Sorry for new thread but I thought its significant. It would answer the "where's the cash question" and the Standard is in the Daily Mail stable (who broke Fernandes story). Not sure it makes me feel better www.thisislondon.co.uk/standard-sport/football/article-23973968-qpr-in-talks-with-potential-new-owners.do?In the driving seat: Tony Fernandes Tony Fernandes to become new QPR chairman 29 Jul 2011 QPR players 'ready to die for each other' ahead of Premier League return Ads by Google Air Asia owner Tony Fernandes will become the new Queens Park Rangers chairman but co-owners Bernie Ecclestone and Flavio Briatore will remain majority shareholders of the club. Fernandes, who is also the team principal of Formula One's Team Lotus, has been in talks with the club over a possible takeover. But it is understood that rather than take overall control, Fernandes's investment will only be enough to see him granted a minority share. However, the Malaysian businessman will be installed as chairman. It will mean Briatore and Ecclestone will still be calling the shots. Fernandes, who has been shown around Loftus Road and discussed plans for the forthcoming Premier League season with manager Neil Warnock, failed in a bid to buy West Ham in January 2010. Meanwhile, Rangers are set to secure the 1.25million signing of striker DJ Campbell from Blackpool

Weird Is he buying the Mittal shares?

I still suspect this is a way of flushing out another buyer perhaps Mittal or the Russian. Our friend CernyBernie (who claims to have been Captain Clunge on WATRB says he still thinks its the Russian)

Well Scott last week said on WATRB that Paladini owned 10% of the shares - which was the first time I ever heard that. And seemed counter to all the published annual reports and other reports.

Well good old Bernie has done it again. As well as upsetting the QPR fans by increasing the ticket prices, the free to air F1 viewers up in uproar. He has now dumped the BBC free to air and sold the viewing rights to Fox Sports, pay to view. Is there nothing this man wont do for the almighty dollar.

Make your fricking mind up www.thisislondon.co.uk/standard-sport/football/article-23973968-qpr-in-talks-with-potential-new-owners.doIn the driving seat: Tony Fernandes Tony Fernandes agrees to buy 51% share in QPR Simon Johnson 29 Jul 2011 Air Asia owner Tony Fernandes will become a majority shareholder at QPR after agreeing to buy a 51 per cent stake in the club. Standard Sport can confirm that Fernandes, who is the team principal of Formula One's Team Lotus, has been in talks with the club over a possible takeover. Rangers have attracted interest from two other unnamed parties since Bernie Ecclestone, who has a 62 per cent stake in the club, admitted in March that he would be willing to sell his share for £100m. Initial negotiations seemed to ensure Fernandes' investment would only be enough to secure a role as chairman, with co-owners Flavio Briatore and Ecclestone still calling the shots. However, Fernandes has agreed a deal to buy the majority of Ecclestone's shares to assume overall control. It could mean a major power shift in the club with Ecclestone and Briatore owning just 16 per cent between them as Lakshmi Mittal still has a 33 per cent stake. Standard Sport understands Fernandes is flying out to the club's pre-season training base in Italy tomorrow to meet with Warnock and discuss plans for the new season, including some more transfer targets.Fernandes, who has already been shown around Loftus Road, failed in a bid to buy West Ham in January 2010. Meanwhile, Rangers are set to finally secure the £1.25m signing of striker DJ Campbell from Blackpool. Talks had stalled over personal terms for the 29-year-old, who scored 13 goals in the top flight last season, but now a deal is close to being agreed.

Of course , we do not know if Tony Fernandes will be good for us in the long run but the idea of T&C being reduced to a maximum of 16% holding is music to my ears!
What a position this would put us in for marketing etc in Asia. Especially if the Mittals were to become active again.
If Fernandes does fly out to see Warnock we will have to give this story credence.

The link to formula 1 is a worry to myself.... In that this could be all a smokescreen. When our current farce was in trouble over his formula 1 cheating he took aback seat . Now he is getting grief left right and center from every fan anywhere he suddenly once again finds another person to take the heat off.I hope I am wrong and fernandes is only interested in taking the club forward.

Like stylecouncillor I am just a little wary of the news today. On the plus side it could be the start of a change, 51% now perhaps more later or a link up with the Mittals maybe. The 'but' for me is that this all seems a bit convienient, the press have picked up on the rumblings, there was the bizarre statement from the club about the 'coach' and suddenly within days a new face appears on the block who has F1 connections and is originally reported as a 'minor' shareholder but apparently now is a majority shareholder.
There is a slight sense of deja vu here, all the 'Team Amit' stuff,' Briatore is now totally out of the picture' and if not specific there was certainly no effort made to change the perception that the Mittals had become majority shareholders. Put all this into the context of the clubs track record in terms of honest and truthful communication (£3.5 million pound transfers to name but one of many) and I will pause before cracking open any champagne.
Lets see if there is a sudden change of direction in order to recruit any further players before the August deadline and some specific information from the source rather than newspapers as to what the split of shares really is.
Potentially exciting news but we have been down this path before when clearly a lot of effort was put into creating an illusion of change to prevent hostility towards FB in particular, and coming so close to the opening home fixture in the PL? Maybe I am getting too cynical!
I will try and look on the bright side, although 'trust but verify' would be a sensible position for the moment!

This is the crux of the matter.
I cannot see how it would benefit Ecclestone (apart from getting some cash back now) to stay as a minority shareholder , unless Fernandes is expected to increase his holding in the future. This way T&C would realise their return over a period of time & have sold to whom they regard as preferred.
To expect to still have the major say in the club with a minority holding would be frought with danger. It could start that way but the more partners there are the more liklihood a falling out will occur.

Can you hear the drums Fernando, agree with original poster, not good news, if Tony F is only a minority shareholder, however, he could buy them out later, like Stan Kroenke at Arsenal. Step by step.. maybe Bernie will sell, if we are going down..
