A signing by Sousa: Shefki Kuqi Swansea Official Site
Swans set to sign the 'Flying Finn' Posted on: Mon 25 Jan 2010 Swansea City are set to sign Finnish international striker Shefki Kuqi on an 18-month contract. The striker agreed terms at the Liberty Stadium this morning and the paperwork has gone off to the German FA and Football League for clearance. Kuqi, 33, will move on a free transfer from German Second Division side TuS Koblenz where he had struck seven times in 17 games this season. Known as the 'Flying Finn', he will meet his new teammates later today ahead of tomorrow night's Championship clash with Coventry City (7.45pm). "I'm moving to a club that is doing really well,'' explained Kuqi. "I had a good game at the Liberty Stadium for Crystal Palace last season and scored one of the goals. Hopefully this will be a lucky ground for me. "I know Swansea like to play the game the right way and whether they play one or two up front I don't mind. I like to put myself about and I can't wait to get started. I'm buzzing. "I missed out in the play-offs with Ipswich on two occasions, so I'm sure this will be third time lucky for me.'' Kuqi in action against the Swans for Crystal Palace at the Liberty last season Swans boss Paulo Sousa was delighted to add Kuqi to his squad. "I'm sure that a player with his experience and maturity can only help us at Championship level,'' said Paulo. "He will help us improve. "He is a quality striker who will add something different to our squad so that we can keep doing well in every game and be successful.'' After starting his career as a youngster in his native Kosovo, Kuqi moved to his adopted homeland of Finland as a 19-year-old. He spent five years with Mikkelin Palloilijat, HJK Helsinki and FC Jokerit before his eight-year affiliation with English football started with a move to Stockport County in January 2001. He helped The Hatters retain their First Division - now the Championship - status before switching to Sheffield Wednesday 12 months later. His most prolific spell came at Ipswich where he struck 31 times in 81 appearances between 2003 and 2005; his form at Portman Road earning him a move to the Premier League with Blackburn Rovers. A year at Ewood Park saw a return of seven goals before a reported £2.5m move to Crystal Palace. In three years with the South London outfit, which also saw him go out on loan to Fulham and Ipswich, he scored a further 18 times. Following his release from Palace last summer, Kuqi linked up with his brother Njazi at German 2. Bundesliga (Second Division) side TuS Koblenz. At international level he is a key fixture of Finland's national team and has seven goals from 58 caps for the Nordic state. www.swanseacity.net/page/Latest/0,,10354~1943646,00.html

Don't think many other sides would have had a look in.
"Daddy, got any players you can lend me please? Thanks, Daz"
Can I start making up a rumour that we're trying to sign Robert Snodgrass please? He'd be good if Routledge does one.

Manchester City's Robinho to join Santos on loan
Robinho has featured sporadically for Manchester City so far this season
Manchester City's unhappy Brazil international Robinho is to join his former club Santos on a six-month loan. Santos will assume Robinho's contract, including his wages and bonuses - although he has agreed to a reduction - until the loan ends on 4 August. "He is someone who needs to be playing regularly and we wish him well," said City manager Roberto Mancini. The 26-year-old forward scored his first goal of the season in City's 4-2 FA Cup win over Sc**thorpe on Sunday. Robinho, who cost a British transfer record £32.4m when he arrived from Real Madrid in 2008, was keen to return to Brazil as he attempts to ensure his selection for the World Cup. The possibility of an extension to the contract continues to be a dream but we believe that dreams can come true Santos president Luis Alvaro de Oliveira Ribeiro After a promising start to his City career, Robinho's form deserted him and he has started only eight games in all competitions this campaign, prompting links to Barcelona. Robinho won the Brazilian championship twice with Santos and helped them reach the 2003 Libertadores Cup final before leaving for Real. "At the beginning I thought this (loan idea) didn't go beyond a distant dream but when I spoke to the player I realized that his will would be fundamental," said Santos president Luis Alvaro de Oliveira Ribeiro. "The big difficulty was the financial operation, despite Robinho being prepared to take a pay cut to play for Santos again. From then on, we set up a financial enterprise to make the signing viable. 606: DEBATE Either he comes back rejuvenated or goes to a club for a good amount 1st January 2017, tick tock "Robinho will hand over his image and become an advertising model during the period of the contract with Santos. "In exchange for that, there's a financial input to cover the demands of a great star. Santos will pay barely a small portion of the salary within our means. "Robinho, with his charisma, his performance on the pitch and his image of an idol, will attract better sponsors to Santos and all this at zero cost to the club. "The possibility of an extension to the contract continues to be a dream but we believe that dreams can come true." He said Robinho would be officially unveiled at a big event next week and could make his debut against Sao Paulo on 7 February.

