Agree Thompson they did hold there shape. In the first half we were great going forward and solid at the back. In the second half we sat back for a while and probably defended to deep which in turn invited Wigan on to us, but what do I know. One thing is for sure Hughes does know and the team look far better and the formations suited our players. Come the next league fixture away too Villa the boys will be fitter more organised , more galvanised and have more belief.
Well done TF this could be your best move yet.

How can anyone not be happy with this. So many losses. Also won a FA cup match The defence was superb, all tracking back to crowd out any Wigan move. That had been happenning to us. Yes and those on this board who continue to rubbish Tommy Smith shoould be ashamed of themselves, a brilliant goal. Heidys second was a superb save against a goalk who has made some very good saves this year on penalties. SWP finally, finally, stayed on his wing and kept moving ball into dangerous positions. Mackies skills improved, but did hit an open goal into Shepherds Bush Empire. Hall didnt do anything terrible, Kenny was reading a book but did freeze on the penalty. . Some people are never happy. The shape of the team is so much better, we are not getting pulled all over the place. That will get even better over time.

So much more structured throughout (well, defence and midfield) and it can hopefully only get better. A bit more positive striking up front and we could well have had five today.

Twas ever the way....we lose and everyone calls Samaritans, we win and people start proclaiming the second coming....forgive me if I believe in the adage "one swallow does not a summer make"....we've played better than that and lost this year, so if we get a point at Villa I'll be a lot happier, if we sign a couple of good players I'll be happier still.

No euse, I do not see this as the harbinger of Prem life. but a super three points against the teams we should do well against to stay up. I am so happy that Smith replaced DJ and that the other bloke (its am here, and ive been drinking and my memory is shot). Cos neither would have come anywhere near the goal with that pass, but Smith can and does know how to score. A magnificent, strike, without which we could very well have to split the points. buszasky found form that we havent seen since he first came over from Ply A. The first penalty take by Ice was a superb strike, the second wasnt a penalty so who cares.
But as Sabas said, we looked like a team, aggressive, helping each other, moving the ball beautifully. Havent seen that very much. Sparky had that frown which I had until the penalty and he calmed. then very serious, observant, but not overwhelmed or exaltant, and when the players came off congrats, or a pat, but a win is good but not fantastic. Bothroyd was the bloke I forgot. I knew it was a free kick that Kenny froze on but I was so happy about this win, I mistyped. Oh again using Halls height to obscure and moving him with Busz Hungarian arrow bound for the twine, was brilliant. Goodnight, and good luck Rs. We might get smashed like the It cruise ship by scummers, but, I doubt that anymore, and Spuds are next and cant wait.

Hard to add much here but after some sloppy defending in the first five minutes we settled in to what has to rate as our most satisfying and composed home performance this season. Sure, the result against Chelsea meant more but we huffed and puffed against 9 in that game.
Hughes has certainly got the whole squad stepping up to the mark and this new found belief can only improve under his team. We now look sharper, punchier, less afraid to go forward and shoot at goal, our shape is better and we have more composure. With a couple of new signings this week and players due back from international duties in less than three weeks, this will surely continue to act as motivation to the existing squad?
Well done to Mark Hughes and his team, he IS making a big difference IMO. Also loved the NW chants yesterday as he also played a massive part in all this.

We have played plenty of other lower placed teams but come away with nothing this season. So many fine line games that have gone against us, satisfying that at 2-1 we still kept pressing for a third and got it. Great to see so many happy, smiling faces as we poured out of the ground.

Agree totally. Not too much has changed in my opinion ( and i don't mean that negatively). 1) We have played equally well in other games and got nothing and we will be dire again at times this season - that is football. 2) Barton still does nothing for me. There are plenty of players of equal ability around without the baggage. 3) Delighted for Akos Buzsaky. Great to see him step up and take his chance. 4) I still think we can stay up but it is going to be one hell of a fight!

With due respect I think you are missing the far bigger point...who cares if we've played better and got nothing? What we need now is points on the board. This is our first win in what 9 games?? Our confidence has been rock bottom and we've been on a horrible downward slide. Yesterday we actually looked confident. We actually passed the ball well. We actually scored some goals! We've moved up the table instead of down and we're out the relegation zone. we looked organised and solid out there for the first time in ages, I thought barton played and captained very well. It was a great performance but most Importantly its 3 vital points and 3 less for wigan . It could be our turning point because of the confidence boost and it could mean transfers are more likely to want to come because psychologically there is a big difference between bottom 3 and 16th.

