He holds the record for most goals scored in a single FIFA World Cup finals tournament, with thirteen in 1958. Although France did not win the 1958 World Cup, Fontaine became the second player after Alcides Ghiggia to score in every match of a World Cup.

I don,t know if this record still stands, but the highest score in any World Cup qualifer was 13-0, the score by which New Zealand beat Fiji in 1981. I think it's 32ish-0 now. Australia vs some small Pacific island (although it may have been a friendly) well the score was 31-0, it was American Samoa. But I think it was an Asian Cup qualifier since it was in 2006/7 www.youtube.com/watch?v=1wg9ox9F7Vw
