I have just read that Queens Park Rangers have announced that the Stan game will be against Bournemouth.
Not the greatest draw in the world, but a very good footballing Premier side. This is a far better attraction than I thought we might end up with.
I may even watch a pre season match for the first time since???

Cherries pre-season clash on July 29th ...THE R's will play host to Premier League side Bournemouth in pre-season friendly action on Saturday 29th July, on a day when the club will commemorate Stan Bowles' contribution to QPR. The fixture, which will kick-off at 3.00pm at Loftus Road, will form part of the club's ongoing celebrations of our former players, in the wake of a successful first year for The Forever R's Club, our ex-players' association that was formed earlier this season. Bowles - who is suffering with Alzheimer's - will be in attendance at the match, as Ian Holloway's men go through their final preparations ahead of the Hoops' Sky Bet Championship season-opener the following week. Tickets for the fixture, which will go on sale at 10.00am on Monday 12th June, will be priced £12 adults / seniors and £6 under-18’s. QPR’s net proceeds from all ticket sales will go towards a newly-launched ex-players’ foundation, of which Stan will be the first recipient. The foundation, which will officially launch ahead of the pre-season fixture, is a charitable organisation that raises funds through public awareness and special events. The monies raised by the foundation will go towards the medical assistance, physical and pastoral care, and other requirements of Stan, and over time other former QPR personnel, including managers, players and staff. As it is a charity, monies raised via the ex-players’ foundation will be exempt from VAT and will also be eligible for Gift Aid. The Just For Stan Committee, who are working alongside the club on this fixture, told http://www.qpr.co.uk: “We thought long and hard about ticket pricing for this fixture. “Fans that were canvassed suggested that £20 would be a fair price but the Gift Aid route is more beneficial from a tax viewpoint. “We invite supporters to make a healthy contribution to the fund via the Gift Aid route to get us to at least the £20 entrance fee and hopefully well beyond that to show our support for Stan.” In the meantime, supporters can donate towards the Stan Bowles Go Fund Me account by clicking HERE. In addition, supporters wishing to keep abreast of all Stan related updates, and to register interest in purchasing tickets or taking up sponsorship opportunities, should visit www.justforstan.comSee you there Terry.

Tickets set to go on sale for Stan Bowles benefit match hosted by Queens Park RangersTickets for July 29 clash with Bournemouth on sale from Monday Preparations continue to take place at Loftus Road as Queens Park Rangers gear up to host Premier League side Bournemouth in a benefit match for legendary winger Stan Bowles on July 29. The now 68-year-old became a firm fan favourite during the 1970s during a seven-year stint with the Rs that yielded almost 100 league goals. However, Bowles, who will be in attendance for the match, is now sadly suffering from Alzheimer’s. All QPR’s net proceeds from all ticket sales for the clash will go to a newly-launched ex-players’ foundation, of which Bowles will be the first beneficiary. The funds raised by the foundation will go towards Bowles’ medical assistance, physical and pastoral care, and other requirements, and in future other former Rs personnel. Tickets for the clash go on sale at 10am on Monday, with adults and seniors £12 and under-18s £6. The Just for Stan committee, who are working alongside QPR in organising the match, told the club website: “We thought long and hard about ticket pricing for this fixture. “Fans that were canvassed suggested that £20 would be a fair price but the Gift Aid route is more beneficial from a tax viewpoint. “We invite supporters to make a healthy contribution to the fund via the Gift Aid route to get us to at least the £20 entrance fee and hopefully well beyond that to show our support for Stan.” For more information about the Just for Stan committee, visit www.justforstan.com. www.kilburntimes.co.uk/sport/football/queens-park-rangers/tickets-set-to-go-on-sale-for-stan-bowles-benefit-match-hosted-by-queens-park-rangers-1-5052119

Could potentially get into a whole lot of trouble with HMRC over this... Gift Aid can't be claimed on a 'donation' for which you derive any kind of benefit (ie, tickets to a football match).

