Queens Park Rangers have completed the signing of striker Kevin Gallen from Barnsley.

Gallen returns to the club where he made his name by breaking Jimmy Greaves' youth goalscoring record in 1992.
The 26-year-old, a lifelong QPR fan, has agreed a deal that will keep him at Loftus Road until the end of next season after a relatively unsuccessful spell at Oakwell.

"I'm absolutely delighted. I never wanted to leave in the first place, things happened but that's in the past," he told the club's website. ...

"QPR are my team, I'm delighted to be back and can't wait to pull on the blue and white hoops once again. I'm over the moon.
"It's happened really quickly and now I'm looking forward to Wednesday night and the derby against Brentford on Saturday."

Gallen re-signed for Rangers on a free transfer on Monday and he took just three minutes to make an impression as his clever flick put Doudou away and he slotted home.
On eight minutes Rangers made it two and Gallen was at the heart of it again.

He crossed to Steve Palmer to shoot and though Robins keeper Bart Griemink made a brilliant save, he couldn't prevent Oliver Burgess scoring from the rebound.
The game was all over before half time as on 36 minutes Gallen grabbed a debut goal.
He beat Andy Gurney before storming into the box and firing into the corner.
Swindon had most of the possession in the second half but it was QPR who had the last word when in injury time Karl Connolly put away Andy Thomson and he rounded the keeper before slotting in the fourth.

GALLEN ENJOYS RANGERS RETURN

KEVIN GALLEN enjoyed his return to Loftus Road in a Huddersfield shirt - despite having a second half penalty saved by Ludek Miklosko.

Kevin said:" It was good for me to play at Rangers again. It was nice to score too. It was strange to come back here and see all the old faces and to get warmed up at the opposite end of the pitch.
"When I scored, I looked for my dad in the crowd. He was pleased and I gave him the thumbs up. He gave me the thumbs up back, so that was nice. He appreciated it. Dad supports QPR, but blood is a lot thicker than water and I'm his son. It's as simple as that.

"Then Ludo made a good save from my spot kick. I hadn't taken a penalty for a long time, but our usual penalty taker wasn't playing. So I thought I would have a bash at it. I thought I hit the penalty quite well. If Ludo had dived the other way, it would have gone straight in the corner.

"I got a good clap from the Rangers fans at the end, but they gave me a bit of stick during the game which I really didn't understand. My contract was up at the club during the summer and I had to move on to get a game because I wasn't in the Rangers team last season.

"After I missed the penalty, I got the loudest chant of the match from the Rangers fans! It was quite good actually! They were chanting my name so that was all right!

"I still love QPR. I had some great times with the club and I still have a lot of friends at Rangers. But I'm playing for Huddersfield now and I have a loyalty to them to do well."

Kevin Gallen: Mixed afternoon for Huddersfield striker
Former QPR striker Kevin Gallen scored Huddersfield's first goal in almost 11 hours of football but then missed a penalty which would have sealed a valuable win for his side.

It may only be November, but this game had a definite relegation feel about it with Rangers winless in nine matches and Huddersfield with only one victory in 17.

Lou Macari's men started much the brighter and could have been in front after just two minutes when Ben Thornley cut in from the left and forced Ludek Miklosko to palm the ball away for a corner.

It took Gallen just seven minutes to show Rangers what they were missing as he returned to haunt them with a goal.

Thornley's corner was headed against the crossbar by Martin Smith and Gallen was the first to react and hook the ball into the net.

Nervous

Rangers looked nervous and the Yorkshiremen looked likely to increase their lead as the lively Thornley took charge.

He crossed for Smith to head inches wide and then picked out Gallen at the far post for another chance which went over the bar.

He tried himself on 27 minutes, hitting a shot from just inside the area which Miklosko saved well by his post but just three minutes later the game had turned on its head as Rangers scored with just about their first chance of the match.

There was an element of luck about it too. Karl Connolly set off on a mazy run from halfway and seemed to have lost the ball a couple of times before Peter Crouch was able to slip it into his path in the box for the Welshman to poke the ball under Nico Vaesen.

Ignited

The goal seemed to ignite Rangers as they took control either side of half time.

Rangers were on top, but after 72 minutes the visitors should have won it. Warren felled Simon Baldry in the box, but though Gallen hit his penalty low and into the corner Miklosko made a stunning full-length save to deny him.

Both sides had their chances to win it after that. Warren's flying header from Tim Breacker's cross screamed just wide for Rangers while at the other end substitute Delroy Facey forced a good one-handed save from Miklosko.

Gallen belongs at Rangers, says Redknapp

Harry Redknapp insists it is important for QPR to have former players like Kevin Gallen as part of their coaching set-up.

Gallen, who made more than 400 appearances for Rangers, last week told West London Sport he would be “absolutely delighted” to return after Redknapp told a fans forum he wanted the 38-year-old to work with the club’s youngsters.

During his spell as Tottenham boss, Redknapp added ex-Rangers and Spurs star Les Ferdinand to his backroom team.

And he is keen for Gallen to join his brother Steve and former team-mates Marc Bircham and Paul Furlong, who are currently working at the club.

“I would like to get him involved with the kids here because he’s a real QPR man and there’s got to be a place at the club for people like him” said Redknapp.

“It was great to see Liverpool saying that Robbie Fowler, Stevie McMananan and Rob Jones are going to get involved. It’s brilliant.

“I did it at Tottenham. I brought Les Ferdinand out of the wilderness if you like and Tim Sherwood too.

“They’ve done a great job at Tottenham with the young players. It’s good to do that and give these lads a chance.

“This is Kevin Gallen’s club, so I would love to have him back.”

Redknapp would also like Ferdinand to join him at QPR, although last year a planned return to Loftus Road for the former England striker did not materialise.

He said: “I think Les is well in at Tottenham now, but QPR would be close to his heart.”
