Although it provides cover for Dykes - who could be out for some time, it states where we are as a club nowadays - and it is pretty sad. Presumably, he had most of his contract paid off by Bristoi City, so is not costing us big money in wages, but we will have to pay him for an extra 6 weeks until the end of Jume. So at say £5k per week, will cost us £100k. If he scores some goals for us, then it is all about getting through to the Summer, but I fear that it may well be a total waste of £100k on a player that I always thought of a a thug, with zero mobility. Keeping the faith through gritted teeth.

I'm a little less negative - which for me is a feat! Agree we shouldnt be at this point. But we are. And I'm concerned at how we're just tumbling...
The question for me is whether I'd rather face the next 3 months with Martin or without. (Not whether wish had someone better; or if we were actually developing players or buying young, etc)

He can hold the ball up and bring in other players to the game as well as score goals. He gort 12 in a por Brizzle team last year. Dykes win headers (Most of which never helped us and never holds the the ball up) I think this signing gives us something else.

I would imagine this is Charlie’s take in it. Dear Chas, you didn't give a crap when you were last with us, you didnt train, you wanted to be on talksport more than you wanted to play. You will always be one of my favourites but your time has come, look forward an enjoy your future as a talksport pundit and preserve the happy memories QR fans have of you.

Sorry folks but Charlie Austin taking the p*** for us signing a player who is only 8 months older than Charlie, fitter and wants to play instead of being on Radio - we did not keep you , get over it, shut up and get back to Swindon.
The truth is Dykes obviously had a bad illness and it could be a couple of months at least before he can play again. Roberts is out for who knows how long and when he gets back will probably only last game or 2. So we are stuffed for strikers, the window is closed, we needed a cheap experienced striker (not a gamble on an out of work young one). We needed someone quickly and our only option was out of contract players.
So beggars cannot be choosers and we signed Martin. He is not everyones favourite and his style is not what we want long term but when our fans and managers have been moaning about lack of commitment and effort, those are exactly the things Martin will bring and I doubt he will tolerate those around him not doing the same.
For those complaining name a better available affordable out of contract striker. The only one I saw is a Dutch ex Brighton man with a scoring record to match Dykes, only a couple of years younger than Martin and expecting PL wages.

He might be the person that scores half a dozen goals to keep us in the division so needs must and if he scores against Millwall my likening to him will grow by the minute.

In terms of talent, this is a signing 10 years too late.
However, I suspect it's a similar signing to the Balogun one, bringing in an older experienced head who can provide some direction and a good example to a group of talented players who lack real on pitch leadership.
Let's see how it goes, as it surely can't make things much worse than they already are. Right??

No can’t get any worse but sad thing is Martin won’t stop us conceding, soft as putty our defence.
