I hate it when people slag off Ainsworth. He's a club legend as far as I'm concerned and nothing will change that BUT if he had remained in charge, we would have been challenging Rotherham for that bottom spot. I now have a cautious optimism for next season under Marti.
COYRs!

The biggest mistake the Club made was keeping Ainsworth in charge for so long, those press conferences after each week were demoralising for the Club, Ainsworth, Fans and the Squad to endure. Should have been relieved from his duties much earlier, really hope the Club has learnt from this. We got away with it just on this occasion but it shows you how close it took us to get out of that situation of 8 points from a third of the season. We just about managed it by the skin of our teeth. Marti has been a revelation. But we have to enjoy the moment now, we achieved our goal survival. As far as Ainsworth goes to me personally as a Player , loved the guy , someone I admired for years as footballer. However, I won’t ever be remembering him for being a Manager for our club as he was was totally out of his depth.

I havnt looked on social media to see what abuse GA is getting but I can imagine. Time to move on though and he should never have been Manager as it it nearly cost us but we avoided relegation and now we move on. My only point on this matter is hoping the Club realise appointing him to appease fans at that time was wrong and then after making that mistake to keep him hanging on. When the season ended last year with Ainsworth in charge I was nervous where it was going to go, this year I’m feeling on a high and more optimistic Of better days to come?

I now have a cautious optimism for next season under Marti. COYRs! Ainsworth may have been a club legend as a player (which I put down more to character and effort than outstanding ability) and deserves credit for that and it will not change. But as a manager for us he was not just poor but he was C**p and must accept the rough with the smooth - that's life. I also blame Amit for leaving him in the job after last season. We have seen what happened this season and Ainsworth can only be a legend as our manager for completely the wrong reason. Good players do not always make good managers. While we are talking about slagging people off I have been a supporter of Begovic while others have slagged him off recently for a couple of bad mistakes but in our last 2 key games he has put in performances and saves that have kept us up so I hope some will back off slagging him now. On the other side I have been highly critical of Dykes but when it came down to the crunch he has scored the 2 most crucial goals of our season. Obviously the winner against Preston and the third last night that really sealed the win. Even at 2-0 there was always a chance of Leeds scoring a couple of quick late goals as they have done several times this season. So maybe I was wrong about Dykes - it could just be a flash in the pan but it could also be that Marti has worked out the best way to play him, motivate him, and provide the right feed to him. Those 2 goals came because he was there in the thick of things as a striker should be much as when he plays for Scotland. Maybe with the right players and system around him he can become a more prolific scorer next season and I will be the first to say I was wrong. Now we can sit back and watch the fight below us. My first wish is that we can win 3 in a row and somehow stay ahead of Millwall - pity they are safe. Then it comes down to which 2 would I like to see go down. At one stage I would have said Sheff. Wed. because they have been so poor but give them credit for recovering not quite as much as us but I would say. they deserve to stay up. That leaves Stoke Blackburn Plymouth Brum and Huddersfield. Difficult choice but I just do not like Stoke so they can go and Birmingham deserve to drop after the way they have treated a number of their managers and the fans recently. Anyway that is all secondary. Marti and the players and fans have done a brilliant job and given us hope for next season so time to raise a glass and say well done and enjoy our summer - and wait for the transfer speculation to start.

So, to get a tense and exciting end to the season (as far as relegation is concerned), here are my hopeful predictions for today:
Blackburn 0-2 Coventry Huddersfield 1-1 Birmingham Millwall 3-1 Plymouth (sorry) Sheffield Wednesday 0-3 West Brom Southampton 5-0 Stoke*
*I hate Stoke more than Millwall and would love to see them go down.

The Sheffield Wednesday debate is a curious one. I had wanted them to get out of trouble because they had done so well to recover and their manager is a real star. But what posters who cannot make it to Loftus Road probably do not know, is that when Sheffield scored their two goals, they decided to go and celebrate in front of the Loftus Road end. The first celebration was way over the top and they were goading our idiots, who were keen to oblige. But when they scored their second, some of their antics should have been carded by the ref - especially Bannon. As a consequence, many of the QPR support want them to play the price for that - it really was OTT and angered the most placid of people around me. I also think that if they lose their manager, and with such an aging squad, they may well be next season's Rotherham if they stay up. But I wonder what odds you could have got at the start of the season on 3 Yorkshire clubs going down, and no Yorkshire club winning promotion?

