I thought we could have a thread for interesting signing but other clubs (R's related or not). I kick off with the highly touted John-Joe O'Toole surprisingly signing for Colchester. www.football.virginmedia.com/page/Football/Championship/Headlines/0,,12555~1920466,00.html? Colchester boss Aidy Boothroyd has completed his second permanent signing of the January transfer window by securing the services of John-Joe O'Toole. The Watford midfielder, who played 19 games under Boothroyd during his loan spell, has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal at the club. This latest boost follows the news that Kayode Odejayi also turned his loan into a permanent move on a similar deal. "If we can be successful and keep winning, then we'll keep players," Boothroyd told Colchester's official website. "It's all about timing - I haven't come here to be an Arthur Daley type, selling players all the time. "I've come here to win. With the players we've got, I think we've got a good chance of sustaining success and we have our targets to help strengthen the squad. "I don't want to sell players that have done well and I want to keep everyone together to push on."

Goodwin, 28, has found opportunities limited at Huddersfield this season, making just seven appearances. Both players are set to be in the squad to face Hartlepool on Saturday.

www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/leagues/premierleague/liverpool/6922070/Liverpool-to-sign-winger-Maxi-Rodriguez-on-loan-from-Atletico-Madrid.html?Liverpool hope to conclude a six-month loan deal for Argentina winger Maxi Rodriguez in the coming days. But manager Rafael Benítez must first free up space on the club's wage bill by offloading striker Andriy Voronin. The Ukrainian has not featured for Liverpool since the 1-1 Champions League draw in Lyons and was last week pictured on holiday in Miami with his wife, Yulia, as his club faced two crucial Premier League games against Wolves and Aston Villa. Voronin has been told he is surplus to requirements at Anfield and Benítez would be prepared to sell him, with Moscow clubs CSKA and Dynamo both understood to be considering £1.5 million bids. The Liverpool manager hopes to add at least two attacking players to his squad, while the injury sustained by Glen Johnson in the win at Villa Park means he may seek a short-term loan deal to bolster his cover at right-back. Rodriguez, meanwhile, has found himself on the fringes at Atletico Madrid this season. His contract expires at the end of the season and Atletico are resigned to losing him for nothing in June. Rodriguez, though, knows he must play regular first-team football if he is to earn a place in Diego Maradona's World Cup squad. Juventus, Merseyside rivals Everton and the Argentine clubs Boca Juniors and Newell's Old Boys are also believed to be monitoring the situation, though Rodriguez is thought to be tempted by the prospect of rejoining former team-mate Fernando Torres at Anfield.

And at QPR we wait:
I'm assuming Raheem Sterling will be going this month (Club probably it's spin article for how to depict it. As they did when Parrett was sold)
And let's see what we get: At one end we get Simpson on a permanent deal; Quashie supposedly; and two three others. At the other end, we get more drek for big money and low return.

Heres exactly the sort of player / prospect we should have been looking to sign if that side of things at our club wasnt so blatantly crooked.
Just like the time when Holloway wanted to buy Sylvain Ebanks-Blake for £200 grand, but Paladini went out and bought Nygaard instead.
One of hundreds of examples of financial mismanagment of the club.

Vital/Colchester: Lisbie Left Out For Preston Cup Clash Kevin Lisbie did not travel for Colchester`s FA Cup fixture with Preston after the striker`s Ipswich loan was extended for one possibly final club game. The U`s leading scorer this season was due to re-join Roy Keane at Ipswich this week but the Irishman belatedly cleared the Cup-tied Lisbie to play for United this weekend. Lisbie`s final game of his loan spell was due to be Monday`s encounter at Southampton until the media speculated that he might pull on a United shirt once more. Perhaps manager Aidy Boothroyd was not prepared to disrupt his match-day plans without the Jamaican or maybe Lisbie`s exclusion foregrounds the fact that he may not return on a permanent basis, despite his wishes. BBC Radio Essex speculation as to Lisbie`s next career destination pre-match included Championship teams Queens Park Rangers and Crystal Palace.Financial limits might mean that Lisbie's second spell could be his last for Colchester. www.colchester.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=183191

