16 years ago and a couple of days (as posted on the messageboard):First the reliable rumours: OUT at QPR: After Numerous Years as QPR's Club Secretary, Sheila Marson Reportedly Departs - Not yet announced by the club; her name remains on the Staff Directory. But there are numerous reliable messagbord posts re the departure of Club Secretary, Sheila Marson. Marson came to QPR from Chelsea. She was originally the Assistant Secretary to Ron Phillips. Then the Official QPR Announcement November 24, 2008QPR Confirm "Club Secretary Sheila Marson's Employment was "Terminated"- QPR Official Site - SHEILA MARSON - November 24, 2008 Queens Park Rangers Football Club can confirm that Club Secretary Sheila Marson's employment has terminated, as of today, Monday 24th November 2008. The details surrounding Ms Marson's departure are confidential and therefore, it would not be appropriate to make any further comment at this stage." QPR As I wrote at the time "And that's how after a quarter of a century or so at QPR, this is how it's announced. [No information about the reason for Marson's departure (but one erroneous rumour: It was NOT because she was responsible for that supposed "insider" email that was circulating and that the Daily Mail published.] Statement from QPR1st Over Her Departure Sheila Marson - November 25, 2008QPR1st are saddened and shocked to hear of the news that club secretary Sheila Marson has left the club. Sheila has been a part of Queens Park Rangers Football Club for a period spanning four decades and is very much part of our history and is widely respected up and down the country by the footballing community. She deserves the utmost respect and recognition for her work during this period and QPR1st would like to express our gratitude for everything she has done for the club. QPR1st
And this was Ben Kosky/Kilburn Times
Kilburn Times - Thanks for your help, Sheila -CLUB secretary Sheila Marson was sacked by QPR this week after more than 30 years of service at Loftus Road. - Rangers' official website stated: "The details surrounding Ms Marson's departure are confidential and therefore it would not be appropriate to make any further comment at this stage." - It's sad that the people now ruling the roost at Rangers are too mean-spirited to even offer any words of thanks for Sheila's years of loyal service. - However, the Times would like to place on record our appreciation for Sheila's help over the years. We always found her a friendly person and efficient administrator - and genuinely part of the rapidly-diminishing Queens Park Rangers 'family'. - Thank you, Sheila, and all the best for the future. This was the Daily Mail Article on Briatore based on "The QPR Insider" ( Nico's) email www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1088407/EXCLUSIVE-QPR-owner-branded-dictator-nasty-piece-work.html Charles Sale/Daily Mail - EXCLUSIVE: QPR owner Flavio Briatore branded 'a dictator and a really nasty piece of work' A QPR insider has launched an astonishing attack on owner Flavio Briatore, claiming the Formula One tycoon is hated by everyone at Loftus Road. In a powderkeg email leaked to Rangers fans, he describes Renault's Grand Prix boss Briatore as 'a dictator and a really nasty piece of work' who wants to pick the team himself. The author, whose identity cannot be revealed, urges the email's recipients to use his inside information to stir up trouble but not to reveal the source. It was copied to fans after last Saturday's home defeat by Burnley which led to caretaker boss Gareth Ainsworth being replaced by Paulo Sousa. More...HATCHET MAN: Just like his prospective new manager, it appears that QPR chief Briatore needs to learn a few things Helguson becomes Sousa's loan Ranger but Flowers departs QPR The email, written by someone with intimate knowledge of the club, asks: 'How much is Flavio really costing us? Flavio wants a proper manager to replace Ainsworth but he still wants to pick the team. 