I may be totally wrong here but I thought for events it was ok, if the money is going directly to a charitable/social organisation? For example, I had some American mates over and took them to some tourist-y places that were non-profit and all the tickets I bought were Gift Aid applicable, although I was paying entry to events or exhibitions (as in, stuff I'd get a benefit out of rather than it simply being a donation)?

Could potentially get into a whole lot of trouble with HMRC over this... Gift Aid can't be claimed on a 'donation' for which you derive any kind of benefit (ie, tickets to a football match). They've spent along time planning and organising this, I think they will have got it right. From the minutes of a Supporters Consultation Committee meeting in May this year: LH: There has been a breakthrough. People on the committee are now realising it is harder than first thought to organise this game. We can’t do a testimonial as Stan didn’t play for us for 10 years and there are VAT issues with a testimonial. There is a viable solution which is to do it through the Community Trust and set up a Players Foundation which doesn’t attract VAT. We still want the Foundation to be going in 20 years’ time, helping many former QPR players who are in ill health. Events such as golf days, dinners, quiz nights etc. can be done to raise money. Currently only 262 donations have been made to Stan’s Just Giving page which isn’t many at all. We as a club will be doing everything we can to promote the Stan Bowles Benefit Match at the end of July.
The SCC were in agreement that it is a good idea to keep the foundation going for many years.

STATEMENT FROM THE JUST FOR STAN COMMITTEE
You will have seen the recent press releases from the Club on both the launch of The QPR No. 10 Foundation and on explaining the structure of the pricing for Stan’s Benefit Match.
I am a member of the official committee and would like to take this opportunity to explain how we, as a committee, got to where we are as regards to the Foundation and Stan’s Benefit Match and to allay some of the fears expressed by some of the fans that the Club has in some way been obstructive in getting the match on. Nothing could be further from the truth.
The Benefit Match sees Premiership opposition at Loftus Road. Not only that, but in Bournemouth we have a team that plays open and attractive football. To get Bournemouth as the opposition is a fantastic achievement and the Club’s involvement in making this game happen should not be underestimated.
In the months leading up to the finalisation of the opposition, the Club and the owners have been instrumental in the formation of The QPR No. 10 Foundation. There has been talk in the past of a Foundation but previous owners of the Club did not see this as a matter of any great importance. Our current owners, with the full support of our CEO Lee Hoos, saw things differently. The Foundation is a fantastic new initiative. It is innovative and born out of the planned Benefit Match. The clue to the synergy between the two is in the title. The shirt number 10 is special at QPR and has been worn by some fantastic players but Stan will always be the most fondly remembered of all the number 10’s, so it is fitting that the Foundation is coming into fruition at around the same time as Stan’s Benefit Match.
However, in coming about at the same time as Stan’s Benefit Match it has possibly caused some confusion amongst fans who may have been thinking that the Benefit Match proceeds were solely for Stan. Whilst Stan will be the first beneficiary of funds generated from the Benefit Match, government and charity trust rulings do not allow Stan to be the sole beneficiary. The recent press release from the Club explains how the Foundation is structured.
This is my 50th year of supporting QPR. Like so many others, I idolised Stan when he played for us and I have been lucky enough to know Stan as a friend for many years when his playing days were over. He has supported the soccer schools that I ran many years ago and attended many charity functions with me over the years, and in doing so raising an inordinate amount of money for these charities.
As a member of the official committee I can wholeheartedly vouch for the assistance and integrity shown to Stan’s cause by Lee Hoos and all of the personnel within the Club. I have organised testimonials and benefit events in the past and they are not easy to organise. It is not as easy as simply picking a date and opposition as some fans might think. That might work in a Fantasy Football situation but it does not work in reality. Finding a suitable date and suitable opposition, is a most difficult task and one that becomes even more difficult when one has to ensure that the Club and the committee complies at all times with the rigorous rules and regulations that HMRC have in place, as well as abiding by the strict guidelines as set by the Charity Act.
The Club has also recently gone to great lengths to explain the ticket pricing strategy for the Benefit Match. I can categorically state that what we end up with is truly the best pricing structure that enables Stan to benefit to the maximum financially, given the strict parameters the Foundation will have to work within. Solicitors and accountants have all been engaged to ensure that the best structure is in best. I would not have stayed on the committee had it been otherwise.
Some fans might immediately pick up on the wording within that Club statement that explains the ticket pricing that talks of a minimum amount of £15,000 going towards the new Foundation. This is the wording required to make the statement HMRC compliant. The plan is for Stan to get the greater part of the £15,000 and this is just a minimum expected figure. With the good will and support of the fans we should achieve considerably more than that. The purpose of the Foundation is to take care of the needs of deserving players and that includes ongoing care, no matter how long that takes. The simple reality, to get this £15,000 figure higher, is for more fans to come along on the day and also for more fans to donate extra via Gift Aid.
Gift Aid is a fantastic tool in the fundraising arena and is the way we can increase incoming amounts by 25% (a fantastic percentage increase). The Club is making Gift Aid available for you to donate more than the standard ticket price so please use it if you can and please encourage others to use it,
At the end of the day, want to make sure we raise and continue to raise enough money to take care of Stan.
We, as a committee working for Stan and the Benefit Match, fully endorse what the Club has proposed and thank Lee Hoos and all at the Club for working so hard alongside us towards the ultimate goal of ensuring that gate receipts and donations are able to be used in the most tax efficient of ways.
At present there is £27,921 in Stan’s gofundme account. With Stan getting the greater proportion of the £15,000 minimum that we hope that the Benefit Match generates from straight gate revenue, together with the recent fund raising initialises will get us to around £45,000. We have the opportunity to get that figure to beyond £100,000 if as many of you as possible top up the ticket price by the Gift Aid donation route. Even at £20 (the £12 ticket price plus say a £8 donation) your admission would be considered cheap when compared against other such events – you will be seeing your beloved QPR pit our wits and skills against Premiership opposition . You will be able to see how we are placed for the coming season and you will be helping Stan. It will be the first game at Loftus Road since the end of the season AND the sun should be shining. So that has to be worth £20 plus of anyone’s money.

