Interview with Anton Ferdinand: ANTON: FAN-TASTIC TOUR SO FAR Posted on: Sun 22 Jul 2012 Anton Ferdinand is relishing the opportunity to head to another country with the R's First Team squad on Sunday, admitting he's been overawed by the response from the Asian fans. Rangers fly to Indonesia this afternoon, ahead of Monday's friendly against Persebaya and Ferdinand is relishing the chance to meet another new set of QPR fans. "The response from the fans out here has been remarkable," he told www.qpr.co.uk. "The fans over here are very enthusiastic. They love their football. "They love seeing the famous faces, the likes of Djibril, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Ji and the rest of the guys. "Football means the world to these guys. "I knew the Ferdinand fan-base was bit before I came here, but I didn't realise how big. "It's an incredible feeling seeing so many QPR shirts when we're so far from home." Ferdinand also spoke positively about the tour in general, adding: "The Club has come such a long way in a short space of time. "We're moving at a great speed, but for very positive reasons. "Coming out to Malaysia has been a great experience. "The owners are from this part of the world and it must be an incredibly proud moment for them all that they are watching their Club in their home country. "They've worked hard all their lives for this. It's very rewarding for them. They must be so, so proud." www.qpr.co.uk/page/AsiaTour/0,,10373~2856680,00.html

www.qpr.co.uk/page/AsiaTour/0,,10373~2856704,00.html NEDUM: A REAL BUZZ Posted on: Sun 22 Jul 2012 Versatile R's defender Nedum Onuoha admits he can't wait for the big Barclays Premier League kick-off, as the countdown to the new season edges ever closer. Speaking in Kuala Lumpur ahead of a flight to Indonesia this afternoon, the former Manchester City ace revealed the buzz in the QPR camp is great, with just less than four weeks to go until Rangers play host to Swansea City at Loftus Road. "There's a real buzz about the Club at the moment," he told www.qpr.co.uk. "It's great to see everyone gelling so well and we're all really looking forward to the start of the season." Onuoha believes the R's pre-season tour of Asia will stand them in perfect stead for when the squad return to West London on Wednesday morning, commenting: "It just shows how far the Club has come in a few months that we are in Asia for a pre-season tour. "When I think back to the Four Year Plan and then I look at the QPR of today it's incredible. "The heat out here is something else, but you have to do these things in pre-season. "Most of the players are used to training in the heat at this stage of pre-season, so it's not something that is that new to us all. "It's a challenge, but we're all coping okay."

www.qpr.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10373~2856730,00.html BOBBY: ALL ABOUT NOW Posted on: Sun 22 Jul 2012 Bobby Zamora has admitted he has been looking forward to the 2012/13 season from the moment he arrived at QPR in January. The R's striker is currently with the rest of the squad in south-east Asia preparing for the new campaign, and he revealed today that the vision for the coming season and beyond was the key factor in him switching Craven Cottage for Loftus Road. "That's certainly how the move was sold to me," he told www.qpr.co.uk ahead of the team's flight to Indonesia for the final leg of their tour. "It was a case of getting some more players in, consolidate ourselves in the Premier League and then kick on this season. "We have added some good players to the squad this summer and my understanding is we are looking to add one or two more as well. "I am sure the calibre of those players will be brilliant and only strengthen us further." Zamora scored in both fixtures in Malaysia, netting the opener in our 5-0 win against a Sabah Select XI on Tuesday and adding the fourth when the R's overcame Kelantan by the same scoreline on Friday night. "It's nice to score goals but it has been just as nice to get a feel for the ball and get some passes going," he added. "Everyone has been happy with how the games have gone and now we want to do similarly well in the final match against Surabaya." Off the pitch there has also been plenty of activity for the QPR squad, with the media and fan interest in the Club reaching fever pitch. While some players have been suprised by the passion shown here, Zamora knew what to expect. The 31-year-old was part of the Fulham squad that toured South Korea in 2008. "We had a big player in Seol Ki-Hyeon and, just like Ji (-Sung Park) here, he was absolutely adored wherever we went," Zamora said. "The Malaysian fans love the Premier League and they make us feel like proper superstars while we're here, which is a bit weird! But it has been nice to come here and see this part of the world. "There has been quite a bit of travelling, and bits and pieces to do but we have been pleased with the two games so far and how training has been, so it has gone well. "It can be hard with the jet-lag but this is our job and we're certainly not complaining. We get on with it and we do it."

