I would have thought West Brom have first dibs on him, Rory. Haven't seen any players linked to us from my usual sources so not Verm confident on Foster yet. Don't see why WBA would have first dibs, he was only loaned there because Birmingham expected to come straight back up. Especially now Hodgson has left WBA I find i quite unlikely he will go there. Now Martinez looks set to go to Liverpool would it be worth putting in a bid for Al-Habsi??? I think Butland would be a great signing for the club but don't think we could compete with the likes of Man Utd who also want him. Personally I want Sven Ulreich but that will never happen.

Only that he has already played a season there and may have liked it enough to make it permanent.
The lack of a manager at West Brom may be a deterrent at the moment but I expect they'll fill the position very soon.

There was an interview with Foster recently about how much he loved working under Hodgson so maybe that was the only reason he went to WBA??

If MH goes in for him then I trust MH knows what he is buying . It was not that long ago that people on here were suggesting we go in for young hungry unknown players , Butland fits into that category .

Arsenal, Spurs and QPR ready to battle for free agent Del Piero
By talkSPORT | Friday, May 25, 2012
Arsenal, Tottenham and QPR will battle it out to sign Alessandro Del Piero after the Italian legend revealed he is ready to play abroad and start a final chapter in his career.
Del Piero, 37, has enjoyed a memorable 18-year spell with Juventus, winning every major trophy in Italy and Europe, but will become a free agent during the summer after the club opted against renewing his contract which expires in June. There are no shortage of clubs who want to sign the experienced forward and he will make a decision in the next few weeks on where he wants to finish his illustrious career. Del Piero said: "I've not chosen any path yet, but I'm looking for the best solution for myself and my family. I'm looking for something stimulating. The choice of League is not important. "Obviously my future will not be in Italy with another club. That is something that is not in my plans. I'll certainly move abroad. "I'm living amongst the clouds right now. I still don't realise what has happened, but I know that I have always given my all in everything which I have done. "Winning the Scudetto was the greatest sensation for me and you all know how much I like to win. I'll remember this difficult season with great joy because it was tremendously beautiful."

I think we need wingers that can cross a football, Traore is possibly the best we have in the squad at this; "pure wide play" but I think there are question marks about other aspects of his game / where to play him etc. A centre back ( Kaspars Gorkks is good ) If Mark Hughes thinks we need a goalkeeper then I go along with that as long as its not Robert Green. I think we need to do some good business in Europe & beyond & not get stuck with the overpriced English crap that we ended up with last season. Adam Johnson on loan for a year ?! Why not ?! Man City owe us a favour & then some! trouble is these days your required to have 8 in nation trained players i.e. player who spent 3 years before their 21st birthday at an English club.

who the hell is BUTTland? neer heard of this bloke, a reserve keeper at a championship club for 6mil!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! get out of it hahahahahhaha Well he's just got called up for England to replace Ruddy in the Euros www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/may/25/jack-butland-euro-2012-birmingham?newsfeed=trueIs it a dire reflection on the quality of senior English goalkeepers or a testimony to Jack Butland's extraordinary potential? The 19-year-old's shock summons to Euro 2012 has divided opinion but the answer, most probably, is a bit of both. A product of Birmingham City's academy, the 6ft 4in Bristolian spent most of the past season at League Two Cheltenham during the course of two loan spells. For an outfield player with no senior appearances for his parent Championship club and a total of only 24 in the bottom division, promotion to Roy Hodgson's England squad would be unthinkable. Goalkeepers, though, have always been a bit different – and Premier League first teams currently boast a mere handful of English-born ones. Very much on the Football Association's fast-track after representing England at most youth levels, including Under-21 – at which he has six caps – Butland was on standby as cover for Joe Hart, Rob Green and John Ruddy. The latter's broken finger, which has put him out of Euro 2012 having been a surprise call-up in the first place, also represents a blow to Stuart Pearce, who had pencilled Butland into his GB Olympic squad. Butland, rare in that his rapid physical development was matched by unusual emotional maturity, seems unlikely to be ruffled by rubbing shoulders with Steven Gerrard, John Terry, Wayne Rooney and company. Any anxiety should be assuaged by the presence of Dave Watson, Birmingham's goalkeeping coach, who Hodgson has hired to work alongside Ray Clemence in the tournament. "Jack has everything needed to play at the top level," said the Cheltenham defender Steve Elliott, who believes Butland played a big part in his team's progression to the League Two play-off final, in which they meet Crewe at Wembley on Sunday. "Jack's got his head screwed on. He knows what he wants and what he has to do to get there." Butland's ability to hit the ground running – he kept seven clean sheets during his first 12 appearances last autumn – have presumably persuaded Hodgson to select him ahead of more experienced candidates, most notably Bursaspor's Scott Carson and Newcastle United's Fraser Forster. The 24-year-old Forster kept 26 clean sheets in 47 appearances while on loan at Celtic last season and the elevation of Birmingham's third-choice keeper ahead of him has prompted incomprehension in Glasgow and on Tyneside. The teenager, who following a string of stellar Under-18 and reserve performances was voted Birmingham's young player of the year for 2009-10, has also benefited from training alongside four international goalkeepers during his time at St Andrew's. Hart, who had a loan spell at the club, has served as a mentor, as have the former England keeper Ben Foster, Northern Ireland's Maik Taylor and the Republic of Ireland's Colin Doyle. "Remember the name Jack Butland people. Never seen such a frighteningly good young talent in my career," tweeted Foster on Friday. A broken hand that required surgery in the autumn of 2010 proved a mere interruption to progress accelerated by his international hot-housing. Earlier that year he played in the England Under-17s' potentially watershed European Championship victory against Spain, while the summer of 2011 saw Butland excelling during the Under-20 World Cup in Colombia. Although Brian Eastick's side were knocked out by Nigeria in the second round, his four appearances featured the concession of only one goal. Equally importantly, this early experience of tournament football, and knowledge of how to cope with its rhythms, may prove to be invaluable next month. Players do not need to be "poor travellers" to find life as a third-choice goalkeeper unlikely to see first-team action disillusioning, but Butland knows the chance to learn from Hart, Green and Hodgson far outweighs any downsides. Chris Hughton feels he is equipped to cope with being hurled into the deep end, too. "It'll be great for his experience and development; I don't think he'll be fazed by it," says Birmingham's manager. "Jack's a mature lad, you can't get where he is at 19 without that maturity. England is a massive step up but the experience will be invaluable." Ironically, Hughton took time to be convinced by Butland in the first place. "Funnily enough, I initially didn't think too much of him," he said. "But then he went to Colombia with England Under-20s and really shone." Such sentiments are fully reciprocated by a team sad to see Butland recalled by Hughton last month. "We got the goods with Jack," says Steve Book, Cheltenham's goalkeeping coach. "Jack has everything he needs to be a top-class goalkeeper. England noticed him early and had him playing for the Under-21s as an 18-year-old. He was also lined up for the Olympics this summer – he's got it all. "Importantly, when Jack made mistakes for Cheltenham, he recovered from them impressively. That's a big tick in the box. Dave Watson tells me Birmingham would now trust him in their first-team." Watson may never get the chance to prove to be as good as his word: Mark Hughes is reportedly preparing a £6m bid to take the young man to QPR.

