Celtic to renew interest in QPR's Jay Bothroyd with loan
• Neil Lennon set to offer a loan move to Parkhead
guardian.co.uk
Celtic are set to renew their interest in Jay Bothroyd by offering the forward the chance to move to Glasgow on loan from Queens Park Rangers.
The Celtic manager, Neil Lennon, had hoped to coax Bothroyd north from Cardiff City at the end of last season. Instead, the 29-year-old signed a two-year deal, thought to be worth close to £30,000 a week, at Loftus Road.
Bothroyd has since started only 10 Premier League matches for Neil Warnock's team, scoring two goals in the process. He made a surprise return to the QPR lineup in the loss at Arsenal on New Year's Eve but lasted 64 minutes and was not part of Warnock's squad for the home defeat by Norwich City three days later.
That situation has alerted Celtic, who are keen to add a target-man striker with an aerial presence during the transfer window.
Bothroyd's position at QPR could be further harmed by the signing of forwards this month. Warnock has already taken Manchester United's Federico Macheda on loan and has been linked with a move for Nikica Jelavic of Rangers.

They have been given permission to discuss a short-term deal, and co-owner Tony Fernandes has called Bridge's representative in a bid to get the deal finalised. Collins has been a regular this season, but could be a casualty of Villa's sell-to-buy policy. Warnock is also battling to for versatile defender Onuoha. The 25-year-old will be allowed to leave Eastlands this month after making only two appearances in the Carling Cup for Roberto Mancini this season. Warnock wants the go-ahead to have talks with the former England Under-21 international, who earns around £40,000 a week at City. The QPR boss admires Onuoha's versatility and is keen to use the current transfer window to bring in proven Premier League players. "We will be looking to improve the squad in January," said Warnock. "I know what I need and I will go and get them."

Rumourmille over here, Collins is off as McLeish wants to get young Ciaran Clark playing regularly with Richard Dunne and Carlos Cuellar and of course the sell to buy policy, and Collins has no time for O'Neill/Sunderland as there was a bust up with him and O'Neill just before he left them.

Got to fancy Rodgers Chelsea connection will help swansea Aston Villa are battling Swansea in a scrap to sign Chelsea midfielder Josh McEachran on loan. Villa boss Alex McLeish has launched a bid to take the highly-rated England Under-21 international and could complete a deal after the weekend. McEachran, 18, will be allowed out for first-team experience by Andre Villas-Boas and Villa are keen to borrow him for the rest of the season. McLeish discussed the potential signing with Villas-Boas after Villa's surprise 3-1 win at Stamford Bridge on New Year's Eve. However, former Chelsea coach Brendan Rodgers - who masterminded a 2-0 victory over Villa on Monday - is also in the race to take the teenager. McEachran has made only two substitute appearances in the Premier League this season but is well regarded by the Chelsea coaching staff. www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/transfer-news/Chelsea-transfer-gossip-John-McEachran-wanted-on-loan-by-Aston-Villa-and-Swansea-article849198.html

A.J., Zamora and Alex will do me this window. Not sure Bridge is really the kind of player we are looking for, a has-been mercenary happy to not play on mega money. The guys earned more on the bench than on the pitch at every club he's been at.

www.westlondonsport.com/qpr/qpr-make-their-move-for-man-city-defender/?QPR have tabled a bid for versatile Manchester City defender Nedum Onouha. The Nigerian-born 25-year-old, who can play anywhere across the back four, was earmarked as a January transfer target by Rangers some time ago. And the club have wasted little time in making a formal move for Onouha, who is out of favour at City and has not made a Premier League appearance this season. Onouha, a former England Under-21 international, spent last term on loan at Sunderland. He will make his R’s debut against Newcastle a week on Sunday if a deal can be thrashed out in time. Manager Neil Warnock is determined to add at least one centre-back to his squad as well as a player who can play in a number of defensive positions. Onouha ticks all boxes and QPR also remain interested in Tottenham’s Sebastien Bassong, who they were close to signing on loan during the previous transfer window. Rangers have also spoken to the agent of transfer-listed Chelsea defender Alex. The player is believed to be keen on a move to Loftus Road despite being offered a return to his native Brazil by both Corinthians and Santos.

NOw the Onuoha bids from us and wolves are official, I think who (if either) he choose to go to will say a lot. I really hope we get him but I think he'll go to wolves As for a quality striker, that brings me on to another point I was going to raise. Watching newcastle hammer manure last night the commentators commented on newcastles amazing scouting system. They have found some gems of players. It made me wonder, do we not even HAVE a scouting system? We only seem to be linked to players who cannot make it at other premiership clubs. Why arent we looking for raw talent from lower leagues and abroad? Players like andy johnson , if they are not good enough for the clubs around us why would they be good enough for us? I think we should be looking at the likes of jordan rhodes? scoring a goal is scoring a goal and of couse it would be a massive step up for him but he KNOWS where the goal is and is on fire...i'd say worth a punt...it would be a punt but i'd rather have an up and coming star sign than a past-it premiership reserve player. lets be honest none of the strikers we've been linked to bar bent and defoe are likely to get us more than 5-10 goals in a season. Defoe is 100% out of the picture too now I'd say and no way would we pay £25m for bent. rhodes we could get for £3-4m.

He is only 21 and still learning his trade and it has to be said that it is one thing getting goals in Division 1 but quite another getting them in the Prem. Would be worth a punt though, even if it meant putting him on the bench and introducing him gradually. At 6' 2" he would be a dominating presence up front.

HI gramps, I agree it is a different kettle of fish from league 1 to prem, but he certainly has the makings of a great player and knowing WHERE the goal is is the same in any league. I'd put a wager on him scoring more than andy johnson or zamora would for us I really would. Still at this stage I guess we can't afford to take that gamble and will have to go for experienced premiership players and hope they can find some form. Look at saha for example he should potentially be a great buy but he cant seem to score for love nor money everton, doesnt necessarily mean he couldn't for us I guess.

www1.skysports.com/football/news/11095/7411955/?Skysports.com understands Queens Park Rangers are leading the chase for Fulham striker Andrew Johnson. Johnson's future at Fulham has been the subject of speculation for some time with the player rejecting a new contract earlier this season. The 30-year-old current deal expires in the summer and Fulham are ready to offload Johnson in this month's transfer window rather than risk losing him for nothing. Johnson has scored 11 goals this season, including a hat-trick in the 6-0 win over QPR in October and his form has attracted interest from a host of clubs. Blackburn are thought to be keen on the former Everton man, but QPR are hoping to steal a march on their rivals by luring Johnson to Loftus Road. Rangers boss Neil Warnock has made a new striker one of his top priorities this month as his side have struggled for goals this term. Warnock is desperate to add more firepower to his side as he looks to guide them to safety away from the bottom end of the table and Johnson could fit the bill.

We could well be in a position in two or three years of seeing him as a Premier League star and saying "Oh, if only .............."

Yes, distinct lack of foresight there. A majority of the time we are looking at players 30+ who have limited playing time ahead of them. OK, so with some quality players of that age they can bring something to the club - but not for long as the legs start to go. Ambitious forward planning means looking at young players who show definite promise but need an opportunity to develop. Yes, we will catch a cold with some but stars will also emerge. Our youth programme still, to my mind, leaves much to be desired and until such time as it really starts producing the goods then we need scouts out there looking at promising kids in their early 20s from the lower divisions.
Of course, in the meantime we can always rely on Kieron Dyer who is only 33. Where would we have been without him this season?

Still not sure that Hogan Ephraim has had a fair crack of the whip. We could part up with him for a 'star' signing and regret it in a couple of years time.
