You are correct about the training / rehabilitation. But of course, QPR did not have to give him a free holiday in Austria (I wonder if we paid for his early flight home?). That suggests that we were keen to sign him if he could prove his fitness pre-season - and that he had indicated that he was happy to stay for a further year. Then Micky Beale gets an injury and comes calling.... and there goes Leon! Don't think the club has been soft on this one. The club would have taken stick if his contract had been extended without first proving his fitness. But Beale has struck again in his attempts to become QPR public enemy number one. We seem to be inked with a number of defenders now that before the defection was not the case. So Gareth has been let down....again. I think. the point here is about timing. Yes we had to carry on his rehab but by the time the players came back for pre-season his rehab was complete from what I have seen , he was fit and training and taken to Austria as we wanted to keep him. But as Ricky said Beale comes knocking and we lose another one. As I said before that puts Balogan in the same boat as Beale in terms of loyalty and probably honesty as well - was he already tapped up by Beale before he left for Austria? Anyway we move on and look for someone else. Question is what do we need - experienced short contract player or bright, up and coming but unproven. Hopefully nit injury prone and not a loan. Second question is if Gareth was let down , who by. Balogan or the missing DOF not getting him to sign? Personally, I’m glad we didn’t sign him. I guess we could have left him in London to carry on his rehab, but it is what is. All consigned to the history books now.

Anyone know how much we are to receive from FIFA for players at the World Cup. FIFA are paying over $10k per day per player of the number of days the player was at the World Cup regardless of time spent on the pitch.
So with Dieng and Chair both there we we should be getting close to $22k per day for part of the tournament. I have not been able to find a breakdown by club other than usual headlines about Man City receiving more from FIFA than any other club - multi millions as if they need it. Pity Scotland did not make it with Dykes. Money for nothing as Dire Straits once sang.

To answer my own question just found it - we receive close to GBP400k - not sure if we have the money yet or not. Apparently FIFA pay for 14 days before the opening game until the country is eliminated so we got more for Chair sitting on the bench than we got for Dieng doing the same. Of course I wonder if the EFL allow this income to count towards our FFP limit as it is an "extraordinary " one time event.

Oh well Begovic is having a medical so as long as he passes we will at least have a new goalkeeper, experienced as well. Long medical? Possible Failed medical? Possible Still agreeing terms? Unlikely Another club made him an offer? Possible Slow due to Austrian tour? It would be good to hear of at least one signing - keeper and striker being the first 2 I want to see before the season starts and before we get into the loan market.

I keep telling myself patience is a virtue, silence is golden and it will be alright on the night. Plus it saves paying to fly them out to join the squad for the weekend.

Begovic today apparently. Plus Wing We still need a right back, centre half, central midfield and striker - but Gareth said on Saturday two or three. Will the rest be loans (if any)? We have lost: Dieng, Iroegbunam, Roberts, Johansen, Lowe, Dickie, Mahoney, Amos, Martin, Balogun, Owens, Shodipo, Masterson plus Bonne, Bettache & Thomas (January). With today's 2 makes 4 in. I guess he is managing expectations, but he needs quite a few more.

If money is that tight Ainsworth will go for a CB and maybe right back. Upfront I can see him relying on Dykes with Smyth and Armstrong plus if we keep Willock and Chair rely on midfielders pushing up in support especially if we have signed Wing. Dangerous gamble but it is what it is and I expect we will players having to play out of position and the development players getting decent game time - wait for Uncle Albert to be seen at right back ,wing back, winger or behind Dykes or more likely all 4 at different times. Will the now distant rumours and player tweets about Iroegbunam coming back on loan come true under the radar, maybe a last minute deal at the right price I think Ainsworth's priority will be to strengthen his "no nonsense" back four but I am struggling to come up with names for CB and RB. Maybe he can train Drewe or Kakay to kick it into the stands.

We just need 10 players plus a keeper. Shouldn't be too hard. Oh plus subs. Crikey, we better get moving.
