No Ainsworth was a bad appointment, less said about it the better. Positive vibes for next year, hopefully we can finish in the top half of the table after a couple of seasons of stress

Easier said than done though. Critchley couldn’t do it. Ainsworth did even worse at it. Marti delivered it. He had some additions in the window and each and every one of them added something, unlike some of our other January windows
For me all credit to Marti and also the players for believing in him and getting behind him.

I think Hull will smash Plymouth and Leicester beat Blackburn. That means Birmingham still need to beat Norwich, not sure if they can though. Had two chances against the two teams under them to win one of them games and failed twice. I guess really, when you have those two fixtures and don’t get a win, maybe you get what’s coming.

Huddersfield have practically gone now unless they get into double figures
Birmingham slog it out with Plymouth , Sheff Weds and Blackburn on the last day.
1 from 4 to join Rotherham and Huddersfield

I havnt looked on social media to see what abuse GA is getting but I can imagine. Time to move on though and he should never have been Manager as it it nearly cost us but we avoided relegation and now we move on. My only point on this matter is hoping the Club realise appointing him to appease fans at that time was wrong and then after making that mistake to keep him hanging on. When the season ended last year with Ainsworth in charge I was nervous where it was going to go, this year I’m feeling on a high and more optimistic Of better days to come?

32 points from our last 18 matches in 2024 , that ratio equates to 81 points in a season 45 points from the 31 matches he has been in charge , equates to 66 points in a season, this from where we currently were with a demoralised squad.

I hate it when people slag off Ainsworth. He's a club legend as far as I'm concerned and nothing will change that BUT if he had remained in charge, we would have been challenging Rotherham for that bottom spot. I now have a cautious optimism for next season under Marti. COYRs! The biggest mistake the Club made was keeping Ainsworth in charge for so long, those press conferences after each week were demoralising for the Club, Ainsworth, Fans and the Squad to endure. Should have been relieved from his duties much earlier, really hope the Club has learnt from this. We got away with it just on this occasion but it shows you how close it took us to get out of that situation of 8 points from a third of the season. We just about managed it by the skin of our teeth. Marti has been a revelation. But we have to enjoy the moment now, we achieved our goal survival. As far as Ainsworth goes to me personally as a Player , loved the guy , someone I admired for years as footballer. However, I won’t ever be remembering him for being a Manager for our club as he was was totally out of his depth.

Amazing , Marti has been amazing since he took over and the players these last 14-15 games only losing to Boro,Sheff Weds and Hull have really played for him. We have come a million miles since those first 14 games with GA. where we didn’t look like we would get 30 points. Not sure how Marti did it but has worked a miracle and can only thank him and the players for the commitment. Now we can relax tomorrow and next weekend and see who joins Rotherham. Leeds last conceded four 2019 in the football league.

Hull beat Cov Coventry play off dream al but over unless they win all three games and WBA and Norwich don’t get another point. Looking like when we play them they can’t qualify. Meanwhile Hull put put pressure on the other two , Hopefully WBA put in a good performance against Sheff Weds and possibly Norwich still need something at Birmingham if it goes to last game.

No exactly, I won’t panic if we lost to Leeds but if the results go against us Saturday, I will be panicking at 5 PM Saturday

We could do with Blackburn losing at home to Cov as I can’t see them winning at Leicester Likewise Plymouth losing to Millwall as think they may struggle to beat Hull So we have possible favours to ask on these games, as well as Stoke as you say but I think our loss might be bigger than Stokes. We just need Huddersfield to beat Birmingham or WBA to beat Sheff Weds, surely one of these could come in

Thankfully whatever the result Cov v Hull tonight still means WBA will be needing points Saturday for play offs so should be up for the Sheff Weds game
You kind of think that Norwich will be over the line before they play Birmingham last game which is a bit of a shame. If Coventry don’t keep winning our game won’t mean anything to them in terms of play offs for them. Hopefully they will be tired by the time of playing us. Coventry now play 4 matches in 10 days , Weds, Sat, Tues , Sat , ours being the last .
For us Friday , if we can sneak a point amazing but if we lose it’s all about damage limitation, lose by 1-2 goals and not 5.

Just a thought. Leeds are playing tonight and then they come to us on Friday night. Given that they have 2 away matches so close together, could that be an advantage to us? For sure. let’s face it, Blackburn beat Leeds last week so we know we just have to battle and try to sneak a point. if we get a point then Hudds v Birmingham , the only outcome we don’t want is Birmingham win

Post by harr on Apr 22, 2024 10:51:13 GMT
Yes that might happen?
But we have a chance A) Hudds beat Birmingham and B) WBA beat Sheff Weds
No if those don’t happen we need something from Coventry game
Then of course to make it not just a final place space between us Birmingham and Sheff Weds Saturday week , any of Stoke Plymouth or Blackburn losing helps.
Plymouth away at Millwall , they could lost that. Stoke away at Southampton, it’s possible they lose that heavier than we lose to Leeds If Blackburn were to lose at Home to Coventry they have to travel to Leicester next week.
I would rather be in our position than Huddersfield’s, Birminghams, Sheffields , Blackburns and Plymouths We have points on the board.
We may not need any more points, we may need 1 more point or we may need three more points.
It will be a lot clearer by 5 PM SATURDAY