BBC - Leeds snap up Birmingham City forward Gary McSheffrey McSheffey's last goal for Blues came against Man City in March 2008 Leeds United have signed forward Gary McSheffrey on loan from Birmingham City until the end of the season.
The 27-year-old, who has made nine appearances for the Premier League side this season, goes straight into the squad for the visit of Colchester.
Leeds boss Simon Grayson told the club website: "Gary brings plenty of experience and he is a good signing.
"He will add quality to the squad. He is a threat and he can play a number of positions," he added.
McSheffrey joined Birmingham in a £4m deal from Coventry in 2006, scoring 16 goals in his first season at St Andrew's to help Blues win promotion to the Premier League under then manager Steve Bruce.
But he slipped down the pecking order following the arrival of Alex McLeish and had a month-long spell on loan at Nottingham Forest last season.

January so far for us:
In: Ikeme, loan until end of season Matt Hill, loan (end of season, right?) Quashie, free transfer, end of season
Out: Helguson, loan Agyemang, loan Hall, loan Routledge, sold (undisclosed fee value of sale has been cited as from about 1 million and up to 2 million pounds.)
Have I missed anyone? Questions that arise: - Has this reduced the wages at the club, good thing if so. - Anymore players incoming in the last days of the window? As more or less all of his predecessors Harford has asked for strikers and we have been told by "ITK:s" of various places that we are going to sign strikers. - Is this loaning out/selling and mostly loaning in players a strategy to sell off in order to reduce debt and sell the club or just an effort to get rid of players not wanted anymore to make room for new ones. That is, rebuilding?

Puncheon Joins SouthamptonSouthampton Official Site - Puncheon Joins Saints Posted on: Sat 30 Jan 2010 Saints have completed the signing of midfielder Jason Puncheon from Plymouth Argyle. The highly rated 23 year-old has penned a three and a half year deal for an undisclosed fee. He spent the first half of the season on loan at fellow League One side MK Dons, playing in both games against Alan Pardew's side in the league and the first leg of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Area Final. Puncheon has found the back of the net on seven occasions in this campaign and offers versatility in attack where he is at home on either flank or further forward. He has played for the Dons in both the FA Cup and the Johnstone's Paint Trophy this season so is therefore cup-tied for both as Saints push for success in three competitions. The Croydon born midfielder has featured for the Dons more than any other Club in the early part of his career, having originally signed as a young Wimbledon player in 2003 he was a member of the very first MK Dons squad under Saints' Chief Scout Stuart Murdoch at the start of the 2004/05 season. Despite a promising start with the Dons, Puncheon joined Barnet in the summer of 2006 and, after two outstanding seasons with the Bees, he became one of the most sought-after players in the lower leagues and subsequently joined Plymouth Argyle for £250,000 in 2008. After making just a handful of appearances for the Championship side at the start of the 2008/09 season, he re-joined MK Dons on loan initially until December and then until the end of the season after a brief return to Home Park. Puncheon (right) gets to know Morgan Schneiderlin in the JPT tie at Milton Keynes earlier this month. His ability and impressive performances saw a host of clubs put on alert for his signature at the start of this season, but Paul Ince swooped to take him back on a season-long loan at stadium:mk which has now been cut short as Alan Pardew makes his fifth signing of the January transfer window. The Saints manager explained that Puncheon is a player who will bring something a bit different to the side and is looking forward to working with the player. "It's been a complicated transfer because of the situation with MK Dons and Plymouth, but we are very pleased to have secured him," Pardew said. "He is a bit of a maverick footballer and I think the side could do with a bit of individual flair which he brings. He will help us control games from either the wide or central areas as he can play anywhere across the midfield and he gives us real competition to an area that I felt we needed to strengthen. "What interests me about him is his character, he wants to win and he does it in a different kind of way to most footballers. He travels with the ball, can take people on and create things. Potentially he has some improving to do as well, so that intrigues because we don't know just how good he can become. "We are now finished for this second half of the season in terms of transfers, and this team now will have to see how far it can go in terms of getting us as close to the play-offs as possible, possibly winning the Johnstone's Paint Trophy and progressing in the FA Cup." www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~1949524,00.html
