A nickname. Despite the lack of hills out in the dengie marshes my more sophisticated friends refer to us as hillbillies, unless you're from tillingham, when you are a tillbilly. May change it at a later date to something in honour of Jude the Cat.

My name hasn't been seen much on here lately, been a lot busier since I went back to work.
It's my Subbuteo nom de doigt, based on the park across the street and a certain team from W12. I was initially refused access to this board because the name was too similar to cpr...

Entirely possible. You might not have been to the dengie, but if you have seen Shrek, his hometown will give you an idea. I'm sure the junior Rs bit of the programme at the time said he was off to a cat's retirement home, but I've not always trusted the messages put out by our club's owners in the past.

Mine has to do with supporting the Bills, the Buffalo Bills and coming from a place where waterbuffaloes are common, waterbuffalo has been my username from 2004 (banned from both Bills sites) but still in a third one. It was also how I met my ex wife, apparently she was dazzled by my writing. I pretended to be a yank, you see..

I play poker for a living and The Camel is my nickname.
It comes from the first time I ever played a big poker tournament, the buyin was £3,000 or so.
I was doing pretty well, down to the last 3 tables when they had a 15 minute break.
I wandered over to the bar where my mate had been stationed for about 10 hours, cheering me on (he had a small % of my action)
I said to him "Paul, you've been here hours, I hate to say this but I think you've got a bit of a drink problem"
"Me got a drink problem? I'm not the one playing the biggest tournament of his life who when he gets a break doesn't go outside for a bit of fresh air to think about his strategy, instead he runs to the bar for a pint!"
I said "I haven't got a drink problem, I can go days without a drink"
"You're a F***ing camel then"
I actually made it to the final of this tournament and was really nervous.
When it came to introduce the finallists to the crowd Paul had a word with the MC and he introduced me as:
"In seat 4, from London, England it's Keith "The Camel" Hawkins!"
The nickname has stuck..

i could write a book on my username, (i'll wait untill gramps has brought his out) maude (lovely lady) and her husband run a fish and chip shop on latimer rd w10, in the middle to late seventies i was given my pocket money and spent it on watching QPR. after every home game, on my way back home, my family got me to 'pop' into maudes on the way home from the game, i had to buy fish n chips for my aunts, uncles, nan, mum, brothers and sisters, and cousins. which in numbers was about 20. not only did i buy for 20 of my family, but next door to maudes was a pub called the volunteer, which my dad was in at the time, and all his mates, so that was another 10 or so fish n chips. maudes husband used to moan every time i walked through the chip shop door,(he moaned out of habit) but always gave me a bag of crackling and scraps because i got him a programme, which he payed for. maude always said to me on the quite, that QPR ,and my orders, was the only thing that made him happy. food of the gods, and part of my QPR upbringing great chippie if I remember correctly Maud, me, its where I live

'ere Mac, your comment re people using different names to post on the orig.dot - you're not aware that we knew who those identities were by a few simple clicks? It was all part of the madness of the most exciting vibrant and original medium that I ever encountered, an iconic example of football related nonsense at the start of the MB's, never equaled, will never be replicated. And yes, I was many of those names.

My user name is similar to my real name. Once when I was 12 I got a prescription filled at the chemists but as I was walking out of the shop I noticed the name on the bottle was 'Gregus Meus'. So I went back to the counter and asked why it wasn't in my name. The pharmacist showed me the script the doctor had written (in hand in those days). My name on it was in typical doctor's scrawl and was all but illegible. The pharmacist did well to get as close as he did!
My dad has called me gregus or gregusmeus ever since. (It means 'My Greg' in Latin, coincidentally enough).
