For a guy about to become a majority shareholder of a football club he seems to be quite busy tweeting about his beloved Team Lotus. twitter.com/#!/tonyfernandes

IF it's Briatore/Ecclestone shares being sold...and the Mittals keeping their percentage, could be good...And who's to say he won't sell to the Mittals

From today's 'Independent':
Fernandes in sale talks
Talks are continuing between Tony Fernandes, the Malaysian airline tycoon, and Queen's Park Rangers owner Bernie Ecclestone towards a sale of the newly promoted Premier League club. Fernandes has been speaking to Ecclestone and his partner, Flavio Briatore, for most of the month (presumably they mean last month). The trio know each other through Formula One, in which Fernandes races Team Lotus. It remains unclear whether Fernandes will buy a controlling interest, leaving Ecclestone and Briatore with a minority share, or will merely take a stake in the club. Ecclestone currently owns 62 per cent of the club, with Indian steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal owning the rest.

"For the record I tried. And twice. First rebuffed by starumer for gold and sullivan. Second the way I was treated on the second bid. Gold has been decent. But no more."
RE: "@sammylizard: @tonyfernandes If your a true WH fan I doubt you'll get much pleasure investing in another club. why not step up and help get WH back !"
Reading between the lines -- he is not denying his interest in investing in another club.

Macmoish - thought of that one as well. I can't see Mittal selling out to anyone because he and Amit know it's only a matter of time before Bernie & Co sell their 67% to somebody and then they can get active once again with Amit back on the board. Amit obviously loves the club and Mittal is playing the long game, which is the smart thing to do. As for Tony F buying the 67% and then selling part of it to Mittal to create a 50/50 ownership, that's great in theory but highly unlikely because Mittal will not pay an inflated price for any percentage of the club. Which means Tony F has to secure the 67% at the correct valuation or thereabouts in order to be able to offload 17% to Mittal. And we all know that £100 million for 67% is a ridiculous demand because that corresponds to a club valuation of £189 million when taking into account the existing debt on the club's balance sheet, which I have conservatively estimated at £40 million. In reality, the debt is probably closer to £50 million now, which would value the club at £199 million based on the majority owner's asking price for the 67%...someone inflated, I believe! Here is a thought...Mittal, Fernandes, Mallya as an owning consortium. Not a crazy outcome by any means and the club would have plenty of sponsors if it happened...Air Asia, Kingfisher, Whyte & Mackay...nice position to be in! I like that last scenario hot. ;D As long as it's only Berine selling his shares I don't care, just as long as tango is gone, rude obnoxious bully that he is. Hopefully the Mittals' hang on to their third. Although I have to say, anyone giving Ecclestone £100 million for his two thirds needs his head examined. That sort of deal would outdo Berine's inflated house sale to Lakshmi!

Does his home have an indoor training center/ The club could save some cash by having the players train there!

Seems he has little free cash available, suppoerts West Ham, and should West Ham be availablt to buy, will ditch QPR. Can't see there being any more cash available under Fernandes. In fact I see less being available. From this perspective Tango and Cash are better in my view.

I am not getting my hopes up this fella seems to be very close to those who own the club now and is it a case of moving deck chairs on the ship i don't know but all seems very odd. And something is not right here.

After a slew of owners over the past 25+ Years (and especially the past fifteen year), I think we've all become deeply sceptical about owners: Gregory - Bulstrode - Thompson - Wright - Blackurn/Jones/Davies - BP/Paladini - Paladini/Caliendo - Ecclestone/Briatore/Mittal... and now?

Only time will tell if Fernandes would be a good owner (provided he DOES buy us) but don't hold it against him that he knows Tango & Cash. So did the Mittal's when they bought their shares.
Knowing someone does not mean you share their views or even like them, and being able to work with someone can certainly be done whilst you hate them!

There is so much bullshit and misinformation on this thread it should get an award!
One thing I won't do is debate with a person who only see's what he wants to see, has a very self-inflated opinion of himself based on nothing but a desire to be like his heroes (and this is an adult!), ignores truths when they don't fit his argument and doesn't even support QPR.
That is all I have to say on this matter on the board as debating with sycophants is a waste of my time.

West Spam turned him down because Gold and Sullivan didn't want to sell, that has nothing to do with what Fernandes is like as a business man or an owner. The same can probably be said about Norwich.

I suspect he represents a consortium because his money wouldn't be enough (guess), otherwise its all about gearing (cue Ingham)

www.thisislondon.co.uk/standard-s....owners.do?In the driving seat: Tony Fernandes Tony Fernandes to become new QPR chairman 29 Jul 2011 QPR players 'ready to die for each other' ahead of Premier League return Ads by Google Air Asia owner Tony Fernandes will become the new Queens Park Rangers chairman but co-owners Bernie Ecclestone and Flavio Briatore will remain majority shareholders of the club. Fernandes, who is also the team principal of Formula One's Team Lotus, has been in talks with the club over a possible takeover. But it is understood that rather than take overall control, Fernandes's investment will only be enough to see him granted a minority share. However, the Malaysian businessman will be installed as chairman. It will mean Briatore and Ecclestone will still be calling the shots. Fernandes, who has been shown around Loftus Road and discussed plans for the forthcoming Premier League season with manager Neil Warnock, failed in a bid to buy West Ham in January 2010. Meanwhile, Rangers are set to secure the 1.25million signing of striker DJ Campbell from Blackpool qprreport.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=24764&page=1#ixzz21zpRtlyLAnd also this thread

I think there was a certain fear that Fernandes because of his f1 connection was just a part of the Briatore-Ecclestone...Seems not!

Thus far he has impressed on most issues. We should be enjoying it whilst it lasts as most of us have experienced the down side - 1996-2011 for example.
