I say close it when the loan window is finished What, if any, are the rules regarding loan players in the Championship?

I think the window opens next week and closes near end of November. (Not sure re if we're limited in numbers or if can ran and stack!)

OK, regarding loans, does anyone know just which teams/leagues are eligible to take on loanees? My understanding is that Premier League clubs can't take on new loanees as of the end of the just closed transfer window. That would leave all of the Football League clubs - but what of the top European, Asian, South American leagues or MLS? I'm just thinking some of our remaining 'unfavoured' top earners might still be shunted out to get off the payroll - our squad is pretty big as things stand today. I think the top European Leagues operate the same as the PL. Football League teams can take loans but there are a number of restrictions about how long for etc.
Pity really because I heard Benfica are interested in Traore after he was highly recommended to them by Adel Fat Boy Slim
Haha, yes the Moroccan Muncher was great chums with Traore... shame they didn't bite.

There was a lot of griping when we were last in The Championship as we had 7 loan players on the books.

Not sure how many you can use but it used to be 5 in a match day squad as Fab says. Opens 9 th Sept and closes 25 th November. For a 28 day upto 93 day period max But of course no Overseas players. Only exceptions being anyone can bring in free agents like I think we did with Benayoun last time and I think even Gary O Neil might have been a free agent aswell? Even Prem teams can bring in free agents if they have left one space in there 25. Players like Leon Best etc . Possibly Carlton Cole is still a free agent or did he sign ? The other exception being if you have a goalkeeper crisis you are allowed addition loan even in Prem.

That all looks right Harr. The bit I cannot find out is regarding "free agents". I think a free agent has to have already been free at the close of the window but I'm not sure. It would make sense that way as otherwise for example we could terminate the contract of Traore and he could sign for another club next day. Unfortunately I cannot see us being able to do that even if he had found a taker - our only hope to move him and Hoilett is outside of Europe.

From westlondonsport www.westlondonsport.com/qpr/summer-signing-explains-his-swift-exit-from-qpr?Summer signing explains his swift exit from QPRBy West London Sport 03/09/2015 Oscar Gobern has told Doncasterâs website his limited first-team chances at QPR meant he was keen to leave on loan. The 24-year-old was given a trial by the Râs during the summer after being released by Huddersfield and signed a one-year deal at Loftus Road after impressing. He was signed as a squad player but his chances of getting into the side diminished further as Rangers added to their midfield options. Gobern was therefore loaned to League One club Rovers until January. âI was training at QPR and got a call saying Doncaster were interested and I was excited, asked my agent to make it happen and thankfully he did,â he said. âI went to play and itâs not happened for whatever reason. Iâve come here to improve my game and, in doing so, help the team. âI have to respect the players and the squad that is there (QPR) and how much money theyâve got. âI went there and gave it my best but at this moment in time Iâve come here and want to help Doncaster.â

Fair play for going out on loan, it hasnt happened cos you looked poor in every game you played, friendly or Cup.
Sordell was supposed to be the next best thing few years ago but hardly scored a goal in 3 years. I wouldnt personally but an improvement on Best and he is young I guess. Carlton Cole would probably offer us more.

From the Mirror. I wonder how much truth there is in it? www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/newcastle-launched-transfer-raid-qprs-6389731?Newcastle launched transfer raid for QPR's Charlie Austin on deadline day - and still hope to sign him22:30, 5 SEPTEMBER 2015 BY DEAN JONES The Magpies are understood to have sounded out the relegated Londoners over a ÂŁ10m swap deal including midfielder Rolando Aarons Newcastle made a deadline-day move for Charlie Austin â and hope they could still win the battle to sign him. As it became clear that no club was going to meet Austinâs ÂŁ15m valuation, it is understood the Magpies sounded out QPR over a ÂŁ10m player-exchange deal involving their young midfielder Rolando Aarons. Austin has ended up sticking with Rangers in the Championship. They are now attempting to sign him up to a new contract in order to ensure he does not leave on a free transfer at the end of the season. The Hoops are delighted with the way Austin has conducted himself during a confusing summer though, and chairman Tony Fernandes is willing to show understanding towards his personal ambition during any discussions. Rangers also ended up holding on to winger Matt Phillips, despite serious interest from West Brom. The deal was seemingly dependant on Saido Berahino leaving the Hawthorns and had a knock-on effect.

From the Evening Chronicle - on how Newcastle turned down Charlie ??
"The Chronicle understands that an agent, who claimed to be representing Queens Park Rangers, tried to set up a deal that would have resulted in the teenage winger switching to Loftus Road and Charlie Austin heading the over direction.
The cost of the deal to Newcastle was ÂŁ10million and would have meant the Magpies losing one of their prize assets in the 19-year-old former Bristol City trainee.
The agent, not an employee of either Newcastle or Rangers but said to be working on behalf of the London clubâs director of football Les Ferdinand, also suggested that Austin would be available to United at the end of the window for ÂŁ12million.
But Newcastle turned down both offers and have since stated they are delighted with their work in the transfer window this summer.
Newcastle were not the only club to have reservations over Austinâs original price tag.
Indeed, after QPR had set his valuation at ÂŁ15million earlier in the summer it proved too much of a price for West Ham, Tottenham Hotspur, Norwich City, Leicester City and Bournemouth.
Austinâs contract runs out at the end of the season and if he fails to sign another deal he will be available on a free transfer.
Speaking over the weekend about why he didnât move in the window, Austin said: âI wanted the club to be established. I didnât want the club to be pushed on me.â www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/newcastle-united-turned-down-charlie-9998872

We'll probably never know the full story on Austin and Newcastle, so I don't really worry myself reading about it.
The bottom line is that Austin is still here and Newcastle have got Mitrovic.
At the end of the season we'll know if it was a good decision or not, assuming Newcastle could have had Charlie but chose not to pursue him.

From westlondonsport www.westlondonsport.com/qpr/football-wls-leon-best-updateQPR not planning to sign BestBy West London Sport 07/09/2015 Leon Best will continue to train with QPR for the time being but the club are not planning to sign the striker. Best, 28, is a free agent after his Blackburn contract was terminated by mutual consent this summer. Rangers agreed to a request for Best to train with them, with head coach Chris Ramsey subsequently insisting it would have been âsillyâ not to do so. Best also spent a month on loan with the Râs during the 2004-05 season, making five appearances. He was then a Southampton player and went on to have spells at Coventry and Newcastle before joining Blackburn in 2012. After spending the first half of last season on loan at Derby, where he made 15 substitute appearances in the Championship without scoring, he spent the second half of the campaign on loan at Brighton. He made 13 appearances for the Seagulls, seven of them as a substitute â again without scoring.

A shame about Best. When he was in Southamptons youth side, he and Dexter Blackstock played QPR in the youth cup and ripped our defence to pieces. I was listening to the game "live" and thought we should sign these two. Sadly Dexter got shafted by the Orange Donut and Best never really jumped up the the next level.