Rare Wright-Phillip goal crowns five star QPR display - match report Sun 22nd Jul 2012 19:15 by David Rowe www.fansnetwork.co.uk/football/queensparkrangers/fb_news.php?storyid=17603Cold weather forecast for hell as Shaun Wright-Phillips finally scores a goal in QPR colours. David Rowe was there to see it, as Rangers continued their Asia Tour with a 5-0 win against Kelantan. The last time I visited the Shah Alam Stadium there were 80,000 people present for the 1994 Malaysia Cup Final. At the time it was the most futuristic looking ground I had ever been to and it is still hugely impressive if a little dated these days. It was a bit disappointing that the attendance at kick off time on Friday night looked to be around 12,000 but it transpired that due to a perfect storm of Friday evening Kuala Lumpur traffic, rain and the start of Ramadan, many were delayed and when the crowd eventually finished arriving mid way through the first half, it appeared to be about double the number in attendance at kick off. The official figure was later given as 31,000 but that seemed a little exaggerated to me. Still impressive though when you consider Shah Alam is in the state of Selangor and it was therefore an away game for both teams. As in Sabah, it was great to see so many locals wearing last and next-season’s hoops, red and white quarters and even the mango monstrosity. It is strange that I found the sight of people wearing half and half Kelantan/QPR shirts endearing when the half and half scarves on view at Old Trafford in April almost made me physically ill. It was also great to see the Kelantan fans enthusiastically supporting their own team whereas in Singapore the locals regularly cheer on Man United or Liverpool against their own national side. Rangers lined up with Rob Green in goal for the first time since his summer move from West Ham behind a back four of Fabio, Anton Ferdinand, Clint Hill and Armand Traore. The midfield was made up of Jamie Mackie, Samba Diakite, Hogan Ephraim and Shaun Wright-Phillips. Adel Taarabt played just behind Djibril Cisse who was used as the lone forward. Kelantan are Malaysian Super League Champions and included all seven of their foreign players in their squad. In domestic games, they are limited to including between two and five foreigners depending on the competitions. I would guess that this made them around League One standard and they were certainly a greater challenge than Sabah had been. They were much more physically imposing but despite this they still had a diminutive goalkeeper who looked like he had been recruited from the local primary school. In this part of the world you often see sights at games that you never dreamed you would see. In the first half here we saw two. The first was two guys on motor bikes racing around the internal concourse of the stadium in full view of the pitch in some sort of bizarre wall of death display. The second, even more astounding some would argue, was Shaun Wright Phillips scoring a goal in a QPR shirt. He finished calmly after a typical barnstorming run from Diakite and a clever pass into the area by Taarabt. This goal seemed to transform Wright Phillips and he went on to have a superb game full of endeavour, clever turns, back heels and runs at defenders. He looked a different player to the one who had found very different ways to make a mess of three one on ones with the keeper in the Sabah game. Hopefully this is a turning point for him. Unfortunately Cisse limped off after the goal clutching his hamstring and was replaced by Andy Johnson who has the best player on view in the Sabah game. The word on the Frenchman is an absence of around ten days but that is still a concern. Rangers controlled the half without ever looking like increasing their lead. In fact, at the other end, Green had to make a good low stop from a shot from distance. Kelantan also missed a header from close range following a left wing cross but this was the only clear chance they created in the game. In the second period Brian Murphy replaced Green, Miachael Harriman came on for Traore with Fabio switching to left back and Nedum Onouha replaced Hill. On 52 minutes Taarabt played an outstanding through ball to Harriman who stepped neatly inside a defender before scoring with his left foot with as little help from questionable goalkeeping. At this stage all the creativity was coming from Taarabt who seems to enjoy these sorts of games where he can indulge himself with his tricks in areas that would result in a bollocking in a Premier League matches. Harriman was clearly chuffed to have scored and he looks like a good prospect. On the hour mark Bobby Zamora, Matthew Connolly and Michael Doughty replaced Taarabt, Ferdinand and Diakite. Young Max Ehmer later came on for Fabio who has looked very impressive in both games - although it is difficult to judge defenders when they are put under so little pressure. With 73 minutes on the clock Ephraim caught Kelantan napping from a long Ehmer throw and crossed low for Mackie to score at the far post. After 82 minutes a fine Doughty pass found Heiday Helguson who had replaced Johnson by this point and he squared for Zamora to tap home from close range. Doughty looked a little lost out wide in the Sabah game but played well in a more central role here. He later played a cross field ball to Ehmer who in turn crossed for Helguson to convert. Ehmer is one of the most solidly built footballer I have ever seen and has a barrel chest Dave Mackay would have been proud of. That ended the scoring and it was a good all round performance with Wright Phillips deservedly getting the Man of the Match sparkling apple juice or whatever else passes for Champagne in a Muslim country during Ramadan. My family and I were lucky enough to stay at the same hotel as the team in both Sabah and Kuala Lumpur and I am delighted to report that it seems a happy camp. It was very apparent talking to support staff that they all have nothing but admiration and respect for both Phil Beard and Tony Fernandes both of whom also made a point of coming over to us for a chat when they saw us in the hotel bars. It seems unbelievable that the Four Year Plan documentary was only two years ago and I firmly believe the club is in very good hands indeed. Long may it continue. Tweet @loftforwords

