And by issuing that statement clearly left the impression that QPR were not playing China. Period! -

Bump January 23, 2007, after reports in the press that QPR would be play a friendly against China, the club issued a statement/denial on its official Site:

"Correction: The Club has had it brought to its attention that Ceefax and
Teletext are reporting a game between QPR and China on February 8.
We would like to confirm that no such fixture is taking place at Loftus Road
and we have already asked both parties to remove the story. No China Game."


Of course the subsequent QPR-China Training ground scrimmage truly was "The Shot heard around the world!" After the brawl, Paladini promised a no-sleep investigation. The club never announced anything re the players. Only Richard Hill was moved on/out.

- The Chinese Olympic team's two-week England tour schedule has been confirmed with Ratomir Dujkovic's men expected to arrive in London on February 1, according to the Chinese Football Association.
- China will go up against the Chelsea reserves on Feb. 5 and two more friendlies await the team on February 8 (League Championship side Queen's Park Rangers) and 14th (League One side Brentford) before the squad returns home on February 16.
Queen's Park Rangers is standing at 21st at the 24-team League Championship with 30 points, one position above the relegation zone. Brentford is at the bottom of League One with 22 points. ..... Source: Xinhua

It may be an error/"Failure to Communicate" (or maybe not) but AP is reporting that QPR are playing China, February 7 at QPR's training ground, Sipson Lane. In an AP Story "China's Olympic team trains with Chelsea" AP reports "..The Chinese team will play a Chelsea reserve team at Griffin Park on Feb. 5, then face Queens Park Rangers at Sipson Lane on Feb. 7, and Brentford at Cobham on Feb. 13."

QPR China "Brawl" Aftermath Continues. After the "incident" Chairman Paladini was quoted by the press as pledging he would "work 24 hours a day to find out what happened. I hope we can find out something by Saturday." (The only one I'm aware of who got in trouble was our Assistant Coach, Richard Hill)

If you had a child who answered like QPR did...Well they didn't say anything that wasn't true. But the clear intent certainly appeared to be to leave an impression that no QPR/China encounter period.

.....and today China played Australia in the Asia Cup quarter finals. Lost 2-0 with Tim Cahill scoring both goals, one a spectacular scissors goal and the other a trademark header but with a twist - it was from distance. We could do with a Tim Cahill at QPR!

"The Great Brawl of China". I remember it only too well. Dodgy (John Nelson) & I were the "Mods" on the Official Club messageboard. Dodgey had the Day Shift and I the Night Shift. Never before or since have I had to delete so many racist and offensive messages from "fellow" fans. We were handing out 3-5 day bans to give people a chance to calm down and think through what they had said. Fortunately I was on work days off so had the time and I was on there for more than 12 hours over lapping with my Late friend (RIP Dodgey). A very sad week for QPR and the fans. Not something I was nor am proud of.
