Mike Kelly Turns 66 tday Signed the day as Rodney Marsh. Backup to Peter Springett for the League Cup Final Played his part in our 67/68 promotion race (including the last few games of the season - and the final win at Aston Villa Played 1/3 of the games in our relegation Played most of the games in 69/70 Then sold to Birmingham when we bought Phil Parkes. We paid about the same money for Parkes as we got for Kelly!

remember mike kelly well he had a most unusuall way of kicking the ball leting it hit the ground then catching it on the upwards bounce he was a stylish goalkeeper but phil parkes signed by les allen from walsall for 15 thousand pound was sensational my favourite ever goalkeeper

Saw his QPR debut in 70/71: (a 1-3 or 1-4 home loss to Leicester, as I recall) and even on that first game, looked very good. (Remember the 'imposter' Phil Parkes who was a goalie for Wolves at the same time)

Before Phil signed we were blessed with two very ordinary keepers. Kelly with rolled up sleeves and drop kicking and Spratley who could'nt touch the crossbar but knew how to get the ball out the back of the net.

I remember Spratley! He was something like 5 foot 10 inches. After a couple years backing up Parkes, think went to Swindon.
Three of the reasons why QPR got just 18 points in 68/69: Mike Kelly...Alan Spratley...and Ron Springett (who at this stage, and still young for a goalie, was past his prime)

Yep Spratley went to Swindon with another clown Mick McGovern.

Alan Glover! We got 70,000 for him after Seven games. (Which in those days was a lot of money). Same amount we paid for Terry Venables. And we "only" got 110,000 for Roger Morgan
