And London 24 www.london24.com/sport/football/clubs/qpr/redknapp_rues_di_maria_s_fluke_after_qpr_thumped_by_manchester_united_1_3769736Redknapp rues Di Maria’s fluke after QPR thumped by Manchester United 19:29 14 September 2014 Tom Moore at Old Trafford Manchester United Manchester United's Angel Di Maria scored a fluke goal against Queens Park Rangers. Picture: Martin Rickett/PA Wire Harry Redknapp rued Angel Di Maria’s freak opener for Manchester United after his QPR side were well beaten. Related articles Ferdinand suffers nightmare return to Manchester United as QPR thumped The Red Devils might have had plenty of possession but lacked the cutting edge to penetrate QPR until they received a moment of fortune midway through the first half. Clint Hill fouled Ander Herrera and Di Maria flighted home a free kick from 25 yards, although his intention was to put a cross in towards the far post on 24 minutes. “Things were going along nicely for us [in the first 25 minutes],” Redknapp said. “I was sitting there and thinking I’ve been to Old Trafford and been smashed after 25 minutes. “I thought they’d not really had a shot yet and then a needless free kick. A cross that ends up going in the goal. “It was a cross, aimed at the far post and found it’s way into the far corner.” United then found their top gear with tHerrera doubling the lead after great work by Di Maria and Wayne Rooney with nine minutes remaining in the first half. The England captain then fired home just before half-time to kill the game as a contest with 45 minutes to go. And Redknapp admitted that the final 10 minutes of the first half were what cost his side any chance of a result. He added: “With 10minutes to half time, I thought we were going to go in 1-0 down and you’re in the game. “Our keeper hasn’t had a shot to save. He picked the ball out of the net after a needless free kick we gave away and it was a cross that found the far corner. “Two goals before half time killed us off.” He added: “I didn’t think they were great goals. The Rooney shot was okay and found it’s way into the back of the net somehow. “We had a great chance at 1-0 with Matty Phillips – he should have scored. “I think they had four shots and scored three goals. It wasn’t as if our keeper was diving around getting a man of the match award – he didn’t have a shot to save.” QPR tried to keep it tight in the second half and nearly pulled a goal back through Niko Kranjcar but Juan Mata made it four and Radamel Falcao came off the bench and nearly added a fifth that would have compounded a miserable day for QPR. Redknapp explained: “You don’t go out and attack them and try and win 4-3, especially at places like this. “We had a great chance just after half-time through Kranjcar with the keeper saving with his legs. “They’ve got some fantastic forward players. “Next week will be different for them, whether they can cope with Chelsea’s forwards. We just didn’t have that cutting edge up front to cause them problems.” Redknapp believes that will be a tough season for his side and believes that things will get better in time as the players get up to speed with his demands. “It’s going to be a tough season but I think we’ll be okay,” he added. “We’re just lacking that cutting edge. I put [Eduardo] Vargas on to see what he could do. “We loaned him and he’s been away. One or two of my players are trying to get their fitness. “[Leroy] Fer spent two weeks away with Holland, not played a game – being used as a cone all week. He lacks fitness. If we can get him fit he’ll be a real asset. “Sandro ended up with cramp because he hasn’t played. We need to get one or two of them up to speed and playing. If we can do that we’ve got a great chance.” Elsewhere, Clint Hill confirmed to London24 that he was withdrawn at half-time with a thigh problem.

Not sure that United back 4 is all that . Wouldnt be surprised if they drop some points at home this year to some lower teams . When they do I will bump this . To say we have unfit players is boring me . Islas was his third game . Same for Fer . Vargas I would understand but who else would he say is unfit ? Sandros I suppose for getting cramp , jeeze !
Taarabt didnt start so want him . Thought it might be the game to give him a few minutes playing time .

Ok, just coming back from injury, but still. Need to put this behind us and focus on trying to get 3 needed points against Stoke.

"We lack a bit of cutting edge up front " Harrys quote . Can see this being an excuse on a regular basis upto January . Remy not being replaced was massive .
Maybe start giving Taarabt a try up front see what his cutting edge is like ? Still unfit ?
So far not put one goal past Hull,Spurs and Utd but let in nine, early days but starting to concern me . Our goal diff at such an early stage not looking grand.
We need that cutting edge soon , surely can come from Austin and Vargas, dont see it coming from Phillips. His chances to goal ratio wont be good enough in the Prem I feel ?

