Echo that zed, Happy Birthday Mr Barker. ;D Yes, he did play in the Premier league for us. Sorry, to clarify, this often comes up in debate with fans as some seem to think he never did.

Ever think how old someone has to be to remember seeing QPR play in the Premiership?

Saw him play many times for us. Worked very hard all the time with limited skills but got his share of goals and had good speed. I think his dad was a beeb comedian. Thought Eric Barkers son but isnt. So this is wrong.

Very happy birthday, Simon. You were always underated at QPR but the contribution you made was enormous and well-appreciated by QPR loyalists. I'll never forgot the day we lost at Port Vale and were facing relegation. At the end of the matchh this figure ran across from the Port Vale dug out to applaud the QPR fans. Took us a few seconds to realise it was Simon. Now that showed real cred and he got a huge reception for the gesture. A lovely guy and always one of the QPR family.

Happy birthday Simon.
A loyal servant to the club and a joy to watch. I still remember his equalizer against Liverpool in the FA Cup 1989 making it 2-2 like it was yesterday.

Happy Birthday Mavis!
Remember his debut v Al Ahly and thought we'd got a decent player (mind you, thought that Kevin Brock was destined for greatness after his debut the year before!). Took him a good couple of seasons to get going but was a vital cog in Francis's sides of the early nineties.

I didn't see Saturday's programme, but I understand there was a piece on in him Sat's programme, which at least some (on LFW) was mocking him. Don't know if that was so. Anyway...Welcome to 50th Year HIS PFA PROFILE Simon Barker, Assistant Chief Executive. Simon embarked on a career as a professional footballer in 1981 at Blackburn Rovers where he appeared in 213 league and cup matches and scored 41 goals. During this period with the club he earned a winners medal in the Full Members Cup Final, and was capped four times when playing for England U-21’s and in 1988 was transferred for a then club record fee of £400,000 to First Division, Queens Park Rangers. Simon played with distinction at QPR for 10 years in the top flight of professional football and after appearing in 376 league and cup matches and scoring 41 goals he stands eleventh in the club’s list of record appearance holders. He earned a well deserved testimonial in his final year with the club before joining Port Vale in 1998 for a short spell, appearing 35 times and scoring 2 goals.. Simon retired from professional football through injury in 1999 at the ripe old age of 35. His professional career spanned 19 years, and he appeared in a total of 624 competitive matches and scored 84 goals. Simon had performed the PFA Delegate role at all his professional clubs and was a member of the PFA’s Management Committee for 5 years. It therefore seemed a logical progression to join the PFA on a full time basis and this he did in 2000 after retiring from playing. In his role as Assistant Chief Executive at the PFA, Simon manages contractual, regulation and disciplinary issues between players, clubs and governing bodies, and educates and assists members on issues that affect their careers such as anti-doping, betting, discipline, agents, pensions, insurance and retraining. He is also a Trustee of the Professional Footballers’ Pension Scheme and National Football Museum in addition he is a Director of the Professional Players Federation and Sports Dispute Resolution Panel www.thepfa.com/playermanagement/staff/StaffPopup?guid=589a8a62-b7ef-4f23-89c7-f09df74e7695

ph.sports.yahoo.com/news/bhutia-represent-asia-fifpro-panel-032400625--spt.html Barker GOAL.comBy Nikhil Jitendran | GOAL.com – 7 hours ago Bhutia to represent Asia on the FIFPro panel Bhaichung Bhutia’s contributions to Indian football have been entensive and impressive, and now he has finally been given a higher mantle to look forward to. The revered ex-Indian skipper was elected onto th e technical committee of FIFPro, world governing body for players, on a four year term. The decision was taken during the annual FIFPro Congress which was held at Ljubljana, Slovenia from October 22 to 24.The panel is constituted of six personnel, three from Europe, and one each from South America, Asia and Africa respectively.
Elucidating the finer points of the role he will perform during his tenure on the panel, the FPAI stated, "As part of his role on the technical committee of FIFPro, the major issues that will be discussed and dealt with are player safety, weather and playing conditions, types of playing pitches/surfaces, rules changes in the game of football affecting players and many other matters where FIFPro works for the benefit of players. They work closely with FIFA on all issues affecting players." The members from Europe are Vladimir Leonchenko, president of the Russian Association for Football Players and Coaches, Simon Barker former QPR player and England junior international and Gernot Zirngast, a former Austrian international.Africa gets represented by Cameroonian international, Geremi Njitap while the South America’s are represented by Bolivian international Jose Milton Melgar. "It is a great achievement for an Indian to be the only representative from Asia on the world committee," added the FPAI, who credited the effort put in by Bhutia to redevelop and reinstitute the players’ body in the subcontinent. Cyrus Confectioner, the general manager of FPAI, was included in the Corporate Social Responsibility Committee.

Great player, bit of an unsung hero. A player from a team that didnt always have all the skills but gave you everything on the pitch, with the Bardsleys, Holloways etc. Great times, unlike this dross at the minute under Jimmy.
Happy 52nd
