When they played West Germany in the 1954 Final, Hungary were unbeaten in 29 matches in four years (including the Olympic Games). Their undefeated streak crashed when they lost 3-2 to the Germans.

I don,t know if this record still stands, but the highest score in any World Cup qualifer was 13-0, the score by which New Zealand beat Fiji in 1981.

I believe it may have recently been beaten.
Steve Sumner for the All Whites scored against Scotland (Scotland won 5-2) in the 1982 World Cup Finals and became the first player from Oceania to score in an WC Finals.