www.qpr.co.uk/page/AsiaTour/0,,10373~2857430,00.html FABIO FEELING FRESH Posted on: Mon 23 Jul 2012 New R's loan star Fabio Da Silva is loving life at QPR - and it appears the Asian fans love him too! The Manchester United full-back - who has penned a season long loan at Loftus Road - is one of the stars of this tour, with his every move worshipped by the thousands of Asian fans who have blown everyone away with their support of the R's. Speaking exclusively to www.qpr.co.uk, the Brazilian youngster said: "It has been a really enjoyable tour. "The players and staff have been really good to me and all of the other new signings. "There is a really nice spirit in the team and everyone is looking forward to the new season." Fabio produced a man of the match display against Kelantan on Friday night and now the young starlet is looking to round off the R's tour of Asia in style with another victory against Persebaya in Indonesia tonight. "I feel really good," he said. "We have done a lot of travelling but I feel very fresh. "The first two games went very well and hopefully we can finish the tour with another win tonight."

www.qpr.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10373~2857465,00.html EHMER: GREAT TO BE PART OF IT Posted on: Mon 23 Jul 2012 QPR youngster Max Ehmer says you "live for moments" such as the ones he has experienced while in Asia with the rest of the First Team squad. Ehmer, another product of the Club's youth department, featured in both fixtures in Malaysia and is expected to be involved again this evening when the R's take on Persebaya Surabaya in Indonesia. "I have really enjoyed the tour, it has been a great experience," he told www.qpr.co.uk from the team hotel this morning. "I've played in the games, visited a local school and got to understand the culture of this part of the world." One of the unforgettable scenes of the tour occurred late on Sunday night when the squad arrived at Juanda International Airport in Surabaya for the final leg of their stay. Fans waited for hours to greet the squad, chanting 'Welcome, welcome, welcome QPR!" and Ehmer admits he was blown away by the experience. "It was a mental reception," he said. "We got to the airport and there were literally hundreds of people waiting for us. "And then on the bus to the hotel hundreds of bikes followed us, beeping and taking pictures. It was really good and great to be a part of it. You live for moments like that." Ehmer has been joined on the tour by fellow youth products Michael Doughty and Max Ehmer, and all three have performed well when given match time. Right-back Harriman even managed to score his first goal for the senior team, netting in our 5-0 win against Kelantan. "The three of us have come here determined to grasp this opportunity we've been given," Ehmer said. "I think we have done alright. "Hopefully we can keep going, continue to train with the First Team and help to promote the name of the youth department, along with all the other lads who are coming through the system." As for Harriman's strike, Ehmer added: "He seemed to try and give it some with the celebration afterwards so we got on to him about that! "It was a great finish though, a nice touch inside and then he banged it in the bottom corner, it was a great goal." And with the final match of the tour this evening (which is being streamed live!), Ehmer is keeping his fingers crossed for more match minutes. "Hopefully I will get another run-out and we can win the game," he said. "We all want to make it three wins from three. It will cap off what has been a good tour for us."