The often linked Jason Roberts www.tribalfootball.com/blackburn-invite-offers-roberts-mbe-547511?Blackburn Rovers are inviting offers for Jason Roberts. The Sunday Mirror says Rovers have put striker Roberts up for sale – just two days after the 31-year-old was awarded the MBE in the New Year’s Honours’ list. Manager Sam Allardyce has told other clubs he’ll listen to offers for the 31-year-old front man who has hit 17 goals in 50 starts since his £3million move from Wigan in 2006. Roberts, honoured in the New Year’s list for charity work in his native Grenada, has just 18 months left on the contract he signed just before Allardyce took charge. But Allardyce wants to raise cash to change around his front line, with South African Benni McCarthy also likely to move on.

Colchester carry on their swoops with the signing of Nobby Solano www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12874_5829932,00.html? Former Newcastle and Aston Villa midfielder Nolberto Solano expects to sign for Colchester United in the next few days. The 35-year-old flew to England over the weekend expecting to thrash out a deal which will see him join the League One outfit for an initial six months. Peruvian Solano, who also played for West Ham, is fresh from helping homeland club Universitario win the nation's top division last month, and believes he has a long-term future in the English game. "I'm going for six months to play for Colchester United," Solano told news website El Comercio. "Talks are already at an advanced stage and I'm travelling to complete the deal. "It's a lovely opportunity at 35 years of age to still be considered. My plan is to end my career as a coach and look for work there (England). "If I can play another year so much the better," he added. Colchester United finished 12th in League One last season, but have promotion aspirations this term and currently occupy fourth place in the table.

More re Cardiff and Steve Reid Wales online Reid and Delph focus of Bluebirds boss Jones’ spying missionJan 4 2010 by Terry Phillips, South Wales Echo DAVE Jones went on a Villa Park spying mission after Cardiff City’s FA Cup tie at Bristol City was postponed. The Bluebirds manager had talks with chairman Peter Ridsdale about transfer targets before setting off to watch Villa beat Blackburn Rovers 3-1 in the third round. The Echo understands that Blackburn’s Steven Reid and Villa youngster Fabian Delph are both on Jones’ radar as possible loan signings. Reid, the Republic of Ireland international, underlined his progress after long-term injury problems and proved his fitness with a 90-minute display. Former Leeds ace Delph also shone in a rare first-team outing before going off ill at half-time, to be replaced by Steve Sidwell. Rovers were down to 10 players when they had El Hadji Diouf sent off during the first half and Reid’s fitness was tested to the full. Ridsdale was also due to take in an FA Cup match and left Ashton Gate with the intention of going to the Wigan-Hull tie, where Jason Koumas was among the players involved. Jones has already made a couple of enquiries about Koumas, but the former Welsh international is not keen to drop down to the Championship from the Premier League. Reid would be an ideal signing for City if the Bluebirds can persuade Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce to loan him out. The 28-year-old joined Queens Park Rangers for a month, returning during December having made only two appearances for the London club. Jones needs midfield players who can step in and do a job immediately and Reid certainly went a long way towards proving that by completing the 90 minutes at Villa. He has only played in cup-ties for Blackburn this season and Allardyce might welcome the chance to send him out to build up match fitness. Delph went off feeling unwell, but that is not a long-term issue and the key for Jones with the Yorkshireman is whether Martin O’Neill would allow him out on loan. Villa have a two-legged Carling Cup semi-final this month, again against Blackburn, and O’Neill may want the youngster involved. “The manager was out watching players on Saturday and we fully intend to strengthen the playing squad as soon as possible,” promised club chairman Ridsdale. “Dave has given me a list of players who would fit the bill and we are working on that.” More than 10,000 Bluebirds fans have snapped up season tickets for 2010-11 to hand Jones a £3m January war chest. “The chairman has promised that all the money that comes in will go to bringing in players,” Jones said last week. “Up to £3m has been mentioned and if that’s the case we could do a lot of damage with that. “For the first time since I have been here we are able to push on during the January transfer window.” Cardiff hope to bring in at least one player, possibly two, in time for Saturday’s Championship home game with Blackpool. With Stephen McPhail (thigh) and Gavin Rae (broken fingers) now ruled out by injury and Riccy Scimeca retired, the Bluebirds have big issues through central midfield. Joe Ledley is playing on despite a problem with his hips and will have benefited from the rest provided by the postponement of the FA Cup tie at Ashton Gate. The real loser from that postponement was teenage midfielder Aaron Wildig, who looked set for a first full-team debut. Now, though, City will hopefully have new players available for Saturday. If they are out of the Premier League on loan then it is probable they won’t be able to play in the rescheduled FA Cup tie tomorrow week – and that could hand Wildig his chance after all. www.walesonline.co.uk/footballnation/cardiff-city-fc/2010/01/04/reid-and-delph-focus-of-bluebirds-boss-jones-spying-mission-91466-25517063/

