McFlynn feels at home with Sydney FCIAN MCCULLOUGH

Terry McFlynn may not be the biggest name in the Sydney FC dressing room, but it is no surprise that Sky Blues' rise to the top of the A-League ladder has coincided with his return to the side.
The displays of the hard-working Northern Irish midfielder, one of only three survivors from the club's 2005-06 premiership-winning side, have been largely unheralded since he earned a contract after paying his own air fare from London to attend a trial.
McFlynn's value to the team was shown last season where Sydney missed the finals for the first time in their history after McFlynn was sidelined for 10 weeks with a knee injury.
And the 28-year-old's month-long absence due to a thigh injury earlier this season saw the Sky Blues slip to three defeats in four games, in what was the first test of coach Vitezslav Lavicka's reign at a club where boardroom patience has been notoriously thin.
Though pleased with his performances this season, being back in action and pain-free is more of a bonus to McFlynn.
"I tore my posterior cruciate ligament last season and was out for nine games and found it hard to get back to get back my best form when I returned," he told AAP.
"And this season I picked up a thigh injury that kept me out for a month, so it is great to be fit and playing in a winning team again."
The former QPR trainee is also hopeful he can come to an agreement to stay at the club with his contract up at the end of this season.
"There has been no discussions just yet, but I am not too concerned at the moment but if they board come to me with an offer I would be more than happy to sign," he said.
"I have been here since day one and love the club, the players and have a great relationship with the fans. I feel very much this is my club and where I want to be."
McFlynn also believes the spirit at Sydney is the best it's ever been and credits Lavicka with keeping the smiles on the players' faces.
"A winning team is always a happy team, but the new manager has really focused on making the players feel like they are a family," he said.
"Before we head home to our own families after training we sit down and eat together.
"Although we were all good friends and socialised with one another, we now spend a lot more time in each other's company at work and it has been great, and our place on the league table shows we are heading in the right direction."