I actually thought we played pretty well.
Lucky first goal and Green should have saved the third.
Phillips scores his chance at 0-1 who knows what would have happened?
Massive improvement on Tottenham away IMO.

Massive improvement on Tottenham away IMO. Phillips takes his chamce against Spurs ? Austin scores his Pen against Hull? Phillips scores against Utd ? Yes we did play better than Spurs agree there but you can not have a season of IF's ? They could all have changed the context of the game yes but so could have the other 5 chances Utd had . Of course Stoke , West Ham , Southampton and Villa will be more important games but doesnt come away from the fact you can take points off the top teams if you are prepared. Will be interested to see how Leicester do against Utd this weekend ? I know Man U had a stronger tesm when we played them but Swansea,Sunderland and Burnley all took points off them . Anyhow I wiont panic just yet four games in but our firepower up front will need to up the ante very soon . Move onto Stoke and hopefully a more dogged performance with at least a point .

Yes, it's fine to console ourselves with ifs after a 4-0 defeat, we need cheering up, but Redknapp & Co can't afford to be anything other than realistic. If our 4-0 defeats had been wins, and Fernandes sacked Redknapp on the basis that Spurs and United were unlucky, who would buy that?
We were stuffed by Wolves 4-0 at Molineux in 1983, but finished top, 10 points ahead of them. Then we stuffed them 4-0 up there the following season.
If it is all coming together, and the outcome is impressive, we might be persuaded that our questionable start was just one of those things.
We can wait for as long as it takes, supporters have all the time in the world, but Harry hasn't.
Be lucky, mate.

Despite United'd shaky start, with their new influx of talent, it was never realistically a game we were going to get anything out of.
I'm not convinced about Niko - once Sandro and Vargas get up to speed and with Barton and Mutch are back from injury, we should see a different picture.
Traore did enough to deserve a start against Stoke.
Disappointed, but not down-hearted.

What the fck have the Hungarians got to do with it? If once, could have been a typo. But twice? I guess TF didn't fully learn to spell in England (unless someone else is using the twitter feed)

Wikipedia says JJ is completing his rehabilitation with us even though his contract has expired. These sour grapes suggest he has now left

Jenas was apparently hopeful of a contract from jan with us after proving his fitness. I guess with Sandros and krancjar coming in on top of mutch and fer he has realised that's unlikely to happen.

I really cant understand what these people are saying, Its taken me two days to even come to my computer, as I'm still really angry that a manager of HR standards that can let our team play the way they did against a Man Utd team that are really not that good at the moment. You could see from the start, when we started running away from the ball when they attacked, we went further and further back and it was a slippery slope to climb back from. When we had the ball, they attacked us straight away until we soon lost possession and that is how we should have played, we done it against Sunderland and it worked, chase the ball and win it back.
As for players, I thought that all of the goals could have been saved if we had a proper premiership goalkeeper, Mr Green should have put a Man Utd top on, he was absolutely rubbish, we need a goalkeeper that sometimes comes off his line to attack the ball and not someone who stands there and waits for the ball to hit the back of the net. My Rant over... Stoke next...

Spot on in everything you say ,all the goals were conceded by mistakes ,non effort ,no desire players not knowing where they are supposed to be playing ,Sunday looked like a of players thrown together ,not like a team at all ,nothing like the Sunderland performance whatsoever ,IMO we ere up against it from the start playing hill at lb ,then when utd scored we went deeper and deeper handing all the possession and space to the opposition who thrived on it ,the thing that annoys me is this utd team is not that brilliant and I would have liked to have seen us at least have a go at them ,but no we just tried defending ,in don't mind losing but I would prefer us to to lose with at least showing some effort and commitment ,anyway there are a lot more hurdles to come for this current utd side and I think they are going to be really tested by some of the bigger teams ,and also some of the smaller teams who at least have the balls to give them a game ,which sadly we did not do on Sunday ,rant over also
