Bump another year - Rodnee Turns 80[Edit: Merged two threads from the past...Didnt quite work!] Bottom line: Today is Rodney Marsh's 80th Birthday... Happy Birthday - Born October 11, 1944:-*Initial Title was "Remembering Rodney Marsh"Hopefully will be a long thread! If you could add any photos, video, relevant articles/interviews links re Rodney Marsh...(even if have already been posted on other threads on this board). AND especially, Personal memories of watching him play - For QPR (for Fulham before QPR?) and Man City, Fulham, England or Tampa Bay. I wasnt' there for his first QPR game (or first QPR season). I was there for the 1967/68 on. And I was there for his final home game (at Loftus Road against Blackpool, I believe). And certainly that mid-march 1972 day when he was sold to Man City was one of the blackest in QPR history.

Can we link the entire DVD Mike? The Billy Rice one. Ade sent me a copy which i have watched only three times since I got it two weeks ago. I have a friend Who was at that Cup Final - Chas Davis, he's told me of the experience as a young lad attending our greatest day. God I wish I had been there to see this mans skill for real and not via clips.

in watching qpr for fifty years ive never ever recoved from watching rodney for me he was the most special player i just dont know what it was about him, pehaps it was his cheek perhaps it was his ability to syncranise up with the crowd because his hair was kind of sandy coloured he looked like he was made of solid gold i loved rodney like i could never ever love a qpr player again although the big conversation is always who is better bowles or marsh for me unquestionabley our greatest ever striker was les ferdinand but rodney remains always my favourite player

As a 30 year old, the best player I have ever seen at Rangers in my time was Ray Wilkins, after that I would have to say Les, a truly great striker, breathtaking to watch him when he was in full flow. Wilkins just had that air of class about him that all great players had, the way he orchestratred that midfield was a thing of beauty & he was in his mid to late thirties at the time, pure class, I have never seen a better midfield technician than Ray Wilkins, it may not have worked for him as manager, but dont disrespect the guy, I have never seen better in the blue & white hoops, I have other personal favourites down the years like john Spencer & Rowan Vine, but If I had to pick one particular player it would be Ray Wilkins, Fantastic. My Dad is 58 & trust me, its all about Rodney, he doesnt even mention Stan Bowles name, I think for my Dads age group, late 50's / early 60's its all about Rodney, & it always will be.

Lazarus was a good player. Marsh was G-D! As we all remember Marsh had his good days. And occasionally his not-so-good days. But on his good days, amazing. We weren't a one man team. But clearly he was in the American paralance "The Straw that stirred the Drink"

Bowles won NOTHING EVER, Rodney made us! Bowles threw hissy fits & threw his toys out of his pram, Rodney rode the storm of his first season at MAN CITY & went on to be Captain. Stan was surrounded by internationals - Rodney wasn't! I know Rodney well, and nobody with perhaps the exception of Gerry Francis is more passionate about QPR! Ask a casual supporter to name a QPR player before Rodney, they can't! Stan would turn up at 3pm after a race in the betting shop, he had more good players to share the burden than Rodney. He was not good enough for Man City, Crewe, Bury, Carlisle, Orient or Forest.... That's not genius or passion! For god sake, Rodney was in the team that won our ONLY double, and broke down after the cup final. It's just that he made things look easy & casual! Just because Stan was part of your life sound track, does not mean he was better! He wore the 10 shirt because nobody wanted it, he was stripped of it as soon as Tony joined. When are you going to open your eyes? It was MARSH that won us our ONLY trophies, Bowles won NOTHING..... and still you can't see it!!!! You are brain washed in your own era. George Best said Rodney was the most skillful & passionate about the way football should be played man he ever met!..... I suppose he was wrong as well. Why don't we like winners in this Country? Bowles was NOT a winner, he came second in the league ..... GREAT! And surely you can see, that a passionate genius does not get off loaded by all those little clubs, and if not for Gerry, Dave Thomas, Don Givens & Don Masson who knows if he would of made it at QPR? But it seems, you are all too fixed in your way's to look at the facts. The Beatles were not my era, but I know they were better than A-HA! who were!!!! Can you not give any credit to the man who put QPR on the map? And as I say, if your talking passion for the Hoops.... Gerry Francis wins by a mile! But I suppose, although he was England Captain, he is behind the great, holy, God like, not a medal in site Stan as well??? WAKE UP!!!!! The photo shows Rodney with obviously NO passion, crying his eyes out after winning our ONLY EVER major trophy!!!!! Attachments:
