Today's attendance is just under 10,000 which is pretty impressive

Where are the goals coming from? Desperate for someone up front and some width. Didn't look likely to score today and passing back from your the opponents half constantly doesn't help either

Wonder if IH favours Mas over Manning?

Only stayed for first half as I had seats in the paddock and was getting drenched (I know soft) but thought the team looked neat and should be competitive next season...impressed with Scowen on a small sample of his work. It'll be clearer next week whether we've got a team that will hold their own.

For all those who have supported Stanley (and anyone else) will we be told the gate receipts and the actual amount passed on to him?

Agreed - Scowen looked handy - quick, aggressive and intimidating (despite his small size). Something we've been missing in midfield. Expect a collection of yellow and red cards though! Massa looked good too. Ned looked surprisingly quick on a couple of occasions. No great surprises from others generally - although I thought Wszolek looked bit lost - not the game I thought he'd have. It really was a great occasion, shame we couldn't fill the ground, but still a good crowd. Yeni's free kick nearly capped a great day.

Agree with most, perhaps all, of that Ashdown.
It was a good workout for us, but it did highlight that we will struggle to score goals. We do look a better side when we move the ball quicker & more positively rather than turning backwards.
Before the game yesterday I thought I had a reasonable idea as to who would start against Reading. Now, I would say that there are a number of positions still up for grabs!

Scowen was the most impressive aspect for me - he looked aggressive, strong, alert and with a great eye for a pass. I was in the Paddocks and got absolutely drenched for my troubles but a really good day and it looked like Stan had a lovely time.

The thing that struck me most of all sitting in the paddock and getting SOAKED was how trim and fit the Bournemouth players looked. Totally different type of athlete. Maybe it was the Hoops but a few of our players in comparison looked overweight or bulked up compared to theirs!
As others have said Scowen looked decent and put himself about and could pick a pass. For me Luongo wants to many touches of the ball. Lost count of how many times a striker made a run only to be frustrated by Luongo not playing the pass quick enough!
I came away with two thoughts!
Where are the goals coming from? We are toothless up front!
And secondly what a poor defender Perch is! I've slagged Onuhah for a while but watching from the paddock rather than the Ellerslie I came away feeling sorry for him because when he's playing alongside perch he actually covering 2 position! He's always getting pulled out of position because Perch is out of position and Perch is mentally slow to recover. Times I saw it on Saturday amazed me and then Perch would turn to Wzoslec and have a go at him because he hadn't covered him! Wzoslec was up and down like a YoYO!

I definitely thought that from the paddocks too - particularly Mings. He seemed to stride at about 2 metres per step and was absolutely towering. I think a lot of that is the definitive difference between 'elite' players in the Prem and the step below. It's not as big of a gap as it used to be but it's still significant. My mate was arguing that that was part of the reason Bournemouth were able to press high but with half the effort - bigger, fitter players having that edge. Dunno if it was just the unfamiliar Paddocks view but Connor seems to have lumped on a lot of upper body strength and looked pretty top heavy (not necessarily a bad thing). Perch still awful at the back, yeah and still absolutely loves a mindless hard challenge through the back of someone in non-dangerous areas of the pitch. Still reckon he provides good utility cover if you sit him in front of the defence (the Hall role) but he's a poor right back.

Still reckon he provides good utility cover if you sit him in front of the defence (the Hall role) but he's a poor right back. Perch's versatility is his only asset. He seems slow to read the game, gives up possession needlessly and cannot distribute the ball with any accuracy. His performance at RB is only better than his performances at CB, where is does not ever seem to know where to stand. I don't think he would be much better at DM. I would never let him near the starting lineup but he would always be on the bench because he can at least give it a go in any position across the back and the middle. It's really frustrating that out of the list of CMs we have, there isn't any one of them that can play in the DM role to the same standard or better than Hall. It's actually a simple job, which when done effectively makes all the difference; break up play, close people down, get the ball and distribute it (or give it to someone who can). I bet even Mackie would do a better job there than most!

I bet even Mackie would do a better job there than most! I agree about how he is across the back but seeing him play at DM for us (I believe he did twice last season?) was the only time I thought he actually looked useful. Some of his damaging traits are quite useful there - he breaks up play, he's aggressive and doesn't give people time on the ball. And for all his faults, he's not a lazy player - he's got an engine and does the shielding role quite well. He's not Hall but who is? I'd rather he filled in as an average DM rather than a poor full back. I think you're right about not having someone with the same sheer range of stuff that Hall can do in the DM role. Borysiuk has the potential to be really useful as a DM but in a different way - a kinda quarter back role because of his decent distribution. I like the idea of pinging diagonals at Wszołek, Washington and Yeni.