'Believe me, from (sporting director) Gianni Paladini downwards to everyone working at QPR, including nearly all players, anyone who has met Flavio absolutely hates him and what he's doing to the club. He is impossible, a dictator and a really nasty piece of work. But nobody can speak out because he will finish them if they do.' The insider goes on to pose a series of questions: 1 How much are QPR paying ex-boss Iain Dowie to sit out the remainder of his contract (almost two years), surely with tax must be over £2million. Who is paying for this? 2 Is it true Danny Parejo (striker on loan from Real Madrid) is getting £40,000 per week from QPR? Who is funding this and why? How are we paying for that? 3 How much do Matteo Alberti, Samuel Di Carmine and Damiano Tommasi cost us and who decided to bring them to QPR when nobody else was going to pay them such wages? How are we paying for it? 4 Why is agent David Manasseh permanently in the QPR boardroom and C-Club sitting by Flavio. What is his role and how much is he paid or paying for the privilege? 5 How many seats have actually been sold in the C-Club, instead of handed out to Flavio's friends? 6 Is it true Flavio is going to the training ground regularly and berating players - and many players are getting fed up with QPR? 7 Why did Flavio not celebrate Dexter Blackstock's goal today (anyone around could see)? Is it because he does not like Blackstock and wants to ship him out like he has done with Angelo Balanta to make way for Di Carmine? 8 With so many empty seats today, and given co-owner Bernie Ecclestone now has his own serious personal problems and Flavio doesn't have that much cash and won't put his hand in his pocket, how is the club funding the massive wage bills Flavio has built up? Surely it must be millions a month now, who is paying? Does Flavio really expect the (co-owner) Lakshmi Mittal to bail him out in January when he refuses to let them (the co-owners) have any say in the club? They aren't mugs. Manasseh said he was often seen at QPR because he had paid for two seats in the C-Club - believed to have cost him £20,000. Last night QPR declined to comment." www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1088407/EXCLUSIVE-QPR-owner-branded-dictator-nasty-piece-work.html I do of course have Nico's email, But given that the email itself is not "out there" I can't post that.

At the time, a number of posters speculated that it was Sheila Marson who had written the email. I of course knew that was not the case. (I remember having a series of offline exchanges with one of the posters - who for whatever reason seem to have only negative/snide things to say re me ( NOT one of the 'usual suspects')
As posted at the time:
Charles Sale/Daily Mail' ...Queens Park Rangers, a club in meltdown behind the scenes, yesterday parted company with highly-regarded secretary Sheila Marson, who has been at Loftus Road since the 1970s. It's understood Marson, whose many tasks included sorting out contracts, no longer fitted in with the Flavio Briatore regime" Daily Mail
[Beyond the curt QPR announcement (see below), there was no additional information given for the cause for the departure of Marson, who worked with several QPR Chairman; numerous QPR Managers; hundreds of QPR players; and thousands of QPR fans. Some messageboard posters ( eroneously speculated that Marson was responsible for that supposed "insider" email which the Daily Mailwrote about.]
Responding to this messageboard rumour: Dave McIntyre on BBC 606: "...I think it's inevitable given the timing that people will speculate that the e-mail you're referring to came from Sheila Marson. It didn't." BBC 606
[How QPR announced Marson's Departure
"QPR Official Site - SHEILA MARSON

Charles Sale/Daily Mail - HAPLESS QPR deputy managing director Ali Russell pulled out of his scheduled appearance as a Soccerex convention panellist in Johannesburg on Tuesday because of the turmoil at Loftus Road following the sacking of secretary Sheila Marson. Russell, who was replaced by the far more qualified Spurs commercial chief Paul Barber, had been due to speak on how to attract, manage and deliver the perfect sponsorship partnership - negotiations which, at QPR, bypass him but involve owner Flavio Briatore. i had the privilege of bumping into Sheila Marson in the summer just gone. For me this was a highlight of my QPR supporting years, as the only other time i met our legendary secretary was when i was pestering her in the early 80's for players autographs! i told her how well respected she is to all QPR supporters and how saddened we all were when she was no longer at our club. Sheila was overwhelmed with the support she got from QPR fans at the time, and has the utmost respect for all those that wished her well. She told me that she still manages to go to games and that she is aware of this site and would look in now and then. Sheila plays a lot of golf these days. Attachments:
