Posted in transfer thread but probably deserves its own.
Looking like Bright Osayi-Samuel has been sold to Club Brugges for ~£4.5m. Not official as yet but doing the rounds from Belgian football journalists.

that's way to low fee in my option. Should be double that but I guess with 12 month left on his contract could we hold out?

With 12 months left, he's worth whatever people are willing to pay I guess.
My assumption is...WLS reported that Brugges were in for him weeks ago and tabled a bid for about £3m. We rarely leak these days, so I'd reasonably assume that that news was legit, and the club were fine with that coming out via Dave Mac. It was basically a 'bat signal' to other clubs that a deal was possible, but bidding starts at £3m.
Now, either no one else came in, and/or Brugges were keen enough on BOS to win the bidding, which topped out at £4.5m. Though of course, it is all rumours from the Brugges-end at the moment so anything could happen.
I'm gutted to see him go, though it was inevitable I guess. Plus side on the money, that's us taking a kid in from League One, improving him significantly then selling him for about triple what we paid for him, if not more (never been 100% sure what we paid for him). It's what we have to do.

I had hoped for a little more & I don't want the club to accept the first offer above the minimum without testing the market.
Perhaps this has been carefully leaked for the club to gauge whether there is any other genuine interest?
We should also remember that prior to December & his goal at Birmingham, we would have snapped anybodies hands off if they offered £2 million!

"QPR reject bid for Osayi-Samuel - West London Sport" www.westlondonsport.com/qpr/football-qpr-reject-bid-for-bright-osayi-samuel/ampThat was us publicly knocking back a £3m bid a couple of months ago, probably to gauge other interest. Presuming that info is all true, it's added about 1.5m on top since.

WLS now reporting a bid of £4.7m has been accepted and that BOS isn't in the squad for Millwall.
Have to say the fee is bl**dy disappointing, especially considering the transfer window isn't open yet - can't help wondering if we couldn't have got £6-8m for him, minimum.
Maybe we're cr*p at negotiating, maybe we're desperate for the money, maybe we need to move quickly for targets of our own, who knows...
But very disappointed this evening. Let's hope we have a decent sell-on clause at least.

Normal QPR business has resumed - giving away our best players for nominal fees. Well done Les. He should have gone for 10, Eze should be out there for at least 15-20. But we'll give him away too. Only at QPR.

I understand the disappointments, but I think you have to see it for what it really is. First up, we extended the contracts of Bright and Manning full in the knowledge that any contract that we could offer beyond that was not going to be competitive. Both had to be sold. All clubs feed the media to talk up transfer fees. Our choice of journalist is Dave McIntyre at WLS. With a year left on his contract, Bright and his agent hold all of the power, the club has very little. The agent is able to decline any higher offers in favour of what suits the player. Through WLS, we have pretended that Bright is worth between £6m and £8m when even the leaks reveal that the only offer we have received has been from Bruge at circa £3m. So out come the stories of interest from WBA, Burnley and and Bournemouth. As of last night, WBA will be desperate to shift high earners off their payroll. Likewise Bournemouth. Bright may not be interested in waiting for a play-off result / another year in the Championship. Burnley hardly splash money around and if Dyche were to leave a year of struggle and the bench may lie ahead. But instead, Bright is offered Champions league football. Sounds better than another year with struggling QPR, with another Championship club or a seat on the bench at a Premier League Club. We allow the fee to be leaked so that if any other interested party wants to offer more, they can. But Bright can still say 'no'. Even Sir Les advised him to go abroad - just as he did. From the club's point of view, after sell-ons to Blackpool they will have £4m to spend when the window opens next Monday. They can compete for maybe four players, We really need to add to the squad and they risk missing out on targets if they do not have the security of at least one confirmed sale. Is it any coincidence that the Manning 'interest' stories are now also circulating? If we could net £2m for Manning, I believe we would snatch at the cash for all the above reasons. By shifting two of the three out early, we can play hard ball with the prized asset. I hope we do. But my estimate, net of sell-ons for the 3 was £20m and that cannot all be reinvested because of FFP. My thinking was? Manning £1.5m -2.5m, Bright £3.5 - £4m and Eze £14m - £16m. So yeah, I have seen some of the venom on other MBs directed towards the club (especially Sir Les as per usual) but as others have said in this thread, we got a £3m offer up to £4.7m in a depressed market for an essential early deal. I think that we did pretty well, considering. Sorry to see him go, I wish him well though. I loved his exciting play. I hope though that there is genuine interest in Eze and that he does not go for a song.

I really cannot go along with criticism of the club for a fee of 4.5 million if that number is correct. Look at the facts. BOS is not the finished article and until the second half of the season he was not even being rated that well by many fans. Brugge are still buying potential rather than a polished gem. He has refused a new contract with us and was never going to accept the terms we can offer, we forced the issue to keep him for as long as possible and keep a transfer value by exercising an option to extend his contract. With 12 months left no club is in a strong negotiating position. Expect exactly the same to happen with Manning. We are a selling club and this is exactly what we must expect- pick up someone free or cheap, get a couple of good years from them and sell them for a few million profit. If BOS was so highly rated (outside of QPR) there would have been more teams knocking on our door including clubs from England and the PL. Why did they not come knocking - consistency and maybe attitude? His "availability" has been out there for a long time with no takers. What is the "new" transfer market value of players during a pandemic with clubs going broke - not the same as 9 months ago. I could go on but this is the new reality - get used to it. I hate it when people make a good argument and sense. :-) I guess as fans we can see the potential that is there ,,as well as what we will be missing when gone so hope we get the highest figure to give us a chance to bring another player in of the same quality.

When are fans going to realise that a player's value is not determined by what he's worth to them but what he's worth to the buying club.
As I understand it, the original offer was for £3m a number of weeks back so an increase of 50% of that is pretty decent. Also, there are a lot of other factors to consider. BOS has come good this season but only in the second half of it. Then there's the depressed market caused by the pandemic. Thirdly, there's the player himself, where does he want to go?

Only at QPR. Genuinely interested in how you back up those values, though. Why £10m? Why would Ferdinand, Hoos etc. just 'give' players away when it makes their jobs a lot, lot harder. He is worth what people bid. Our players being for sale for the right price has never been a secret, but even when the initial bid came in, we went public. Two months have passed and the same club is in for him, albeit for 1.5m more than before. Either we extracted that extra cash out of them by making them wait, or they matched the other bids until they stopped arriving. Doesn't matter if we think he's worth 20m or 500m if clubs don't offer more. Alternatively you hang on...but BOS refused to sign a new deal. After the next mid-season window, he'll be worth less (like the judgement call we made on Austin), so this is the window to sell him, if he won't stay. And as well as know from Ricky's threads, we've got some serious work to do this summer, gaps to fill, so we need money in. You keep him here when he won't extend a deal, he's gone for free at a time where we cannot fund new transfers without selling assets first. Bought for less than 1m, had only ever played at League One standard or lower. Couldn't break into the team here at first, but we developed a decent Championship winger across a couple of seasons. Sold for almost five times what we bought him for, in a Covid-19 transfer market. I'm sad to see him go as I like him as a player and I'd always happily have more money. But looking at it coldly, how exactly has this been mishandled? Edit: just caught up - basically what Marc, Ricky and 75 have already said!

No deal can be completed unti July 27th when the transfer window opens.
Or perhaps that should be registered instead of completed. However, if BOS wants to go to Belguim rather than English clubs, that is where he will probably end up.
There is no 14 day quarantine between England & Belguim 75. At least at this end & my next door but one neighbours didn't have to lockdown in either country on their visit there in July.

An interesting one - conscious that the WLS story is under the WLS byline rather than Dave Mac and it's essentially reporting on the reporting of a rumour, rather than confirming it themselves.
If true, like 75 says it comes down to whether BOS is sold specifically on the idea of going to Belgium. Plus side is that he is more likely to get games, get to play European football and it's a beautiful city. Other side of that is wages on offer and self confidence. Generally, a player wants to play at the highest level possible - in Fulham's case, I guess that rests on how they do in the play offs. But purely on that, if the Premier League is knocking, it is very hard for a player to turn that down...but what kind of assurances can the clubs mentioned make about game time? Freeman is far better enumerated at Sheff Utd but he doesn't get a look in - and he was easily our best player before he left. That stuff is a big deal for BOS at his age when he really needs to be playing week in week out.
If true, excluding the fact that it's sad he's leaving, it is only good news. In this market the only way we are gonna get more money is if there's a bidding war.