Probably better than Green and Ruddy.
A well respected Portuguese journalist has tonight tweeted that Manchester Utd LB Fabio is joining us on loan next season after he turned down Benfica. Really hope that isn't true as that surely means no deal for Taiwo.

Makes me think Taiwo won't be coming. Alex Ferguson said he wanted to loan him out so he could have a season of first team football. He was going to Benfica but the fact he has rejected them and is supposedly coming to us means we must have promised Man Utd he will start most games.
Not impressed at all if this is true.

Manchester United's Fabio is set to make a loan move to QPR next season after rejecting the chance to join Benfica, Portuguese newspaper Diario de Noticias has claimed. He had been thought to favour a Benfica move but at the time we said those rumours seemed solely to be on the back of the Gaitan circus which was at its height then. One of the Gaitan stories from O Jogo said that the Old Trafford club were prepared to pay a €25m fee and brought the possibility of Manchester United sending players to Benfica as part of the deal. The players mentioned, but not set in stone, were Bebe, Macheda and young Italian prospect Petrucci. In his programme notes before the Aston Villa game, Sir Alex Ferguson said Fabio da Silva would be sent on loan next season to help his progress and this was all put in the mix to create a Telegraph scoop: 'Manchester United agree a deal to sign Benfica's Nicolas Gaitan for £20m plus Fabio and Federico Macheda' This was quickly quoted in the Portuguese press, quoting the Telegraph as the source - not realising that the Telegraph's story had been a re-hash of reporting over there. They did what often happens in Europe and got on the phone to the player's agent and managed to get some quotes from Fabio. O Jogo had him saying "I feel very honoured by the interest of Benfica, but my transfer now depends on Manchester United completing negotiation." Despite the quotes at the time, fuelled by the Gaitan circus, it's likely there was no real interest in Fabio going there for a year anyway, indeed neither club may have seen it as a possibility either. If Diario de Noticias are correct and Fabio is going to QPR it shows that Sir Alex Ferguson hasn't held a grudge over the situation with Federico Macheda.. The young Italian striker was frozen out at the club before picking up an injury. sportwitness.ning.com/forum/topics/manchester-united-s-fabio-set-for-loan-move-at-qpr-next-season-no

www.bdpost.co.uk:80/sport/qpr_renew_interest_in_fulham_forward_1_1389845Rs boss Hughes makes Johnson one of his early summer targets Comments Email Print Got a story? QPR have renewed their interest in Fulham striker Andy Johnson. Johnson is set to leave Craven Cottage this summer after his contract expired at the end of the season, and the Rs have already made enquiries over the former Everton and Crystal Palace forward. Hoops boss Mark Hughes managed Johnson at Fulham during the 2010-11 season, and wants to persuade the 31-year-old to follow in the footsteps of Bobby Zamora, who left the club for QPR during January. Johnson scored 11 goals in all competitions for the Cottagers last season, three of which came against Rangers in October. Johnson cost Fulham more than £10 million when he signed from Everton in August 2008. QPR, under previous boss Neil Warnock, had a bid rejected for the forward last January.
