Tweeting Barton saying what happened (or at least from his perspective) Joseph Barton @joey7barton I got sucker punched in the back of the head. Not injured as reported just a Small bruise on rear of head/ear. I've had worse. Life goes on! Thanks for the concern. Have a good day people. Can I just say a public thanks to the police last night as they were and have been today brilliant. Not planning on pressing charges as its not that serious. The police have also got better things to do with their time. "sucker punched in the back of the head"... Isn't that called "Getting Teves'd"?... (again)

Barton arrested on suspicion of causing an affray.
He's the gift that keeps on giving as far as Newcastle are concerned!

Trouble is it is our clubs' name that follows after his. Surely this has to be the final nail in his QPR career. This is exactly the sort of attention we do not want/need associated with QPR FC. Although not completely guilty of events, he has certainly created the image and reputation for himself.
And some sympathised with Gazza and his drinking issues. I don't think Barton will find too much sympathy.

Barton's been arrested now. After viewing all the CCTV probably, if guilty of this , he's done the club a favour. Tin Tack.

Another problem is that the club tweets earlier basically exonerated Barton. So we look kind of of foolish besides the actual Bartom what he may or may not have done

Barton is a trouble magnet, He needs to get it in his head once and for farking all he needs to stick to the art gallery's and poetry nights, things go just dandy for Joey when he does that, when he goes out to these places trouble is always going to be round the corner, get it in your skull Joey people like you who dont sort there lives out end up either in the nick, in hospital or worse case scenario a coffin so sort it Barton stop making the same f**cking mistake.

Considering he's near 30, he behaves like a 16 year old. Wife, kid and 5:30am altercation. DOH.

By the looks of that photo earlier Barton lost his head and the Club look naive when commenting on a criminal investigation. Ol Cpt Joey was revved up enough to go topless caveman mad and the blood on the arms looks like he caused quite a bit of damage to get the affray charge. Looking at the law on affray en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Affray 3 years ?? Seriously what planet is this guy on to act this way as he must have everything he wants - girlfriend, baby, house, 80k a week, career. He should be able to hold his head up high and say he's made it but this Joey vs the world thing is a bit too much and I'd imagine Joey does this sort of shit all the time when the season ends. Oh & he's nothing like Gazza - to be honest he's very limited in his ability as a player and needs to get down off the pedestal and put some real effort correcting himself. At this point I hate him being mentioned with QPR and the club need to go to a top lawyer to see how they can rip up Joeys contract. Good Riddance

From soccernet:
Police have confirmed that QPR midfielder Joey Barton was attacked outside a nightclub in Liverpool during the early hours of Monday.
Barton, sent off in the final game of last season against Manchester City, was reportedly punched in the face during the incident - which happened outside Garlands nightclub in Liverpool City centre.
Merseyside Police confirmed the incident is being investigated, and two 21-year-olds have been arrested on related matters.
"Merseyside Police were called to Eberle Street in Liverpool city centre at 5.30am this morning following reports of an altercation," said a spokeswoman for Merseyside Police. "On arrival officers found a 29-year-old man who had sustained injuries to his face. The man left the scene voluntarily.
"Two 21-year-old men from the L13 area were arrested at the scene for a public order offence. They are currently in police custody."
Barton - who has long been a polarising figure - was recently banned for 12 matches for his conduct before and after his dismissal against Manchester City, amid reports that QPR will now look to offload him during the summer.
Barton later took to Twitter to confirm he would not press charges, playing down the event and also thanking the police for their help in the matter.
"I got sucker punched in the back of the head," he wrote. "Not injured as reported just a small bruise on rear of head/ear. I've had worse. Life goes on! Thanks for the concern. Have a good day people.
"Not planning on pressing charges as its not that serious. The police have also got better things to do with their time.
"Can I just say a public thanks to the police last night as they were and have been today brilliant."

bbc www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-merseyside-18321310Joey Barton bailed over street fight in Liverpool Joey Barton Joey Barton was sent off on the last day of the season and given a 12 match ban Footballer Joey Barton has been bailed after he was arrested following a fight outside a Liverpool nightclub. Mr Barton, 29, was detained after two men were held over the incident, at about 05:30 BST, outside Garlands club in Eberle Street. The Queens Park Rangers midfielder, who is from Merseyside, was released after questioning by detectives. His arrest came after two 21-year-old men were detained on suspicion of public order offences. A 20-year-old man was also later arrested in connection with the incident. He was later bailed, as were the 21-year-olds. Mr Barton's club said two men sang offensive chants at the player and then punched him in the face. The player was banned for 12 matches after being sent off in Queens Park Rangers' defeat at Manchester City on the final day of the season. He was found guilty of two counts of violent conduct by The Football Association. He joined QPR in August last year, on a free transfer from Newcastle, and became club captain.

"Looking forward to Portugal now tomo. Bit of rest and lots of golf..." was Joey's last tweet today. No mention of being out on bail.
I can only assume that he might have been charged with something after the police interviewed the other guys, so we can only hold out to see if this is more than a case of he said/they said, and if there is any CCTV footage to back it up.
My only assumption would be that Barton didn't take the sucker-punch to the head lying down, which is pretty much exactly what happened to Tevez v Man City.
