Exactly get in two quality defenders and a quality striker then worry about midfield . Our midfield would be fine if Barton and SWP stepped it up another notch . Make Ohouha a number one , with Ridgewell or Bassong to follow , cant see us coughing up for Blackburns Samba . Number 1 for me upfront Defoe on loan if not Hooper , we cant afford Zamora and its to risky going for Chamakh or others similar , number ones hes on Africa Nations Duty and misses half the games and i dont no enough about the Rangers Striker , big gamble , we dont want gambles we need experienced and proven not to many loaned youngsters.

dont think its ever good to buy players who have fallen out with their previous manager/club. usually means they have a shite attitude and never perform constantly. lets hope barton can be an exception to that eh. cos he hasnt been yet.

And he wont give two Monkeys if we did go , bonus or no bonus !. Hed better have a better performance tomorrow and so had SWP , i want to see two real performances tomorrow from these , Shaun terrorising their defence like we know he can and Barton helping out Faurlin rather than being a hinderance . If we get any free kicks while Tarbs is on the pitch give them to him , Bartons set pieces are average at best.

Newcastle leading the chase for Ridgewell Published 22:30 20/12/11 By James Nursey -Mirror
. Newcastle are favourites to sign Birmingham star Liam Ridgewell.
The centre-half, who can also play at left-back, is wanted by QPR, Stoke and West Brom, too.
The Magpies had an August bid rejected for the unsettled defender, 27, when he slapped in a transfer request.

Exclusive: QPR line up surprise Bent swoop Published 23:00 20/12/11 By John Cross
Queens Park Rangers are ready to make a shock move for Darren Bent in the January window.
Ambitious QPR chairman Tony Fernandes has the cash to bankroll a move after being alerted to Bent’s fall-out at Aston Villa.
Rangers boss Neil Warnock has made a striker his top priority in the transfer window and Fernandes will back a huge offer for Bent.
Villa publicly denied any rift between Bent and boss Alex McLeish but the England striker was pictured shopping while his team mates were losing at home to Liverpool on Sunday.
Bent, 27, joined Villa in a £24million deal last January and the Midlands club would want close to their money back.
But QPR may sell Adel Taarabt to Paris Saint-Germain in January and Fernandes has the money to make a bold move for a big-name striker.
The west Londoners have been looking at Tottenham’s Jermain Defoe and Roman Pavlyuchenko, Fulham’s Bobby Zamora, West Brom’s Peter Odemwingie and Arsenal misfit Marouane Chamakh.
Defoe is frustrated at Tottenham and needs a strong second half to the season to stand a chance of making England's Euro 2012 squad.Newcastle are also interested in Defoe.
But a potential move for Bent would show even greater ambition by QPR - and prove their determination to stay in the Premier League.
They also want Tottenham defender Sebastien Bassong, and have money to spend to strengthen the squad in every department.

Not a hope in hell that villa would sell their prize asset. And if he was for sale do you honestly think arsenal or Chelsea or Newcastle or spurs wouldn't be in for him. He's a top draw striker and I will piss on my own hand if we sign him!

I can see that Zamora could do the deal for us, but if I am really honest, I just don't like him much. He feels so overrated if you ask me. And for £15m wow, we would be better off to get Jelavic from Rangers and Defoe on loan.

Zamora goal scoring record in the prem is no better than Heidars and Johnson's only slightly better because of his great season with Palace in the prem. You need a Defoe to guarantee 1-3 goal ratio

It won't happen and I've said it earlier in this thread but for two reasons it would make absolute sense to go for Steven Fletcher. Firstly his goal scoring record for Burnley in the Premiership and now Wolves is good (24 goals in 75 matches for BFC and WWFC) and secondly his departure from Wolves would worsen their chances of survival, which helps us in the process. He would cost a fair bit but he's only 24 so much younger than Johnson, Defoe and Zamora.

Fletcher is a very good shout actually.
I like Jelavic. He'd solve our dead ball issues too. If we can get Defoe on the basis that he'd get regular first team football every week and have a chance to score on a regular enough basis to get himself back in England reckoning then that would solve our problem.
I understand Spurs are looking to bring in Podolski, so that may be the catalyst for them deciding to sell Defoe, although they may want to loan him out first considering that they almost certainly won't be able to buy Adebayor at the end of the season. Well, not unless he takes a huge drop in wages anyway.
I think Cahill is going to Chelsea so not sure who Spurs are looking for in CD so they may not want to sell Bassong.
I'd also like to see a player like Darren Ambrose come in. Someone who is unafraid to have a go and take people on, a bit like Pilkington at Norwich.
But, I do think now that if Defoe is Fernandes and Warnock's number 1 priority then they will do everything in their power to make it happen and that the price will be met.

defoe is our only chance of survival. well i did used to think that, but he could score 5 in a match and the other team would get six.
