do not need to sell despite their settlement with the EFL last week for failing to comply with Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules. But the club are willing to let the 26-year-old leave if their valuation is met.

From Dave Mac at WLS. Good to hear. We need a couple of good signings - one defender and one striker. www.westlondonsport.com/qpr/qpr-boss-keen-to-make-signingsQPR boss keen to make signingsBy David McIntyre 31/07/2018 Steve McClaren hopes QPR will be able to add a couple of signings to the squad in the coming weeks. The transfer window closes on 9 August but EFL clubs can make loan signings up until the 31st. Rangers are looking to tie up a deal to sign Australia centre-back Trent Sainsbury and are also keen to bring in at least one striker. McClaren says the QPR hierarchy have told him new players will be brought in. “We want to bring players in, they’ve said that’s OK,” he said. “We’ve got to work within a certain budget, but we’ll do that.”The Rangers manager also believes a return to fitness for Grant Hall would be as good as a new signing. Hall, who missed most of last season with a knee injury, is due to return to action in a behind-closed-doors game against Swindon on Tuesday. McClaren said: “I think we just need to add two or three quality players, of which one I hope will be Grant Hall. “He would be like a new signing if he does come in.”

I would think that The Standard story is a re-wording from the other papers.
It is a long time since they have been regarded as reliable.

If we get shot of either or both they will need replacing PLUS the striker we are hoping to get in anyway. We can't afford to be light in numbers in any position (in case of any lengthy injuries) with little chance of adding to the squad until next summer.

Get shot of Washington or Sylla or both, Supposedly we've hired a coach and I'm interested to see what he can do with Sylla (a striker with a 1-3 goal ratio) and Washington (who was coming off a really good 2 seasons of scoring for Peterborough). I don't see us having the money to buy players of a better quality, don't get me wrong we may find a lower league player or a foreign-based player who lights up the division but average strikers cost circa £10m. Bamford score 11 goals in 41 games last year last season while Sylla has scored 17 in 55 for Rangers in 2 seasons

Spoke to him afterwards and he was the nicest guy. Think he needs to get a bit nastier!!

Aston Villa have made a surprise offer for Barcelona defender Yerry Mina, reports TMW.
The Sky Bet Championship side have offered Barcelona an initial fee of €10m and €10m in add-ons.

From the Offie. More on Furlong's extended deal www.qpr.co.uk/news/club-news/furlong-extends-qpr-deal/Furlong extends QPR deal until 2021Paul Morrissey @pjmorrissey77 DARNELL Furlong has committed his future to QPR by signing a three-year deal at Loftus Road. The contract will keep the R’s youth product at the club until the summer of 2021. Furlong, whose original contract was set to expire in 2019, told http://www.qpr.co.uk: “I am delighted. No contract is more special than the one you’re signing now and having been here since I was ten it means a lot. “Contracts aren’t just given to you, you have to work hard to earn them. You can’t take it for granted and already I’m thinking about what I need to do to earn the next one. “Nothing is going to change for me. “I am just happy this has been sorted out so that I can focus fully on doing what I need to do to get out on the pitch.” Furlong was widely-tipped to be Steve McClaren’s first-choice right-back this season before a knee injury sustained in a pre-season friendly ruled him out for three months. The 22-year-old admitted: “It has been really horrible, to be honest – especially today when all the lads are arriving in their tracksuits to head to Preston for the first game. “It’s been hard to take.” Furlong suffered a torn knee ligament against AFC Wimbledon last month, the first serious injury of his career, and he added: “It has been tough but the QPR medical team have been great. “They quickly assessed me and got me in for surgery straight away which has helped shave some time off. I am really thankful to the doc and the physios. “I have got the right people here and at home as well. I am already looking forward to coming back.” QPR boss Steve McClaren added: “Darnell fully deserves this new deal and I am delighted for him. “He is a huge asset to the club and when he is back and available it will feel like a new signing for us. “Players who come through the ranks always have that special affinity with the club and I am really pleased to see him commit his future to QPR.”

Fox sports just reporting Sainsbury a free agent, terminated his contract. QPR ? Eindhoven or Villa ? TRENT Sainsbury is a free agent after the Socceroos defender terminated his contract with Chinese Super League club Jiangsu Suning. It clears the way for Sainsbury to make his next move, likely to be to English Championship club QPR, though Aston Villa and Dutch club PSV have also shown interest in the defender. Sainsbury was dropped to Jiangsu’s reserves after his return from the World Cup, but it’s understood the Chinese club were still demanding a hefty transfer fee for him.