HILL: AN EYE-OPENING EXPERIENCE Posted on: Tue 24 Jul 2012 As the Rangers squad prepare to head back to London following last night's 2-1 victory in Surabaya, Clint Hill was in reflective mood as the R's inaugural tour of Asia nears a conclusion. Speaking exclusively to www.qpr.co.uk, last season's Player's Player and Supporter's Player of the Year revealed the experience of this tour will remain with him forever. "It's been an eye-opening experience, that's for sure," said Hill. "The travelling has been hard at times, but what we have done we've done really well. "The lads have equipped themselves very well, with good application both in training and in the three matches. "We've been welcomed with open arms wherever we've gone, so it's been a pleasure to be involved in. "It's been a great experience and hopefully we've put the Club on the map over here now for many, many years to come." Hill skippered Rangers against Persebaya on a night each and every player will never forget owing to the incredible atmosphere generated by the Indonesian supporters. He added: "It was fantastic. "In terms of numbers, it felt like double the 55,000 at some stages throughout the 90 minutes. "They never stopped singing. There were fireworks, flares and even when the black-out happened the atmosphere got even better with all the fans generating light with their mobile phones or whatever else. "It was a remarkable atmosphere and I really enjoyed being part of it. "I think we were the first Premier League team to ever play in Indonesia and you can see how passionate the locals are about their football. "It was a really special night." The 2-1 win ensured Mark Hughes's squad remained unbeaten for their three-match tour. Hill added: "It was another good workout for the lads. "It's all about game-time at this stage of the pre-season campaign, but make no mistake, everyone loves winning. "If we can take that into the start of the season we'll be buzzing come the opening day." www.qpr.co.uk/page/AsiaTour/0,,10373~2858558,00.html

Nedum Onuoha has paid tribute to the Indonesian football fans - dubbing last night's atmosphere in Surabaya as the 'best he's ever played in.' Over 55,000 supporters were packed into the Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium, as Rangers came from behind to round off their Asia Tour in style with a 2-1 victory against Persebaya. Adel Taarabt and Bobby Zamora scored the all-important goals, but it was the atmosphere as opposed to the game itself that was the major talking point in the post-match interviews. A convoy of over 1,000 motorbikes followed the R's to the stadium, before Rangers were greeted on their arrival by a near-capacity crowd. Flares, fireworks, chants and even a stadium black-out added to the incredible atmopshere throughout the 90 minutes. "That's the best atmosphere I've ever played in," Onuoha told www.qpr.co.uk. "It was incredible from the moment we left the hotel to make our way to the ground, but the atmosphere inside the stadium itself was unreal. "It's great to see how passionate the fans are out here and that's one thing that has really hit home throughout this tour. "It wasn't intimidating, because they were friendly in their manner and just really wanted to support their team. "It wasn't really hostile, just incredibly loud, passionate and exciting." The R' head back to London later today, landing at Heathrow in the early hours of Wednesday morning. After 12 days on tour and experiences aplenty, Onuoha insists his first trip to this part of the world is one he will never forget. "I won't forget this trip for a long, long while," he said. "Some of the things I've seen and heard will stay with me forever. "The passion the Asian fans have for football is incredible, and that was epitomised by the Indonesian people last night." www.qpr.co.uk/page/AsiaTour/0,,10373~2858542,00.html