Nope. I am just constantly amazed at what fans read into outcomes that are influenced by hairline decisions that could go either way. I am DELIGHTED that we won, that we are out of the bottom three and that we (rub my eyes with disbelief) scored 3 goals. Let's just have a bit of perspective.

After Wigan had pulled one back, they so nearly could/should have equalized...So really is a matter of inches...I don't think when we were 2-1 up, many of us were confident we'd hold out...
Now that we have the win, the confidence will undoubtedly surge...But was "A damned near run thing"

looking at it your way mac we were a matter of inches from scoring 5 or 6 goals.
we won the game, we had a game plan, it worked,we got two wins in a row. we have not achieved that this season until mark hughes and the "professional team" took on our failing club. against newcastle and and now wigan, we have a combined total of roughly 40 YES 40 atempts on goal. newcastle had 1 or 2 and wigan had just the one that i can remember. if we still had the other bloke in charge those stats would probably reversed.
your man has gone, time to admit the change and be more positive me thinks.
YOU R'SSSSSSSSSSSS
be positive.

Nothing to do with "MY" man has gone..."admit the changes" or "be more positive." It's just a fact...we could easily have drawn or lost yesterday - even though we were better (and could have won by more)... And that very well might have guaranteed our relegation instead of giving us a surge of confidence.. You can say it's cos of Hughes (or the traditional "New Manager Bounce" - and I won't argue. But I will still say....Could have been different...If luck had run against us...If some moronic ref had made some really bad calls, etc... It's clearly all in the stars!

I think on another day we could have got 5 quite easily yesterday , the pen miss and a few decent saves from Habsi . They had two decent chances before we got going , then i thought we pretty much dominated . If Hughes carries on getting the players at his disposal playing like that i shall be very proud whether we win the games or not, great start MH! Just hope if we did go down , hopefully MH would continue with us , i feel if we retained the correct players, good chance we could come straight back up. WHU look like they will with Birmingham and Blackpool P/O contenders .

We won the fing match didnt we. So many games can go either way, but out last results never looked like it would go our way. No its not the Arab Spring nor the rangers either, but I savour it. even if we were playing Leyton Orient we won. More, most important that the team can feel like they can win and can begin to turn it around like looking as though we were beaten before we start. To a competitive team that see themselves in a different light. I dont know if it will last but finally there is a light shining in the tunnel, not the end, not the beginning of the end, but perhaps the end of the beginning. Its gonna be harder as every team is playing for something. We will now be equipped to do our best. when you can get busz to look like the Hungarian International who led the line from midfield and whacked in goals like that, something is stirring.

Agree 100% with this. When helguson scored the penalty I was absolutely ecstatic. Felt like the clouds lifted and we could actually accomplish something again. Haven't felt that since November. Buzz and smith strikes were superb. Agree with Mac though, it was tense there for a bit at 2-1...but that's mainly because we've had so many results against us that I almost expected it. Nice to see the lads didn't start chasing the game at that point.

Euse, remember, we have different personalities. You are Stoic, I tend to be more emotional.
I have Seen QPR, and lived through, goings up and looking like we were going down in 2nd div in 48 52 till we finally did and stayed in 3rd endlessly, til we finally went up and came down same year breaking a record for number of wins. Losing the FA cup, yes the silver came one golden yr, then losing another Cup to a terrible team, finally up for 13 yrs and the team sold off from underneath us, then the endless 3rd 2nd Living through the Reign of Terror who did get us up but had no intention of giving a sh-t about their trash talk. 6 yrs and the European Cup, abject mishugash with Waiter conducting. Then abandoned us to instant return, still tho found a great buyer, too little and too late. But that match yesterday showed me, that maybe, maybe it just may not have been too late. I am becalmed.

I must confess that the old QPR cynic who has been living within me for more than seven decades led me to say to the guy sitting next to me in the Loft when we were only 2-1 up: "I can just see an equaliser coming here and the winner for Wigan a couple of minutes into time added". What's more, he agreed with me! So pleased we were both wrong.
