Dann deal not dead perhaps BLACKBURN Rovers are chasing in-demand Blues defender Scott Dann – but they will not get the club’s prized asset on the cheap. Contrary to reports, the Premier League strugglers have not agreed a fee for the 24-year-old but they are hoping to clinch a deal before the transfer window shuts tonight. Dann’s future has been the subject of intense speculation all summer and his expected exit from St Andrew’s is likely to go all the way to the wire as other clubs are still interested. A flurry of other transfer activity involving Blues is also likely to unfold over the course of the day. Strikers Nikola Zigic and Cameron Jerome are on a number of clubs’ radar while Chris Hughton is hoping to strengthen his squad, with Coventry duo Ben Turner and Lucas Jutkiewicz high on his wish list. The chance of Dann moving to one of the Premier League’s big boys appears to be fading fast, though, as Arsenal and Liverpool – clubs who have previously registered an interest – have pursued other options. Stoke also saw a move for the centre-back fall through but have since signed Jonathan Woodgate and Matthew Upson, leaving Blackburn and QPR to battle it out for his signature. However, the drama of transfer deadline-day could throw up more surprises with a number of top-flight clubs battling to hold on to their key performers. Rovers boss Steve Kean has lost Phil Jones this summer to Manchester United and he sees Dann, who the club have bid for, as the ideal replacement. Kean knows all about the Liverpool-born star from his Coventry days when he was assistant manager to Chris Coleman. A move north would suit Dann as he would be based closer to his family on Merseyside but that does not put QPR out of the reckoning.
Neil Warnock is a big admirer of the ex-England Under-21 international and is expected to continue his recent spending spree today.Spanish clubs Real Betis and Espanyol are among those in negotiations for Zigic but it’s the latter who appear more likely to get their man after Manchester City allowed Roque Santa Cruz to join Betis on loan while Fulham, Bolton and Stoke mull over possible bids for Jerome. The battle for new signings will also run throughout the day as other clubs are interested in Blues’ top targets. Forward Jutkiewicz has been the subject of a £1 million bid from promotion-chasing Middlesbrough, although the chance to stay in the area could help swing the 22-year-old’s decision. Cardiff are desperately trying to secure a deal to take centre-back Turner away from the Ricoh Arena despite speculation Birmingham-born 23-year-old is holding out for a move to Blues, the club he supports. And Ridgewell may be on...its gone bonkers
Skysports.com understands Queens Park Rangers are lining up a beat-the-deadline move for Birmingham defender Liam Ridgewell.
Ridgewell is hoping to leave Birmingham and he handed in a transfer request on Tuesday in a bid to force a move away from the club.
Birmingham are reluctant to part with Ridgewell and have turned down his request as they look to keep hold of the former Aston Villa man.
Swansea are believed to have had a loan request for Ridgewell rejected earlier this week as they seek defensive cover after losing Alan Tate to injury.
Celtic, West Brom and Stoke have all been credited with an interest in Ridgewell this summer, but now QPR have entered the race for the player.
The 27-year-old's versatility in that he can play in central defence as well as left-back makes him an attractive proposition to QPR boss Neil Warnock.
Warnock is keen to bolster his squad before Wednesday's deadline and he is hoping to lure Ridgewell to Loftus Road.

Sunderland Echo Sunderland’s Anton Ferdinand in possible £4m deal with Queens Park Rangers ANTON Ferdinand will be allowed to decide his own fate today after Sunderland and Queens Park Rangers agreed a possible £4million move for the defender. Sunderland see it as an excellent bit of business to be able to get back half of the £8m that former manager Roy Keane originally paid for the West Ham centre-half in 2008. Ferdinand is in the last year of his contract and could look to move on for nothing from January so to get back so much money for him at this stage of his contract is an excellent deal for the Black Cats. Ironically, the 26-year-old has played some of the best football of his Sunderland career this season and has won praise for his performances in all the game he has been involved in. But Titus Bramble and Michael Turner will have the edge on him when they are fit again and Sunderland have made no move to offer him a new contract. To newly-promoted QPR, his value is obvious. They would not see £4m as paying over the odds for a young defender approaching his prime with plenty of Premier League experience. The final decision will be Ferdinand’s and today he was still mulling over the offer but sources close to the player believe he will become a QPR player by the end of today. www.sunderlandecho.com/sport/sunderland-afc/chris-young-column/sunderland_s_anton_ferdinand_in_possible_4m_deal_with_queens_park_rangers_1_3727570

Why the excitement over ridgewell? Reckon if they can keep Dann, most blues supporters would drive ridgewell to qpr.
Dann would be great though... Would prefer another solid defender rather than attacker... We'll know soon enough!

I know our wage bill is probably about to treble but have we actually spent big money on transfers yet? Clearly if Crouch comes we'll be much higher than the £10m quoted budget but Fulham are spending £10+ on Ruiz and many clubs will spend £10m+ on 1 or 2 players...just saying we just catching up with a lot of mid table clubs in one fell swoop

PETER CROUCH could kick-start a frantic deadline day of wheeler-dealing as QPR boss Neil Warnock hopes to sign him for £10million. Tottenham striker Peter Crouch, nicknamed “Rodney” after the Only Fools and Horses character in an earlier stint at Loftus Road, did not want to join Sunderland after Steve Bruce bid £10m. And it paves the way for QPR, who train less than half an hour away from Crouch’s Weybridge home where wife Abbey Clancy and their five-month-old daughter Sophia are already settled. A move for Crouch, whose departure Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp admitted was a “possibility” after the loan signing of Emmanuel Adebayor, could free up funds for an improved bid for Gary Cahill after talks began with Bolton yesterday. Sebastien Bassong was initially offered to make up for the lack of cash but Bolton boss Owen Coyle sees Birmingham’s Scott Dann as a potential replacement for Cahill. He will have to be quick as Blackburn have had a £5m bid for Dann accepted. www.express.co.uk/football/view/268297/QPR-bid-10m-for-Peter-Crouch?

In some ways Warnock is now in a weaker position.
Before he was loved by the fans...and the board was hated by (most) fans...But Warnock was probably near resignation/or axing...
Now, he's still loved by the fans...and backed by the board (both with finances and personally)....But obviously, the Board are now also heroes and loved...And if somehow the club was in relegation danger, not so sure the fans would say "Stick with Warnock."
Fans are Fickle...