Updated Still any two from seven to join Rotherham, after Sheffield Weds winning Sunday If we don’t get any points Friday. Need A) Huddersfield to beat Birmingham , B) WBA to beat Sheff Weds, either of these happen we will be safe even if we lost to Coventry (Providing we don’t get thumped in both our games) Plymouth , Blackburn and Stoke all losing Saturday would help, as many as these losing Saturday all helps our cause. Hull beating Coventry I feel is better for us, puts more pressure on WBA to get points and kills off Coventry play off interest. Plymouth - Millwall (a), Hull (h) Blackburn - Coventry (h), Leicester (a) Birmingham - Huddersfield (a), Norwich (h) QPR - Leeds (h), Coventry (a) Huddersfield - Birmingham (a), Ipswich (h) Stoke - Southampton (a), Bristol City (h) Sheffield Wednesday - West Brom (h), Sunderland (a

If they draw we still need a point as there goal difference will be better than ours if we lose to Leeds we would need a point off Cov in case Birmingham beat Norwich We want a Huddersfield win and that ends it or a Sheff Weds defeat to WBA, who still need points for play offs

I will be watching the Blackburn game with a Lancashire accent. If they win, it's job done* *Not mathematically, but Sheffield Wednesday's and Huddersfield's goal differences are horrendous. 🙏

That’s 42 points for Martà from 30 games that’s pretty decent added to Ainsworth 8 pts we have 50. Same as what we had last year after 46 games under Beale Critchley and Ainsworth and this year we have two matches to go. Pretty amazing really.

Any two from seven. Millwall now safe.
If Sheff Weds lose tomorrow we should be safe. If they draw or win we may need another point.
If Hudds win next week, that means Hudds won’t catch unless we get two heavy defeats and neither can Birmingham. A draw in that game means Hudds can’t catch us but if we lost to Leeds and Cov , Birmingham beat Norwich and they can pip us on goal difference.
We could do with Huddersfield beating Birmingham as they won’t win at Ipswich.

Sad to see Leighton James Passed yesterday Very good player, RIP Leighton James: Former Wales, Burnley, Swansea and Derby winger dies aged 71 Leighton James, the former Wales winger who played more than 600 games in the Football League, has died at the age of 71. Capped 54 times by Wales, James played 399 games for Burnley in three spells and spent two years at Derby County. James also represented Swansea City, Sunderland, Bury and Newport County in a 19-year playing career before turning to management with several clubs. Burnley and Swansea said they were "saddened" at James' passing. Clarets chairman Alan Pace said: "We are sorry to hear the news of Leighton's passing. "He left an indelible mark on this football club and stories of his playing skills still echo around Turf Moor. "Our thoughts are with his family at this sad time." Swansea said James was "widely-regarded as one of the Swans' finest players". The Welsh club added James "was a key figure in the side that secured a first-ever promotion to the top-flight in 1981, scoring a stunning goal in the victory over Preston North End at Deepdale to complete the club's rise. "He went on to star the following campaign as John Toshack's side took the fight to the elite of English football, eventually finishing sixth in the First Division." Following the end of his playing career, James continued to be involved in football as a media pundit and was renowned for offering robust opinions. James was born on 16 February, 1953 in Loughor in Swansea and began his professional career with Burnley, making his league debut in November 1970 against Nottingham Forest. After five years, 180 appearances for the Clarets and 45 goals, First Division champions Derby County paid a club record fee of ÂŁ300,000 to take James to the Baseball Ground. James moved on to Queens Park Rangers before returning to Burnley, but he was forced to seek fresh pastures again when the Clarets were relegated to the third division. A move home appealed and James joined his local club Swansea City, helping them from the third division to the first in a period where James played some of his best football as part of the meteoric rise under manager John Toshack. Swansea swept from the bottom division to the top division in barely three years and enjoyed landmark wins over Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur. James ended his club career with spells at Sunderland, Bury and Newport County before returning in 1986 to Burnley for a third spell, finally retiring in 1989. Before Ryan Giggs and Gareth Bale, James was the left winger who would get club and international fans pulses racing. Less than a year after making his Burnley bow and still a teenager, his first senior cap for Wales came in their 1-0 defeat away to Czechoslovakia. James never played in a major tournament for Wales, but he did play his part in some famous victories. His penalty secured a famous win over England at Wembley in the British Home Championships, but arguably his best international display came when he scored and generally dazzled in Wales' 4-1 victory over England at Wrexham in 1980. James scored 10 times for Wales, making his last appearance in 1983. After his playing career James went on to manage a number of non-league clubs in England and Wales, the most high-profile being Accrington Stanley in 1997-1998. In Wales he has managed Llanelli, Aberaman and Haverfordwest County. James also became well known in Wales after his playing days for some of his forthright views expressed as a radio pundit and newspaper columnist. That was best illustrated in 2006 when James had an explosive on-air argument with Robbie Savage over Savage's decision to retire from international football. James also worked as a lollipop man at Penyrheol Primary School in Swansea, but suffered a stroke in 2014. Swansea's players will wear black armbands as they pay respects to James at Huddersfield on Saturday, 20 April, as will their under-21s as they host Bristol City on the same day. Likewise Burnley's players will do so in the Premier League at Sheffield United. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/51960881

I guess it’s probably our biggest game Saturday for quite some seasons. Lose it probably means with Leeds and Coventry to follow we will be a favourite to go down if the others pick up wins at the weekend.

Yeah we need something Saturday, minimum point hopefully three but something. I just hope the two Plymouth points dropped don’t haunt our season, the other game that hurts is 86 minutes 1 up at Sheff Weds and lost in 86 and 90+4 Small margins