No Wiltshire to Championship Clubs... Mirror Arsenal star desperate for Premier League loan move Published 23:00 04/01/10 By John Cross Jack Wilshere is desperate to become a Premier League star - after turning his back on a loan move to the Championship. Arsenal teenager Wilshere, 18, would like to go to boyhood heroes West Ham, while Burnley and Portsmouth are also keen to snap him up in January. Arsene Wenger is keen for the England Under-21 starlet to go out and play regular football after his disappointing performance in the FA Cup third round at West Ham on Sunday. Wenger believes he needs games to boost his development and if he cannot get that in the top-flight then the Arsenal boss would consider dropping him down a division. But self-confident Wilshere has made it clear he wants to stay in the Premier League and that is the reason why Celtic’s interest has cooled. Several Championship clubs have enquired about Wilshere but the midfield prodigy - tipped to be the biggest English star since Wayne Rooney - is not keen. Wilshere has seen his progress at Arsenal blocked by the wealth of midfield talent in front of him, while teenager Aaron Ramsey has also overtaken him in the pecking order. www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/West-Ham-Portsmouth-Burnley-and-Celtic-on-red-alert-as-Arsenal-star-admits-he-is-desperate-for-Premier-League-loan-move-article277807.html

David Cotterill completes permanent Swansea move David Cotterill scored his first Swansea goal in their FA Cup defeat to Leicester Wales international David Cotterill has completed his permanent move to Swansea City from Sheffield United to sign for a club record fee.
The 22-year-old striker has signed a three-a-half-year deal for £600,000.
Cotterill has been on loan at Swansea since November and scored his first Swans goal in their FA Cup third round defeat to Leicester on Saturday.
The 15-times capped Welshman had been at Sheffield United for almost two years since joining from Wigan.
Cotterill joined Wigan Athletic for £2m in August 2006 but made just 18 Premier League appearances in 18 months, prompting a July 2008 move to the Blades after an initial loan spell.
He struggled to hold down a first team place at Bramall Lane and left for south Wales in November.
Cotterill had been slow to start at the Liberty Stadium but his stunning 30-yard strike at the Walkers Stadium on Saturday showed his potential.
"I'm delighted its all finalised," said Cotterill.
"As far as I'm concerned I've joined the best footballing side in the Championship.
"I've come here to play football and I aim to keep working hard, get myself in the starting XI on a regular basis and chip in with a few more goals.
"It's not going to be easy because there are some good players here and the team is doing well.
"But I hope to stay here for a long time and help the club move on. There is no reason why we can't finish in the top six this season."