Looking at the other end of the table who would we want to get promoted. Leicester obviously there and face an immediate points deduction from the PL.
Ipswich should make it. That could set a record for the clubs promoted to the Championship last season if they go up while Rotherham and Plymouth could go down.
Leeds I put in the same class as Stoke so they can lose in the play-offs. I will never forgive Norwich for their 3-2 win that cost us the (old) First Division title. So that leaves Southampton WBA and possibly Hull to go up. Who would we least like to play against next season ? Maybe Hull so let hem go up for one season, Southampton will need to sell or hit FFP problems and WBA will have to rebuild.

Huddersfield have practically gone now unless they get into double figures
Birmingham slog it out with Plymouth , Sheff Weds and Blackburn on the last day.
1 from 4 to join Rotherham and Huddersfield

Well, I got the Hudd/Brum score right, the Millwall/Plymouth result and the Sheff Wed/WBA score the wrong way around. Blackburn 0-0 Coventry Huddersfield 1-1 Birmingham Millwall 1-0 Plymouth (sorry) Sheffield Wednesday 3-0 West Brom Southampton 0-1 Stoke Huddersfield effectively down so 1 from 4 for the last relegation spot. Probably between Plymouth and Birmingham.

Just looked at the play-offs. West Brom have lost their last 3 games. hull could join them on 72 points if they beat Ipswich tonight. Hope they do as it will mean that a promotion, play-off & relegation place will all be decided on the last day.

Hope they do as it will mean that a promotion, play-off & relegation place will all be decided on the last day. Your wish has been granted - regardless of what Ipswich do at Coventry all the final promotion play off and relegation places will all be decided on Saturday. Will Ipswich keep their nerve and get the 4 points from 2 games to guarantee promotion.? Will Leeds hold their nerve if they have the chance to stay in the top 2.? Either way whoever misses out will still be in the play-offs and Hull can still scrape in there depending on results on Saturday. At the bottom it is one from four to go down. Of the four I want it to be Brum but I can see Sheffield Wed picking up a point at Sunderland while Plymouth and Brum both win at home and Blackburn losing at Leicester and taking the last relegation spot. We will see - all down to the last kick of the season and then maybe goal difference

I think Hull will smash Plymouth and Leicester beat Blackburn. That means Birmingham still need to beat Norwich, not sure if they can though. Had two chances against the two teams under them to win one of them games and failed twice. I guess really, when you have those two fixtures and don’t get a win, maybe you get what’s coming.

It's all kicking off now. As it stands Ipswich are up Brum and Huddersfield down but one goal somewhere can change all that.

Birmingham Relegated Ipswich Promoted West Brom & Norwich confirmed for the Play-Offs
Looking forward to some late drama!

Great that Brum have gone - Exactly what they deserve after the wait they have treated managers including sacking when on the verge of a play-off position.
Pity we let in the late goal to be overtaken by Stoke on goals while Swansea missed a penalty then lost to Millwall. So we finish a couple of places below what could have been but more importantly we finished with 3 wins , one goal conceded and 7 scored - hope for next season.
The play-offs could be an anti climax no one seems to be on an upward trend - maybe Southampton would be my choice to make it up. On the one hand I have no desire to see Leeds again next season but on the other hand I would really like to see them blow it and stay down.

"His exit means Huddersfield are now looking for a sixth permanent manager since Carlos Corberan left in July 2022." What a mess! How about just before their final game: "I heard about the really poor pre-season where players trained once a day and the focus was on playing golf and maybe staying in the pub," he told BBC Radio Leeds. "This never leads to success. "They did not train enough to be able to play over 90 minutes - this is what I heard from many, many people around the club."

Very strange as Warnock was their manager for pre-season. So on the one hand I find the comments very hard to believe but as we all know Warnock's strength was team building and man management which is why he has been so successful in going into clubs in trouble with 10 games to go and getting the team together and out of trouble rather than building on fitness. We will never know but the lesson here is that 2 of the 3 relegated clubs this season have had more managers in the last 2 seasons than I have had hot baths (just a saying) Huddersfield were in the 2022 Championship play off final - 2 seasons and 6 managers later kick off next season in League One Brum twice in recent years have sacked well respected managers when they were in play-off positions and each time plummeted. They have continued to rotate managers and kick off next season in League One. There is a lesson in there and if it were not for Marti coming in to steady the ship it would have been us. Just hope the club and some of our fans have learnt the lesson
