I'd understand if Fernandes wanted to keep Redknapp at QPR - but not necessarily as Manager -- as Advisor or "Director of Football" or Ambasador or whatever...And Maybe that's his intent

Wouldn't it be refreshing if a chairman offered a manager a new contract because stability of leadership was the most important strategy? Why is it so unheard of that a team might get relegated and NOT sack their manager?

The idea of stability is actually great.
But I guess it's Redknapp's age - The oldest manager in all four leagues - and his statement that he was prepared to retire if we hadnt won Playoffs (if one believes that!)

Recent legislation in the UK has been introduced to ensure the decision to retire lies with the employee and they cannot be force-ably retired unless they are unable to perform their job function.
And my opinion is that age should not come into it - if the vitality and capability is there then that is all that is required. Bobby Robson was still managing Newcastle at 72.
I think HR's statement on retiring was because it would have been a reaction to failure and not because he felt he was too old. If I suggested all the moderators on this board are too old and they should retire I would imagine I would get some adverse reaction!

Sir Donald Bradman, did not retire until, he was 452.

Pity we do not have Reagan as our manager now- I can imagine the pre match talk "Right boys I want you to go out and kick the ball and yes.... score a goal, score a goal....what's was that Nancy?,........Oh yes I almost forgot - win the game win the game!" Apologies in advance to any American readers it's only a laugh! The famed Motivational talk!

With you there, Rory. As most will know, I was totally anti-Redknapp from day one and nothing I have seen since convinces me otherwise. OK, there have been positives but there have been many more negatives.

With you there, Rory. As most will know, I was totally anti-Redknapp from day one and nothing I have seen since convinces me otherwise. OK, there have been positives but there have been many more negatives. Positives. My positives have been getting instant promotion despite many predicting we get relegated again and some more predicting some years swimming about in the Championship. My positives have been watching one of the most poisonous dressing rooms (agreed by all on here I think) get sorted out and moved on if they!re not up for it, whilst we get in players that most of us approve of. My positives include the belief that we will stay up this year. Negatives. Tottenham and Man U.