Blackpool could cash in on Bright Osayi-Samuel transfer from QPR to Belgium
The winger is in advanced talks with Club Brugge, who are expected to sign the ex-Seasider for a fee of around £4.75m.
The Gazette understands Blackpool did negotiate a sell-on fee as part of the deal that took Osayi-Samuel to Loftus Road.
The 22-year-old left Bloomfield Road on deadline day in September 2017 for a fee believed to be well over £1m. The previous month Brad Potts left for Barnsley in a similar deal, also involving a sell-on.
Osayi-Samuel was brought to Blackpool in 2014 by the club’s former coach Richie Kyle, who now works for the FA. He made his debut in March 2015 in a 1-0 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday and went on to make 99 appearances for the Seasiders.
In what has proved to be his breakout season in the Championship, the tricky winger has provided five goals and eight assists for QPR in 36 appearances.
His form also saw him linked with Premier League club Burnley this summer. But the London-born talent looks set to sign for Brugge, as confirmed by QPR boss Mark Warbuton.
Osayi-Samuel was left out of QPR’s squad for Saturday’s 4-3 winover Millwall and Warburton said: “There’s a very strong interest from a Belgian club.
“Bright was training on Friday with us to start on Saturday. Talks are certainly at an advanced stage but no paperwork has been completed.”
Osayi-Samuel helped Blackpool to promotion from League Two in 2016/17, scoring five times in 42 appearances. He has played 96 times in all for QPR.

Meanwhile in Birmingham... EDIT: From Sky And we couldn't get £5m for BOS? We probably could get a lot more if one the best teams in Europe were in for him. Jude Bellingham is 17, had massive interest from multiple highly monied clubs across Europe. Apples n oranges imo, it's more of a Raheem Stirling situation. As a more realistic comparison of the market, you've got Reading accepting a 3.5m bid for John Swift - well regarded, 25 and has a contract until 2022.

The latest 'Press Release from QPR'..... QPR round-up: Hammers interested in Eze as Rangers eye Moore By West London Sport 20/07/2020
QPR forward Ebere Eze West Ham have indicated they are interested in a potential deal to sign Ebere Eze from QPR. Hammers boss David Moyes and his assistant Alan Irvine watched Rangers’ game against Millwall on Saturday. Moyes is considering making a move to sign Eze, who scored in QPR’s 4-3 win – his 13th goal of the season. Moyes has also been made aware of Ryan Manning’s potential availability this summer. Manning scored too at the weekend and was outstanding in the second half of the game. Rangers expect to receive firm bids for Eze this summer. The 22-year-old has been linked with several Premier League clubs during the last year or so. However, prior to West Ham’s the only solid interest in Eze has been from Crystal Palace. Osayi-Samuel in Belgium discussing moveQPR: Bright Osayi-Samuel Bright Osayi-Samuel is in Belgium discussing personal terms with Club Brugge after QPR accepted an offer for the winger. Rangers are ready to sell for £4.7m after being unable to persuade Osayi-Samuel to sign a new contract. The club triggered an option to extend his deal, which was due to end this summer, by 12 months. But he indicated that he would continue turning down their offers of another contract. It left QPR facing the prospect of losing him on a free transfer next summer. Rangers hoped accepting an offer might lead to bids coming in from Championship clubs. However, none have shown any solid interest despite several being linked with him. Financial concerns meant transfer activity among EFL clubs was slowing even before the coronavirus pandemic, which has created huge uncertainty. QPR therefore decided to accept an improved offer from Club Brugge, having previously rejected a bid of around £3m from the Belgian outfit. QPR keen to sign Moore QPR have made an approach for Wigan striker Kieffer Moore. The 6ft 5in 27-year-old has scored nine goals in 35 Championship appearances since joining the Latics from Barnsley last summer.

He is always outstanding against QPR and I would have thought worth more than Bright. The £3.5m fee is the initial price that Sheffield United are paying, but it shows the trouble Reading must be in to have to accept such a low sum. Meanwhile, at the Blades, Luke Freeman will probably drop even further down the pecking order when Swift arrives, even though Freeman cost more. Wigan have to raise £6m by the end of July to survive, so the administrator is busy asset stripping. Their fans not keen on QPR steeling their striker when we beat them in the play-offs by cheating and only receiving a tiny fine in the process. But Preston are said to be coming back with an enhanced bid that would see him remain in the North West. Our advantage seems to be that we can meet the 31st July deadline but I would still only put the signing at 50/50. But I cannot reconcile the Bellingham value at all. He has not even been a regular starter at Birmingham. If they are buying potential, then why so much up front? £26m upfront is huge in this market to secure potential. But it is one weird deal in a pretty depressed market I guess.

