Very worrying news for those on board, their friends and relatives and Tony Fernandes and all at Air Asia From the Guardian www.theguardian.com/world/2014/dec/28/indonesia-to-singapore-airasia-flight-loses-contact-with-air-traffic-control AirAsia flight loses contact with air traffic control Flight QZ 8501 from city of Surabaya has lost contact with air traffic control, Indonesian media say Staff and agencies Sunday 28 December 2014 15.25 AEST An AirAsia flight from the Indonesian city of Surabaya to Singapore has lost contact with air traffic control. Transport ministry official Hadi Mustofa told Indonesian media the aircraft, flight number QZ 8501, lost contact with the Jakarta air traffic control tower at 6.17am local time (2317 GMT). The aircraft was said to be an Airbus 320-200 with 155 people on board. Indonesian media said 149 Indonesians, three people from Korea, and one from Singapore, Britain and Malaysia were on board. Mustofa said the plane had asked for an unusual route before it lost contact. AirAsia released a statement confirming the plane was missing. It said: “AirAsia Indonesia regrets to confirm that flight QZ8501 from Surabaya to Singapore has lost contact with air traffic control at 07.24hrs this morning. “At the present time we unfortunately have no further information regarding the status of the passengers and crew members on board, but we will keep all parties informed as more information becomes available. “The aircraft was an Airbus A320-200 with the registration number PK-AXC. “At this time, search and rescue operations are in progress and AirAsia is co-operating fully and assisting the rescue service. “AirAsia has established an Emergency Call Centre that is available for family or friends of those who may have been on board the aircraft. More from CNN edition.cnn.com/2014/12/27/world/asia/airasia-missing-plane/index.html AirAsia plane loses contact with air traffic control in Indonesia By Jethro Mullen, CNN December 28, 2014 -- Updated 0454 GMT (1254 HKT) STORY HIGHLIGHTS NEW: Heavy thunderstorms were in the region, a CNN meteorologist says 155 people were on board the flight, Reuters reports AirAsia Flight 8501 lost contact with air traffic control on Sunday morning It was on its way from the Indonesian city of Surabaya to Singapore (CNN) -- The search is on for AirAsia Flight 8501, which lost contact with air traffic control in Indonesia, the airline said Sunday. Flight QZ 8501 from the Indonesian city of Surabaya to Singapore lost contact with air traffic control at 7:24 a.m. Sunday (7:24 p.m. Saturday ET), AirAsia said "At the present time we unfortunately have no further information regarding the status of the passengers and crew members on board, but we will keep all parties informed as more information becomes available," AirAsia said in a statement. The plane took off with 155 passengers and crew on board, the news agency Reuters reported, citing Indonesian transport officials. The flight, an Airbus A320-200, was on its way from Surabaya in Indonesia to Singapore, according to the airline's website. The plane left Juanda International Airport at 5:27 a.m. Sunday (5:27 p.m. Saturday ET) and was due to arrive in Singapore at 8:37 a.m. Sunday (7:37 p.m. ET), according to the website. Bad weather might have been a factor in the plane's disappearance, CNN meteorologist Derek Van Dam said. "We still had lines of very heavy thunderstorms" when the plane was flying, Van Dam said. "But keep in mind, turbulence doesn't necessarily bring down airplanes." AirAsia is a Malaysia-based airline that is popular in the region as a budget carrier. It has about 100 destinations, with subsidiaries in several Asian countries. The airline has a "very good" reputation for safety, CNN aviation correspondent Richard Quest said. The loss of contact with the AirAsia plane comes nearly 10 months after the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, which dropped off radar over Southeast Asia on March 8. Searchers are yet to find any debris from Flight 370, which officials believe crashed in the southern Indian Ocean.

It's definitely going to have terrible effect on everyone at QPR, and you raise good suggestion. But Wonder if we even have shirts with Players names which arent Air Asia.
There was already a minute Applause scheduled for the game for all those who have died in 2014 re QPR. (Think should change that to Minute of Silence)

From Australia's ABC
A search and rescue operation for an Air Asia flight that went missing en route to Singapore from Indonesia with 162 people on board has been halted for the day.
Rescuers scouring the Java Sea for missing AirAsia flight QZ8501 with 162 passengers on board halted their search at nightfall on Sunday, Indonesia's transport ministry said. "We ended at 5:30pm (local time) because it was getting dark. The weather was also not too good as it was getting really cloudy," transport ministry official Hadi Mustofa told news agency AFP. "Tomorrow we will begin at 7:00am, or even earlier than that if the weather is good," he added.

What is going on with these planes? Just disappearing etc. Fingers crossed but the gut feeling is that there is bad news coming. I hope and pray that some if not all have survived.
I know someone whom has travelled Air Asia and they told me for a budget airline, they are very good which is nice to hear.

At least the families involved will be able to have some minor form of closure unlike Flight 370. Gonna be interesting what comes from the information on the black boxes.

Yeah read that. Could be an updraft followed by a down one. Flying through a thunderstorm does make that highly possible.

If this indeed proven can they not be proscecuted for Corporate Manslaughter ,if this happens it could cost them millions in compensation ,and maybe could having their permits being revoked ,i bet Fernandes is hoping this is not true ,because the possibity of it I would think is frightening , anyway have to wait and see what happens and what the Indonesian Minister has to say on Monday
