Thank God that's over. That was awful, absolutely awful, we were so wooden, you might have well just thrown a few chairs out on to the pitch for all the difference it would have made. I wasnt bothered about the result when I woke up this morning & I'm not now, but the "performance" ?! in a local derby ?! in an FA cup match at home ?! The players should all be embarrassed by that "performance" I was actually umming & aahing about going on thursday, thank God I didnt, I wouldnt be too happy if I paid out £40 quid to watch that, dear oh dear.

Agreed, absolutely awful. That's the weakest team you will see us put out this season.

No one gave a flying one out there today, i think pl is our main priority, i mean hulse came on so i think he was just giving everyone a go. not too bothered, although a better showing wouldve been nicer. Chelsea but shite as well, if it wasnt for that ridiculous penalty it wouldve ended 0-0. IMO chelsea were poorer than us for not putting 5 past us, there was no venom in their attack and our defence was organised and held out 'most' of their attacks. poor game though. both teams sucked.

KLR.
What worries me is the distribution from the back & the continued use of Joey (thetwat) Barton on deadball kicks. Something has to change here. So many times Chelsea's 1 man up front put so much pressure on our defense. The right side of the pitch has holes in it... to be fair Chels played shit as well but we were far shitter imo.

Once Taiwo and Onouha gets in the team the distribution from the back will improve.

Dont judge this performance, players' body language was different to the wigan game, no one cared, even hughes said in the pre match that this would be a bonus win and would be used for a morale boost. Roll on Villa, youll see a different hoops there as you did against wigan after that apalling showing against MK Dons. See the pattern...

I feel if Mark can get the backline right, then we will see some decent distribution allowing the frontline to use the full L+W of the pitch.

im not too worried, im not looking at that performance, we wanted to get knocked out, we played even worse against mk dons and were lucky to win, then 5 days later we smash wigan. I am just dissapointed because it didnt live up to the hype and football was shite along with the decision making.

Both teams were poor, but we were shockingly bad.
0-0 would have been the right result.

I think you have to give Chelsea some credit....they got sucked into a battle last time and lost, so AVB clearly sent them out to ensure they retained possession early and didn't get caught in a scrap...they didn't look that much more likely to score than us. I think Faurlin was a huge miss from the other game as Buzz reverted to ineffectual type (he didn't even take the freekicks today)
As I said last week "one swallow...", and today just confirmed what we already knew, we need reinforcement all over the place but it seems they're coming...it'll be great to welcome Taiwo, Traore, Taarabt & Onuoha into the team.

Yes we looked like we were not bothered and the trouble with that its' an attitude that could catch on. I thought we played like a below average championship side.

Just saw Young almost tie it up at the death. How did they get to 8 mins of overtime, I slept thru most of it.

I dont want to set KLR off again but I am beginning to come round to his way of thinking on SWP (with slightly less vehemence). His weekly take home is half the price of a small house up here. I can see where he's coming from.

The problem we have & the reason our play is so limited & stifled is the width, Mackie & Shaun Wright-Phillips in a 4-4-2, playing against a team like Chelsea, playing in The Premier League, you need better than that, I'm not going to get on a massive downer about it, because I have no doubts that Traore & Taarabt will come in soon in wide midfield positions, maybe we will stick to 4-4-2, or maybe with players of more ability like Taarabt & Traore we will be able to try something a little bit more, no point having a big argument about it, but that Mackie & Shaun Wright-Phillips on the wings really is p!ss poor. Even the best strikers in the world would struggle to do anything when there is nothing, literally nothing coming from wide midfield positions. Really was embarrassed by that "performance" all I can say is that I hope all of the players feel the same otherwise we really are in trouble.

Do know we could be terrible creating and midfield...But if we could make something from our Freekicks...As anyone recalls the Venables era: That's where a lot of our goals came from...Take Beckham for a couple of months before the Olympics..

If today's game/result had been played today with Warnock as our manager, and the team would have been the same; and the result and play had been the same: YOU, mr hitman34 would have been screaming at how useless Warnock, etc, etc, etc.

Strange game, we lacked the passion I thought we would play with, given the pre match hype?
Defensively overall, we look more solid, we are definitely more oganised but our final ball was poor and we lack penetration up front. A difficult game to summarise although I dont feel as downbeat as some others on here. We still have rollouts pending for our two new signings and Traore/Taraabt coming back in to the fold plus any additions pre Tuesday deadline.
I just hoped we might have played with a bit more intensity given all the big talk about dressing room confidence and morale? I was disappointed in Buzsacky who was so influential last weekend but ineffective today.
