Did not recognise them. superb ball handling and defense with just one lapse when they looked sluggish. The use of Halls height on the penalty and having him move was brilliant. Wright Phillips giving super passes and buszasky making the kinds of power blitzes he used to make for the Hungary Team. Can see how Sparkies teaching has already caught on. did we miss Traore no nor Trabs nor Faurlein. Wonderful to hear Bradley Allens voice again. Admittedly it was Wigan. We are in 16th place.

Had people round this afternoon so could only occasionally check the score on my phone so really looking forward to MotD now. How did Barton do and what sort of reception did he get?
I know we're still only 2 points above the drop zone but hopefully this will be real confidence booster.

TBH though, he can tweet whatever he wants as long as he puts the performances in. True enough, and he got booked after contant nggling fouls and bad mouthing from wigan players, every team we play knows he can be easily wound up, and its dirty tactics on their part but if barton could just control it it'd be great. Talking of barton wonder if he saw that cheeky cheating twat johnson playing for norwich earlier telling a chelski player to "get up" after he felt he'd dived...how hypocritical!!

Hughes has defo improved fitness, tactics, playing as a team, set pieces. Simple basics that Warnock couldnt handle..

All he needed to do, bossed the midfield played some great through balls in and broke up wigans play while setting us off on counter attacks...not saying he was MOM today but we looked so much better than vs newcastle or mk dons.

We looked better today against a poor side....Akos taking free kicks & corners helped as did 2 pens....I'd like to us do that to someone outside the bottom 5...As per other thread what did Barton contribute? Well done MH keep it up

And remember, we only need to beat the other teams in the bottom 5 to stay up.

As per other thread what did Barton contribute? Well done MH keep it up I already replied a few posts back Ive not been impressed by him since he joined and Im only talking ON THE PITCH here...but today i could see the difference he made to the team both in his performance, and presumably from his captaining too, we looked so much more confident and better organised. hats off to everyone who played their part and of course hughes!!

How can anyone not be happy with this. So many losses. Also won a FA cup match The defence was superb, all tracking back to crowd out any Wigan move. That had been happenning to us. Yes and those on this board who continue to rubbish Tommy Smith shoould be ashamed of themselves, a brilliant goal. Heidys second was a superb save against a goalk who has made some very good saves this year on penalties. SWP finally, finally, stayed on his wing and kept moving ball into dangerous positions. Mackies skills improved, but did hit an open goal into Shepherds Bush Empire. Hall didnt do anything terrible, Kenny was reading a book but did freeze on the penalty. .

If we win at Bolton , Blackburn and home to Wolves i reckon we would stay up, big ask though ! The other 2 wins and draws would come in the other 13 games . Think we could beat Wolves at Home , not sure if we could hope for more than draws at the other two which wouldnt be a total disaster . Still have Everton , Fulham Stoke and Swansea at Home .

I don't think this was a matter of who was better or worse than who. No one stood out. We stood out as a team.
I really liked Mackie and didn't dislike anyone. An awesome team performance.
DJ is getting back, but his judgement / sharpness are a bit off at the moment.

Maybe this result will be the extra bit we need to get these transfers pushed through... Need a Bolton loss as well... Great atmosphere today everyone!

London I'm very happy but I'm not going to let a home win against the bottom side confirm to me that we'll be safe...lots of work to do...Hall being ok should tell you something about Wigan's cutting edge (though I like Rodallega), great goal by Smith but his contribution over the last 3 games has been poor. Best players Ferdinand & Young but they have been most of the year otherwise the surprise was the resurgence of Akos and i thought Mackie looked better today

I thought DJ was really good first half but obviously he is not match fit so had to come off.

Not under this regime though. I think we will get results against higher placed teams though, we've done it previously this season and I think we're in a better position now to do it again.

I thought DJ was really good first half but obviously he is not match fit so had to come off. I can only imagine he had a twinge/injury at half time because though he lacks sharpness he helped close down the Wigan back 4 and he won that free kick for Akos ;D

Okay it isn't the same was watching the full 90 minutes but I saw extended highlights of the game and can say the following;
No doubts about the first penalty - cooly taken by HH. Not sure about the 2nd one though - you get soft one decisions and then you get these. Great penalty save by their keeper who pulled off some very good saves for Wigan. Mind you - Wigan's free kick that leasd to their goal was also a bit on the soft side.
Buzz's free kick was superb, their goal was equally great (not sure if you can blame Paddy k for that - he may have been rooted on the spot but I doubt he could have done anything even if he had time to react) but TS's goal was the icing on the cake.
So 3 great goals, 2 penalties but 1 miss and a vital win for Rangers in what seemed to be a good match. Maybe Wigan fans will be disappointed but I'm not.
So it looked a comfortable victory for us but I wonder what would have happened if Wigan had taken that chance right near the beginning of the game? They should have scored but didn't and I suppose football isn't about what ifs but rather what happened.
At least we didhn't seem to lose our composure when they pulled 1 back - although I'm not sure why we hung back at the beginning of the 2nd half.
Great win today and I guess that's all that we were asking for. I never thought that I would have waited until mid Jan to get back to back home wins though - but well done Rangers!!!!!

Agree it was all very postive..it was a freekick not penalty though!

Good to see the old guard from last season step up to the plate today, Smith and HH both played well and Buszaky was outstanding (what's Hughes been feeding him on!)
We held our shape well at 4-4-2 in first half, but less comfotable after Hughes swapped things around after hlf time - but overall a lot better. Tommy's goal will lift confidence of the whole team and it was nice to hear the crowd warming to Hughes, whilst also paying tribute to Warnock.

Buzz wasn't really given a chance by NW so being picked by MH has boosted his confidence. I really think he will make a big contribution to us staying up this season.