Sorry, I might be being really dumb here but has anyone worked out how to register their interest in tickets on the Just For Stan site? Is it via making a separate donation or..? - A link for ticket purchases (via the QPR site) will be provided as soon as they become available (presumably Monday). The justforstan.com site is purely an information website. It doesn't collect money. - To get on the JustForStan e-mailing list, use the "JOIN OUR MAILING LIST FOR UPDATES" E-Mail box. - To enter the draw for two W12 Club tickets use the "Father's Day 2017 - Win two W12 Club tickets!" - There are also separate e-mail links for Hospitality and Sponsorship - and for interest in the official Stan Tee shirts.

Really?! How low do we need to go when we are expected to be in awe of playing Bournemouth.
And to think it was only a few score years ago we were almost champions in England....dear oh dear....

While I understand your point, and obviously they are trying to hype up the match, how much better than Bournemouth do you think we could have got? All the big boys will be elsewhere in the world raking in loads of money in international tournaments and would have had little interest in playing us anyway. It would have been too expensive to fly in one of our opponents from our European campaign, so we get the side that finished 9th in the Premier League last season. Realistically, I doubt we could have done any better.

Brentford would of course have been an obvious other team - and even a Chelsea XI to help their neighbours Brentford would have been an obvious choice, but it would be unusual to play a team in the same division that close to the start of the season. We may have asked them and been turned down, or perhaps the extra policing costs may have been prohibitive. Chelsea will be in Singapore. Would playing their EDS team really have been a good last preparation for the season ahead?

I don't know how many times it has to be stated.
Bournemouth are a far better opponent than we could have expected for this match!
It is our last pre season game. Therefore, we need to play a side that is relevant footballing wise. And yes, it had to be on that day or probably never. I'm sure the attendance will be more than we had for our neighbours from Watford last season.
Also, stop moaniong about it. Buy a virtual ticket & you can support our past players without having to bother to watch such a "poor" attraction as Bournemouth!

