Wotcha Vic, Boston (although I hear there have been impersonators on various boards over the years) here. For others not aware 'young' Vic was one of the early users of the Official board, a man who has put pen to paper re QPR and a former racing pig jockey if I recall. I've not visited the offish for seven or eight years I reckon, one or two posters there took themselves a tad too seriously, but anyway I'm usually found arsing around elsewhere on the web, but this site is highly informative and well worth a regular visit

What a memory bostonr. There are STILL people around who really did believe the racing pig mention and even ask me how long it is since I retired! (I may not be a racing pig jockey - but I'm still bringing home the bacon) BOOM!BOOM!

Remember 79/80 giving Burnley a good stuffing 7-0--got lucky after that as my old man then worked for jim gregory as commercial director--fantastic memories of stan coming up to the board room after the match to pick up his 'extras' before doing it all two hours later over the road--remember everton stuffing us 4 nil opening match of the season on the hottest day i've ever been at loftus road--remember stainrod coming to train our school team--hope to remember this season just as well Remember that game well. their goalie was a kid who got a last minute call up when their regular keeper failed a fitness test. They lost 7-0 and he was given MotM by most of the Sunday papers!

Hi qprvic, long time no hear - yep I was the Philip from South Africa on the official site. When the old site went belly up I moved over to Ade's fan site but lost interest with all the bickering on that site and lost touch totally when they moved to a different server.
I still post ocassionally on the official site (Robby the Irish rocker based in Germany is still a regular there), otherwise most of my posting are found on this site.
I'm still flying the QPR flag in Sunny SA (not sure about that as we hit late autumn, early winter). We have hit the headlines quite a few times this season mainly for good reasons - but of course, the fact that we will be losing 15 points (Well that's what the Sun says and they never lie do they?) made the sporting headlines down here today.
The life of a QPR supporter - it's never dull being one, we have perfected the art of making our own drama.

Camel - the Burnley keeper first name was Billy if I remember correctly (can't remeber his surname). Yep I remember from reading the newspaper cuttings that my grandfather sent me that he had a great game and was MotM - which gives you a good idea how good we were on the day.
I believe that keeper died of Cancer not so long ago. I'm sure other fans can give details of the keeper and the circumstances of his death.

Billy Rourke was the young keeper. after the game the QPR players went up to him to console him. Wasn't his fault their defence was shit that day.

Billy O'Rourke was his name. The local Burnley Express named him Man Of The Match. He'd left the pitch in tears after appearing to be the only Burnley player on the pitch remotely interested in the match. This was the first of 14 matches in which he played during a goalkeeping 'crisis' at Burnley. The Clarets Fanzine apportioned no blame to the hapless keeper: "Nine members of this team had played at the highest level, yet they were utterly humiliated. Going forward, Burnley offered almost nothing and at the back they were an utter shambles. O'Rourke hadn't done anything wrong, yet he was beaten seven times." The Clarets Fanzine also points out that Burnley made SIX changes for their next fixture and O'Rourke was not one of the six.

;)My First game was 1975 against Spurs,i was very lucky that my dad(RIP) was a big Rangers fan, having been born n bred in the bush. Now bear in mind we settled in Barnet, North London after we had lived abroad for years(with my dads army service). I was in amongst Spurs,Arsenal and the occasional few Hammers fans(i dont mind them though).I was not alone, there were a handful of us but very few at my school. Then i left school in 1982 having been a regular at all home games, london games, and a few away games for 3 years and so began my own career and life which has led me to Queensland, Australia where i live now. Paul Finney lives around the corner from my mother. Now i did send him an e-mail last month which he has not replied to but i understand that he has some bad stuff going on in his life now. It would be great to know if there are any other Rangers fans in my neck of the woods. cheers, Jason Archer(jayrigg), Mackay, Queensland

I don't know if he's been mentioned, but there's a guy near the front in F block who has been going to rangers since 1927, we're talking about 84 years. He's 91 now, and he still looks good.

My first game was in 1968 versus Sheffield Wednesday, I think QPR won 3-2, only their second win of the season, I also saw wins three and four that season. I sat in the old Ellerlie Road stand. One of my brothers took me, not that he was a QPR fan but my dad who was born in Paddington had been as a kid so that was pretty much the reason. After that hardly missed a game for many years until the late 70s then still got there now and then until I moved away in the mid 1980s.
I remember the fantastic start to the next season in Division Two and standing in the pouring rain at the front of the South Africa Road stand watching Rodney Marsh score a hat trick in a 6-1 win over Blackpool. I loved Rodney Marsh but my favourite player was Barry Bridges and the two of them seemed to work well together. Then the following season when Rodney left I thought the end of the world was nigh! I wrote him a letter explaining why he should stay at QPR! (he never replied!). If my memory serves me right the next game was at Luton which I went to, I think the score was nil nil but QPR played with two wide players, one was a guy called Barry Salvage I think, and I thought that as a team we actually looked good and it was actually a great game.
Then the following season when along came a certain Stanley Bowles and I saw him make his debut against Forest, I thought he looked like a smaller version of Rodney Marsh! What a debut he had. At the risk of being controversial, as much as I loved Rodney, I did think that Stanley contributed much more to the overall team play but both had that flair and swagger that made them stand out.
I saw every home game that year and a lot of the away games, watching the game on Saturday (on TV) brought back memories of being at Loftus Road for our last game of that promotion season against Fulham and seeing so many excited young kids who love their modern day heros was just fantastic.

Alan Wilks opens the scoring against Sheffield Wednesday. Peter Springett, made captain for the game, lies beaten on the ground. Barry Bridges looks on for Rangers. Far right Vic Mobley who joined Rangers in October 1969.

Thanks Bushman, I actually remember the programme being that colour check that day! How sad is that! I think there also used to be a magazine called Football League Review that came with the programme? Might be wrong on that. Vic Mobley! I remember when he joined and he was going to be the answer to our defensive problems on the way straight back to Division One. I always felt sorry for Alan Wilkes he got a lot of stick but I always thought he gave his all.