But it is one weird deal in a pretty depressed market I guess. I think the Bellingham stuff is a mixture of a long-running bidding war, the relative wealth of the clubs involved and scouting knowledge we simply don't know enough about as fans. Interest has been rumbling for months, if not longer behind the scenes, so if there is competition for the signature, price goes up. Secondly, once you've got huge clubs involved, the price increments become less important. The jump of say, moving from 2m to 3m when bidding on a player is a really big deal for a club like ours. But moving from say, 30m to 35m to secure a deal for a club like Borussia Dortmund isn't. And thirdly, the folk who "know", the ones who have monitored him for ages, know something we don't about his actual level of potential. Bringing up Wigan made me think of Jensen Weir - he's about to be sold in the Wigan fire sale. Only 18 and has represented England at U16, U17 and U18 level, so by definition is one of the best English players for his age. But Wigan are in admin, the figure quoted for him is £600k. That's around 1/50th of Bellingham. It's a market, loads of stuff goes into it but fundamentally, it is always down to a player being worth what others are willing to pay.

The 6ft 5in 27-year-old has scored nine goals in 35 Championship appearances since joining the Latics from Barnsley last summer. Interesting article - not so sure on the Kieffer Moore deal - certainly a target man but would he take us back to the Matt Smith days? More interesting is that I thought Eze and Manning both had probably their best games for us since the return on Saturday - especially in the second half. I wonder if that was just them getting up to speed (after 7 games) or maybe they saw or found out who was watching them and decided to put in the effort they had displayed in the earlier part of the season. Either way they may have convinced West Spam that they will cost a bit more money than they had hoped to bid. Not so surprised that no Championship clubs have come in for BOS. Just goes to show the likely state of the transfer market in the next window - the majority of clubs are only going to pay reasonable cash for well proven players and many clubs will not be able to afford that in the first place. Unless we have PL teams in for our better players I can only see us getting a fraction of what most fans value our players at. Plus even if PL teams do come knocking they have the upper hand and our best players are still unproven at anything above mid championship level. Manning is probably at or close to his peak while Eze has bags of potential but I would expect any PL deal for him to be a lowish up front payment with add ons based on appearances, sell ons etc. I think most have accepted these 2 will go but I then would be worried if someone came in for Chair who I rate as having more potential than anyone in the squad after Eze. On Moore, I think the comparisons with Smith probably begin and end with their height. Moore's more mobile and has better feet. Not to knock Smith as I think he's very good at a very particular job - it's why he's done so well at Millwall. But think Moore is a more multi-faceted player with a better reading of the game. My take is that Moore is a closer fit to Warburton's idea of the centre forward being a focal point, and is maybe more comparable to Hugill than Smith in this context. Strong, can lead a line, can rough up and disrupt defenders and score semi-regularly when converting crosses or poaching. But the key role is granting the attacking midfielders the chance to express themselves high up the pitch (and that'll likely still be the case whether Eze goes or not) - holding it up with a back to goal, holding off the CB while receiving the ball and laying it off quickly. My mate closely follows the Welsh national side and, while not supporting us, has a very unhealthy interest in QPR - he was at pains to point out why his role for Wales aligns with how QPR play. For Wales, Moore's job is to lead the line and create opportunities for Bale and Ramsey. It isn't about necessarily being the best 'overall' striker, it's about being the best at a particular role in a system. The fact he's trusted to do that and be on their wavelength says a lot about his football intelligence. In terms of how we play, it brings me back to Hugill's early interviews after we took him on loan. Fresh from talking to Warburton about the deal, he didn't wax lyrical about scoring, instead he said something along the lines of "just watch me, I'm going to get Eze more than 10 goals this season". I think that's a huge part of how Warburton sees strikers and Moore seems to fit that very closely.

Exclusive: Forward’s £5m transfer collapses amid Leicester City & Brighton hijacks By Wayne Veysey -21st July 2020 at 9:25am1 Share Bright Osayi-Samuel’s transfer from QPR to Club Brugge has collapsed amid Leicester City, Brighton and Fulham hijacks, Football Insider has learned. The forward, 22, had been granted permission from Rangers to head to Belgium to undergo a medical after they accepted a £5million bid from Brugge. But an industry source has told Football Insider the move has fallen through at the eleventh hour after Osayi-Samuel knocked it back. He opted against heading to the Continent for the medical and will be in the QPR squad for their final match of the season against West Brom. The Rangers mainstay had withdrawn from the team for Saturday’s Championship clash versus Millwall, which they won 4-3. But he is now set to finish the season at Loftus Road before deciding his future. That has opened the door for his other suitors, who include Premier League duo Leicester and Brighton and Championship promotion chasers Fulham. They have let it be known they are willing to match the £5m offer from Brugge for the wide forward after being impressed by his dazzling season in the English second tiers. Osayi-Samuel’s other previous suitors had been Leeds and Southampton, who expressed their interest during the January window. QPR knocked back enquiries for Osayi-Samuel earlier in the year and triggered an option to extend his contract by 12 months in February. But that deal expires in the summer of 2021. Osayi-Samuel has had an outstanding season for Mark Warburton’s side, scoring six goals and supplying nine assists from 39 matches in all competitions. www.footballinsider247.com/5m-transfer-collapses-amid-leicester-city-brighton-hijacks/

The offer was too low in my opinion. He surely has to be worth near 7 Million than 4. We havnt sold anybody yet though so we don’t exactly know what we are going to get for any of them but hopefully sell on fees for all three and a realistic market value.