Patrick Vieira joins Manchester City's £100,000 clubPatrick Vieira, one of the more formidable competitors to grace the Premier League, has returned to English football as part of Manchester City's money-no-object bid to be recognised among the sport's leading forces. The former Arsenal captain was in Manchester tonightto finalise the details of his contract and take a medical examination and has been lined up to make his debut in Monday night's game against Blackburn Rovers. Four and a half years since leaving England, the man whose clashes with Roy Keane came to epitomise Arsenal's rivalry with Manchester United will join the growing band of players at City to be paid in excess of £100,000-a-week, initially on a six-month contract but with the option of another year written into the terms. The 33-year-old has lost his place in the France national squad after being marginalised at Internazionale under José Mourinho and said he was returning to England to further his ambitions of playing in a fourth World Cup. "I set myself an objective – I want to go to the World Cup," Vieira, who has not played in a competitive fixture for France since September 2007, said. "The important thing for me is to go to Manchester City and to show the coach [Roberto Mancini] I'm the same player as when he was in charge of Inter." Vieira played his final match for Internazionale in a 1-0 victory over Chievo last night. "He was great in his last game for us," Mourinho said. "He is a player that we will certainly miss now that he is leaving. It was the best way to say goodbye to us and I wish him all the best in his new life." City have not been short of accomplished central midfielders, with Gareth Barry, Nigel de Jong, Stephen Ireland and Vincent Kompany all in contention, but Mancini identified Vieira because he felt the club were short of a player in that position who had experience of winning the Premier League. Mancini has come to think of City as lacking natural leadership and Vieira, a veteran of France's 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000-winning side could conceivably take the captaincy from Kolo Touré, who is currently away in the African Cup of Nations. The arrival of such a high-profile player is the first major piece of business since the transfer window opened and nobody will be surprised that it is City who have made the opening move. Mancini is not planning the kind of wholesale changes that typified Mark Hughes's time in charge, but he now regards strengthening the team's defence as a priority and has identified another of his former players from San Siro, the Colombian Iván Córdoba as a possible target. The partnership between Touré and Joleon Lescott has been erratic, at best, and both players would be under threat of their places if Mancini can negotiate successfully with his former club again. www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010/jan/07/patrick-vieria-manchester-city-internazionale?

Only a rumour though this one seems to come out every January. Nuno Gomes to West Ham www.imscouting.com/global-news-article/West-Ham-and-Livorno-in-race-for-Nuno-Gomes/4857/?Livorno are challenging West Ham for the signature of Benfica striker Nuno Gomes , according to Portugese daily A Bola. The Portuguese hitman played in Serie A with Fiorentina from 2000 to 2002 and is currently the captain of Portugese giants Benfica. He could be moving on in January and local newspaper A Bola names Gianfranco Zola's West Ham, Livorno and Greek side PAOK Salonika as possible destinations for a move. Zola will hope that his reputation in world football will help tempt the vastly experienced Gomes to Upton Park. At 33 years-old, the Portugese veteran still has an eye for goal having netted 4 times in 13 appearances this season and could provide a boost to West Ham's battle against relegation. Livorno are also fighting against the threat of relegation from Serie A and their biggest problem is the lack of goals. This season they have netted only 11 goals in 18 games, easily the worst scoring record in the division.

I'm pretty sure we've been linked with Kilgallon in the past and Moyes is a shrewd in his purchases. www.imscouting.com/global-news-article/Everton-favourites-to-sign-Blades-defender-Kilgallon/4853/?erton manager David Moyes is set to capture Sheffield United defender Matthew Gilgallon but only in time for next season. The 26 year-old centre-back is out of contract at the end of the season and Everton boss Moyes would rather sign him in the summer for free than pay a large fee now. However, in return for his patience, according to The People, Everton will offer Kilgallon a five-year contract worth about £8million to the player. The 6ft defender reportedly turned down a move recently to Newcastle United and Everton are set to pounce. Kilgallon's arrival could spell a Goodison Park exit for Joseph Yobo .

