As much as I want him gone from the club, no need fpr this type of behaviour. However, as pointed out, Wife, child, 5:30am? WTF?? Joey, you seriously need some serious psychiatric help.

Interesting how some think. And also their conception of crime, justice and the law. So, it's the victim's fault to be punched in the face is it? Or, because of the victim's 'reputation', or past behaviour, is it therefore OK to punch him in the face? Is it illegal to go out to a nightclub until 5.30 in the morning even if you are the parent of a small child? Perhaps, Joey was 'asking for it'? Also, he hasn't got a top on, so therefore he is a 'nutter' and must be to blame?
All we know so far, is that JB was punched in the face (i.e. is the victim) and two men have been arrested (i.e. they are suspected of violence). For those suggesting that it is JB's fault, perhaps you would like to go and live in Iran or Saudi Arabia, Pakistan or Syria of course, where an arbitrary interpretation of the law is commonplace, where women who are raped are found 'guilty' and where the established way of dealing with cases such as JB's would be a kangaroo court. I recommend you study how and why our legal system (still a long way short of being perfect) operates the way that it does and perhaps also read Albert Camus' novel 'The Outsider', which examines how mob mentalities lead to mob justice. Also, maybe a trip to one of those countries mentioned above. Just make sure you don't get a 'reputation' for anything when you are out there or find yourself the victim of an attack.

As I said above, Barton is now a target - even when he's not doing anything - except for being somewhere... If I were him, I'd stop tweeting. Maybe even move abroad for a year or two

Joey's not married Lone and that does look like his girlfriend of 6 years with him in the picture that Eusebio posted, so I dont get that post. If he'd taken his baby with him or left him alone whilst they went out then that would be different. Whats wrong with taking you're girlfriend for a night out?

Ian Taylor's statement was read out on Sky Sports. Said that Barton was walking past the club with his girlfriend when 2 blokes started chanting abusive things about him, then confronted him, then he got punched in the face.

Alfa not really correct, the good (or otherwise) character and behaviour of those involved is fully admissible in court. Just took this from a legal journal used to teach law:- "Under the status quo in most English-speaking jurisdictions, a defendant’s previous convictions cannot be brought up in court until after the jury has given its verdict. This includes Scotland[1], America, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Britain. This is because these countries believe that each case should be evaluated on its own merits, and that ‘knowledge of previous offences would prejudice the outcome of a trial’[2]." Perhaps we're at cross purposes and I dont want this to develop where I am "defending" Joey, because I'm not.

eusebio13, he was found guilty and sentenced to a term in prison which he served. He is entitled to be rehabilitated just as you or I would be, if we were ever found guilty of a crime. Unfortunately, his 'reputation' has led people to target him both on and off the field. This is wrong and is helping nobody. Also, it is ridiculous as Macmoish suggests, that he should stop tweeting or go and live abroad. He is perfectly entitled to 'tweet what he wants' (he has as yet not broken any libel laws) and to continue to live in this country and enjoy the full protection of its laws when he needs them too. It is called Western Civilization and we live in something called a Liberal Democracy, thank God. Scubahoop aka Shami Chakrabarti

Scuba, no one said he was guilty of anything.
However, he clearly cannot keep out of trouble either by his own design or by pure accident. Now we are painfully beginning to fully appreciate why Newcastle let him go for nothing. They just wanted rid of him.

A far better literary reference would be Franz Kafka's 'The Trial'. I love it how you condemn everyone as 'judging' Barton whilst putting across your own judgemental view on everyones posts. Your right though, people shouldn't do it as you might end up looking like a complete hypocrite.

IJ now clarifying that his tweets are in an official capacity, just to make sure people are aware. If only he would use the 'official' twitter, he would find it far easier to avoid confustion. Will he ever get it?

Tweeting Barton saying what happened (or at least from his perspective) Joseph Barton @joey7barton
I got sucker punched in the back of the head. Not injured as reported just a Small bruise on rear of head/ear. I've had worse. Life goes on! Thanks for the concern. Have a good day people.
Can I just say a public thanks to the police last night as they were and have been today brilliant.
Not planning on pressing charges as its not that serious. The police have also got better things to do with their time.