Forward’s £5m transfer collapses amid Leicester City & Brighton hijacks Good. Let's hope we get some PROPER bids in now. A decent display from him in Wednesday's 'shop-window' match against West Brom might get a bidding war started. £26 million up front anyone (a la Bellingham deal)? But surely £8m might be possible...

Of course, he was a long term target for WBA. Then they blew automatic promotion and he was off to Brugge. Then Brentford blew it and now it is likely that tomorrow WBA will be in the top flight and looking for players with cash to spend. I would be surprised if Bright plays. Perhaps I am just a cynic.

I think that is being very negative harr. 1) BOS has performed at that level for just three months of his career. Yes, I would like more than £5 million, but I don't regard that as unrealistic, especially as he would go for less than that in January or for bnowt next summer due to his contract expiring. Before December we would have been lucky to receive £2 million. 2) Manning for £2 million. Again, I would like more, but I don't see him going for more than £3 million. His contract is in the same position as BOS. 3) You have valued Eze as the same as BOS. His value would IMO be at least three times miore & the club have reportedly stated that their valuation is £20 milliom. I do expect him to leave this summer, but at a fee of £15 million minimum. I feel this is an (understandable) trend across the messageboards on the topic of player values at the moment - people have figures in mind, almost always higher than that's rumoured, but I don't really understand why. For example, Terry's argued that BOS is probably in that price range cos of a bunch of mitigation - relatively short amount of time of playing at high standard in this division, only 12 months left on his deal etc. And I'd add in relative to the fee we paid for him (rumoured to be ~1m, give or take), his stock has risen dramatically. Plus Covid making this a buyers market and our reputation for developing and 'flipping' players for value being relatively new compared to say, Preston or Brentford. I'd also factor in that we don't look at transfers coldly. We do not just see "promising Championship winger who's hit good form this season", we see "a club is taking away one of our best players" - his relative value is far higher to us than the people at other clubs who write the cheques. I'd love him to go for £7m, but I can see why he wouldn't, for all the above. But I'd genuinely want to know the counter as to why he's worth more?

I am taking a more pessimistic view on this especially if he is back in the squad for tomorrow - how does Shodipo feel about that. Anyway if there are a couple of clubs interested in BOS they know what price we are willing to take and I doubt they will be pushing to exceed that by much if at all. In fact I would expect them to bid lower knowing that there are not many after him and if we do not offload him now either he can run down his contract or they can pick him up at a lower fee mid season (as per C Austin) It may also be that BOS has found out that the grass is not as green as he thought elsewhere and has decided his best option is to spend another year with us, in the hope he will improve further so he becomes a wanted man and then can pick up a good signing on fee as a free agent at the end of the season - and we get nothing. Club Brugge may have sounded like a good move but they are Belgian Champions playing in the European Cup next season. Whatever anyone thinks about the Belgian League which is not the strongest in Europe that would still be a big step up so maybe BOS has realised it is better to play every week for us than likely be a spare part in Belgium. Disagree with a few bits in that. On Shodipo, I think that if that was to happen, he'd be sensible enough to know what the deal is. It's the last game of the season, BOS is a better wide attacker than him - BOS was left out not to scupper a deal, if the deal falls through, he goes back in. Nothing personal and Shodipo knows he still has a good chance here. But again, speculation. I'm also not that sure that the Belgian top division is such a big step up for him. If BOS keeps up the level of ability he's done in the second half of this season, he'd do fine there. Not doing it down but playing in the European Cup is a bit of a red herring, standards-wise - it means they're one of the better clubs in Belgium, not one of the better teams in Europe. Yeah, a huge step-up if they end up playing Juve or Bayern in the CL, but that would be a massive step-up in opposition for every player in a Brugges shirt. I think it's a good step for him to potentially play in Europe, scouts are everywhere, it could lead anywhere for him. But I'm not convinced we'd get him to agree personal terms to uproot himself to a different country to sit on the bench at his age.