David James to Stoke on loan www.goal.com/en/news/9/england/2010/01/14/1745241/stoke-city-sign-portsmouth-goalkeeper-david-james-on-loan?Stoke City have signed Portsmouth goalkeeper David James on loan until the end of the season. Potters boss Tony Pulis had earlier confirmed that the club were in talks to sign the England goalkeeper, and was hopeful that a deal could be included in time for the 39-year-old to face old employers Liverpool this weekend. Pulis believes James can add further competition for the No.1 jersey at the Britannia Stadium, but refused to quell speculation linking stopper Thomas Sorensen with a move to Bayern Munich. In an earlier interview Pulis said: "We'll have to see if the two clubs can come to a deal and we're hoping it will be tied up for the weekend, but it will have to be right for us", said Pulis. "If we can get him we'll be absolutely delighted because if there's a weakness [in the squad] it's been between the sticks in respect of having competition and back-up. "We lost Thomas immediately before the Fulham game and if anything had happened to [deputy] Steve Simonsen, then we wouldn't have had a goalkeeper. "It would have been a tragedy for us, and it really opens up your eyes. "So we've an opportunity to bring in a top-class goalkeeper because we have heard he might be available." James has been out injured for much of the campaign to date, but he was expected to return to action in Portsmouth's FA Cup replay against Coventry City this week. However, the former Watford, Aston Villa, Manchester City and West Ham United custodian was absent once more, with reports claiming that his representatives were in talks with the Potters. James is desperate for first-team football to enhance his chances of representing England at this summer's World Cup and the Stoke boss believes that desire strengthens his chances of signing the veteran. "You are signing a goalkeeper of real quality, and if he comes here he has a few months' football to play," added Pulis. "Sorensen has done brilliantly, so they will both be fighting for that one spot, but he [James] has something to prove as well. "He'll want to be on that plane to South Africa, and that attracts me to him more than anything else. He is desperate to play for England in the World Cup. "So if we can bring him in and give him the opportunity to prove he is the best goalkeeper in England, and he proves that, then we'll be delighted." Pulis also believes that James' arrival would also minimise the impact of Sorensen's departure, if the Dane decides to leave the club. "We've heard the rumours that there are clubs in Europe who fancy Thomas, and it makes it more important that we cover ourselves," said Pulis. "If Bayern Munich, Manchester United or Chelsea come in for Thomas, he would want to better himself like everybody else does, just like [Cristiano] Ronaldo wanted to go to Real Madrid. "But it [goalkeepers] is a fragile area. Hopefully we're covering it by bringing in David."

A deal to bring Caleb Folan to Queens Park Rangers has collapsed, Vital QPR understands.
Folan was being lined up as a possible January signing, but with the club undergoing change in recent weeks, the deal has now fallen through for the time being.
The striker's future has been in doubt ever since he had a public spat with Tigers boss Phil Brown, and is currently sidelined with a torn hamstring.
Meanwhile Vital QPR understand that deals to bring Daniel Cousin and Nigel Quashie to the club still remain with the latter poised to become a free agent.
Cousin's future will be decided once he returns from the African Cup of Nations - where his form has been sparkling, scoring the solitary goal in Gabon's win over African giants Cameroon.

Related links Teams Manchester United Preston North End Players Danny Welbeck Also see Sky Sports experts Transfer Centre Fantasy Football Skysports.com understands Preston are planning an ambitious swoop for Manchester United starlet Danny Welbeck.
Preston boss Darren Ferguson, son of United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, has admitted he could try and use his connections at Old Trafford to bolster his squad.
Welbeck is regarded as one of the best young prospects to come through at United in recent seasons and is tipped for a big future in the game.
The England Under 21 forward has made 11 appearances for his club this season, but the recent arrival of Mame Biram Diouf has pushed him down the pecking order in Sir Alex Ferguson's plans.
Wigan are also thought to be tracking Welbeck as they look to reinforce their attacking options before the close of the transfer window.
It remains to be seen if Sir Alex Ferguson would be willing to loan out Welbeck with his side still competing in the Premier League and UEFA Champions League.