From WLS. Some saying this will work against us, but others saying it will help. Depends on what Sainsbury wants. At QPR he'll probably get week in week out game time at PSV (and Villa?) maybe not. We'll know in a few days time I guess. www.westlondonsport.com/qpr/football-trent-sainsbury-contract-updatedQPR target Sainsbury a free agent after terminating contractBy David McIntyre 03/08/2018 QPR transfer target Trent Sainsbury is a free agent after terminating his contract with Jiangsu Suning. Rangers have been hoping to reach an agreement with the Chinese club or that Sainsbury, who was under contract until January, would negotiate his release, paving the way for a move to west London. However, Dutch club PSV Eindhoven are now showing an interest in the Australia defender. He is keen to stay in Europe, having ended last season on loan at Swiss club Grasshoppers. He was previously on loan at Inter Milan. A friend and international team-mate of QPR midfielder Massimo Luongo, Sainsbury, 26, featured in the recent World Cup. PSV’s interest in him has prompted Steve McClaren draw up a shortlist of possible alternative signings, most of whom have significant Championship experience. Rangers manager McClaren has been keen to bring in two central defenders this summer following the departures of out-of-contract duo Nedum Onuoha and Jack Robinson. Toni Leistner was signed from Union Berlin and the R’s have been hoping that Sainsbury would join the German at Loftus Road. With Darnell Furlong having been sidelined with a knee injury, QPR are also considering bringing in a right-back on loan. Meanwhile, the club have rejected an approach from Middlesbrough for Luke Freeman and have confirmed goalkeeper Seny Dieng’s loan move to Stevenage.

From Sky Sports www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/11461339/aston-villas-gary-gardner-a-target-for-west-brom-qpr-and-boltonAston Villa's Gary Gardner a target for West Brom, QPR and BoltonLast Updated: 04/08/18 7:04pm Aston Villa midfielder Gary Gardner is the subject of interest from Championship sides West Brom, QPR and Bolton, Sky sources understand. Gardner came off the bench to make his first-team Villa debut in a 3-1 Premier League win at Chelsea on New Year's Eve in 2011. He has since gone on to make 46 appearances for the club and has enjoyed loan spells with Coventry, Sheffield Wednesday, Brighton and Nottingham Forest. He spent last season on loan at Barnsley where he made 30 appearances and captained the Tykes on a number of occasions. The former England U21 international is the younger brother of former Villa and West Brom midfielder Craig, who is currently playing for Birmingham. West Brom, who were relegated from the Premier League last season, lost 2-1 at home to Bolton in their opening Championship fixture of the season on Saturday. QPR, who last week accepted a transfer ban for January 2019 for breaching Financial Fair Play rules, also lost their Championship opener, going down 1-0 at Preston in Steve McClaren's first competitive game as the club's manager.

From the BBC. McClaren now talking getting loan players in. www.bbc.com/sport/football/44989044Steve McClaren says he hopes to bring in some experienced players on loan to bolster his QPR side after their opening-day defeat at PrestonAlan Browne's second-half looping header at the back post was the difference between the sides as Rangers struggled for possession and shots. The club face a transfer embargo in January and agreed a settlement worth almost £42m with the EFL last month after breaking Financial Fair Play rules. "It's difficult to purchase anybody, so the transfer window is really ineffective for us, but the loan market can be very important," former England manager McClaren told BBC Radio London. "We're looking to strengthen the team and probably bring in a bit more experience because we've got talented youngsters. "We've brought one player in and lost four or five from last season, so in terms of strength we are not where we want to be." Former Derby boss McClaren - who has now won just one of his past 11 games as a manager of an English second-tier side - has until Thursday to bring in permanent signings and will be unable to add any more players until next summer after the loan deadline passes at the end of the month. At Deepdale, Matt Smith had a decent first-half effort for Rangers, but the visitors did not threaten again until the 89th minute as Idrissa Sylla forced a great save from Declan Rudd. Preston's Callum Robinson would have got a second but for a good Matt Ingram save while Tom Barkhuizen had a couple of chances as he impressed in midfield. Preston, who won their opening fixture for a second successive year, had almost two thirds of the possession and efforts on goal.

From The 72 the72.co.uk/112678/bolton-wanderers-qpr-receive-boost-pursuit-fellow-championship-midfielder/Bolton Wanderers & QPR receive boost in pursuit of fellow Championship midfielderby HARRY MAIL on AUG 5, 2018 Bolton Wanderers and QPR have received a boost in their respective pursuits of Aston Villa midfielder Gary Gardner with West Brom ruling themselves out of the race to sign him, as reported by The72 earlier today. The72 reported yesterday that Bolton, QPR and West Brom were all interested in signing the 26-year-old from Aston Villa. However, the Baggies are not interested and are now looking at other options which is good news for Bolton and QPR. Aston Villa may sell Gardner as he has fallen down the pecking order with them and he spent last season on loan at Barnsley. He joined Aston Villa as a youngster in 2005 and has been on their books ever since he rose through their youth ranks. Gardner has only played 46 times for Villa so far in his career and has mainly obtained first-team experience out on loan. He has spent time at Coventry City, Sheffield Wednesday, Brighton and Hove Albion, Nottingham Forest and most recently Barnsley so far in his career. Bolton Wanderers could be his next destination. The Trotters got off to a great start in the Championship today by beating West Brom 2-1 away at the Hawthorns. They are still in the hunt for some more signings before the transfer window shuts next Thursday. QPR are also being linked with him. Their manager, Steve McClaren, wants to add more faces to his newly inherited side and put his own stamp on them after a frustrating summer in the transfer window.
