IF we have signed a new goalkeeper this appears to be complete and utter financial madness. Just a few weeks ago we signed Rob Green on a reputed £50k a week. This equates to a salary of just over £2.5 million per annum or at an average season ticket price of £600, the income from 4300 season tickets holders. Assume the new keeper is on a similar deal (but it looks as if it may be more) the goal keeping positions at the club are the equivalent of the income derived from nearly 9000 season tickets. If he is to be replaced then who santioned him signing in the first place? We can't blame another manager/scout....or even Paladini on this one....who is going to carry the can? If he is so bad then why did we buy him in the first place? Form is temporary, class is permanent.....surely we felt we'd aquired a classy keeper?
Sorry Tony I think you've completely lost the financial plot here and I really fear for the Club. You weren't here when there were buckets in the street collecting small change to keep the Club afloat.
We all naturally want success and are in a great place today (thanks to you) compared to where we were with Briatore........ but I've been a supporter for 50 years and some of this stuff really scares me.

Although you did start a new thread to an ongoing topic... Much of what you say is that stuff that concerns me too. We just have to hope he and his associates know what they're doing. What I do know is that there have been countless examples of "Businessmen" coming to clubs and making very ambitious plans - sometimes (not always) with the best of motives. And crashed and burned. And in some ways, QPR are being the most ambitious of them all: With a goal of doubling or tripling Fan support on a permanent basis.

Dont forget the Mitthals are behind the curtain in most of the funding. I dont think its too much of a chunk out of their pocket. The stadium wil be, but thats part of the long term investment. I think thats the most important thing here. Building a squad good enough to break into the European spots, earn some prize money and build the fan base and club awareness, bringing more fans to hopefully and new and bigger stadium. If all goes to plan it will work out. Also youth system is key in bringing in good young players to avoid these big wages. I think we can just hold on until our place is firmly set in the Premier League. If that doesnt happen then start to worry. All we can do is cheer our team on to acheive the goal at the moment, and the rest will come.

The OP is still correct though in that, regardless of whether the money is coming out of a billionaire's pocket or not, it is sheer financial stupidity to sign a GK for around £40-50k a week and then a few weeks later sign another keeper on possibly higher wages.
As you can only play 1 GK per game you are now essentially paying £40-50k for a reserve team player. The Mittal's may well be able to absorb that contract but it still doesn't make what we are now doing financially prudent in any way whatsoever.
Like I said before, if they were unhappy with Green why didn't they look at loaning in a keeper to challenge him. Someone like Stockdale from Fulham (who, in all honesty, they should have made an offer for anyway) would surely have jumped at the chance to play regularly in the Prem instead of being loaned out to the Championship again.
Cesar is certainly a very good keeper and I have no doubt he will improve our defence no end, but that still does not necessarily justify the kind of money we have spent and are now going to spend on that position. Especially when a good CB (a position we should have spent top dollar on at the start of the transfer window) would surely sort out a lot of our problems at the back anyway.
Its pretty much a done deal now so moaning about it isn't going to change the situation. Therefore, the only thing we can really do now is be happy that we appear to have a world class keeper going to be playing for us.

The sad thing in all of this is that I genuinely believe that if Hennessey (Wolves) never got injured before the end of last season we would have bought him and prob paid about £30k a week for a solid #1 keeper.

Totally agree, i wouldve preferred a young keeper on the bench watching and learning without astronomical wages as well. The only logical option, which is what i think hughes was plannng, till he realised Green wasnt good enough. Just have to pay him out till next window then bring in a butland type to sponge off Cesar.

....till he realised Green wasnt good enough.... All of England knew about Green's mistakes...! As well as his quality. If our scouting system is not good enough and make this big of a mistake over such a well known player.... Over the years, some considered that I was just a little critical of Gianni over some of his signings.... Well the GReen Signing - and then the change of mind so quickly...is no better than many of Gianni's signings - and in many ways, worse than most.

For a start Green is on less than 42k a week.
That is the wage West Ham offered him to stay which he refused, his deal with was apparently for less than WHU offered.
The way in looking at this is that Cesar is quality, a player we could never imagine us signing.
If we were to get a young keeper though I would either go for Ron-Robert Zeiler from Hannover or Sven Ulreich from Stuttgart

Should have got Butlad but we're all going to repeat ouselves on a third thread about our keeper signings. For further detail I revert to the daddy thread and Cesar thread as I can't be arsed to repeat it all again. Don't let that stop anyone though and you carry on MB10. ;D

i sincerely hope Green has the sense to stay away from forums, because in my view some were just waiting for him to fail so they could roll out the usual nonsense.whether we had signed Cesar or not detracts from the fact that Green plays for us and deserves to be given a fair crack of the whip.

It was nothing to do with it not being enough for him, he wanted to leave anyway as he had fallen out with Sullivan and Gold. He is on less here than what West Ham offered him

A few similarities: both ex-internationals, both served the former club for years, both felt unwanted at the start of the season. Green is taller though

Just watching SSN. The breaking news ticker is showing that we have signed Julio Cesar from Inter Milan and Villa have signed Joe Bennett from Middlesbrough. It maybe madness, I may fear for the long term future of my club, but my God it could be worse.

Cesar cracking signing but something tells me Tony is not aware of financial fair play - our wage bill is 183% more than our annual turnover, I mean this is just crazy and I have my doubts.

Surely Financial Fair Play only affects us if we reach a European competition, IIRC?