Well I for one want to thank the committee for getting this organised and giving supporters the opportunity to celebrate one of our finest players and hopefully raise some much needed financial support for Stanley and his family. Alzheimer's is a most cruel illness - it might be Stan's last visit to the Bush and Loftus Road.
I for one will be there - I was worried that the game would sell out so bought a ticket early. I would have bought a ticket whoever we were playing as would many others I am sure.
Let's get behind the club and Stanley for this game.
Who's to say when the Brentford games come up (and I don't know when they are at the Bush) we can't raise some more money? Heavens knows Stan and his family will need it as his illness gets worse and he needs full time care.

From the Evening Standard www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/stan-bowles-benefit-match-could-be-legends-last-visit-to-qpr-so-lets-fill-loftus-road-says-don-a3593336.htmlStan Bowles benefit match could be legend's last visit to QPR - so let's fill Loftus Road, says Don ShanksGIUSEPPE MURO 9 hours ago Stan Bowles is among the finest players ever to wear the blue and white hoops of Queens Park Rangers, lighting up Loftus Road in the Seventies. His jinking runs and smooth skill dazzled defenders and in 1976 he helped QPR go within 14 minutes of winning the First Division. Four years ago, at the age of 64, Bowles was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Since then the unforgiving condition has steadily taken away his independence. He is now cared for by his daughter, Andria, in the part of Manchester where he grew up but a week tomorrow he will travel to London when QPR host Bournemouth at Loftus Road. The fixture is a benefit match for Bowles and all proceeds will go towards the long-term needs and care of the Rangers’ former No10. Don Shanks, his best friend and former QPR team-mate, thinks it will be the final time Bowles visits the corner of Shepherd’s Bush where he once delighted supporters. And Shanks is urging fans to help support one of their own by attending the game. “It is going to be the last time we will see him in London,” says Shanks. “His condition is getting progressively worse and I do not think it is going to be very long before he reaches a point where he has to leave the family and go into a full-time care home. “But when he comes to the Bush, for some reason, somehow, he knows where he is. And he walks on the field and for five minutes of his life even in his present condition he appears to come to life and feel at home. We want the place full so he gets to feel the regular and wonderful atmosphere that he has always had. “He was a great player for the Rs and back in the day he brought a lot of pleasure to a lot of people. “I do not think we will ever get another player like him, because he was a total one-off. Just a brilliant, beautiful football player. “If we cannot support Stan Bowles, we cannot support anyone. Without doubt he has been the best player at QPR, the most exciting, flamboyant player, who took us to level we would not have got to if it was not for him. “All the money raised can help Stan for his final journey. We want to make it as comfortable as possible and we think he deserves this.” Bowles made more 300 appearances for QPR between 1972 and 1979. A player full of guile, he was synonymous with an exciting side that also included Don Givens, Gerry Francis and Frank McLintock and competed at the top of the English game. Sadly, Bowles remembers none of his good times at Rangers. “I will make a phone call and Andria will answer the phone,” says Shanks. “Dad, Don is on the phone. Who? Shanks, Don Shanks. Oh yeah, yeah. Alright Stan? Yeah, yeah. You are coming to London soon. Oh yeah, London. Okay Stan, see you soon mate. “And that is as far as it goes. Stan was a people’s person. You get a lot of players who seem a little flashy and unapproachable. Stan was the opposite. He never blanked anyone, whether it was the dustbin man or a city high-flier. He would talk to everyone. He was the most easy-going person you could ever find. You get a lump in your throat when you think of him then and now.” Ticket sales have been slow and fans are being encouraged to buy them in advance. At least another 2,000 tickets need to be sold for the Ellerslie Road stand to be opened. Fans who cannot attend are being encouraged to buy virtual tickets, which will allow them to still support the day and they will also receive a copy of the programme by email. “We realise this was 35 years ago and there are a younger generation of fans now,” says Shanks. “We want the younger generation to embrace the day, bring their dad or their grandad and say, ‘You always told us about that player’. “We want to get the stadium full if we can. The chief executive, Lee Hoos, and everyone at QPR have been tremendous in making this happen. “It is now up to the fans to step up and ensure that Stan’s day is special and he gets the send-off from London that he so truly deserves.”
