Hopefully, not the last.
We we were at Gingers ale House with this massive screen the size of a penalty box, and the good news is Setanta has been bought and is alive and well.
So surrounded by Liverpool fans, Birmingham Sunderland spurs and Stoke fans your reporter
the only Rs, fan, (rest were sleeping off their hangovers). A huge ram waddles out, looking like one more meal would put him out of his misery, surrounded by a colour guard and I think the last Derby survivor of the War, were at attention, whilst some bloke sang God Save the Queen,
which Might have been god save Derby county, after the match.
The match started out with us controlling the ball with these short deft accurate passes
and at about 7 mins. Busz, alsmost had one which just missed the r. post, definiteley offside, but since it wasnt called, he was onside.
Derby had little of the ball until a free kick was given against us in our area and the kick, swiftly taken saw our team stationary as he pushes it forward to Paul Dickov who walks in and scores. I thought with a name like that he would have retired, but hes still around.
Anyway he was obviously offside, but it wasnt called so he was onside.
The rest of the next 10 mins or so we had some chances and they did but a free kick was awarded again within striking distance. Our wall was hurriedly assembled and I didnt think.
they let Cerny see the ball. Anyway it was well taken and curved just next to the right post for their 2-0 lead. Cerny toward the left side of the net,was a spectator. So 2-0 down, we
had to score the next goal or...
our play though was still good with fine passing, although it wasnt brisk enough for me but
a hundred times better than I have seen them play in years. Still ,Radek had to make a great save when the defence deserted him. Borrowdale seemed too casual on defence during this time and was outplayed. He was much better going forward though.
Busz got scissored by two rams and looked bad, but shook it off. Now it seemed that Taraabt
started to really move the team with some delicious skill and was awarded a free kick. (He is more muscular and bigger than I had thought.).
He put an unbelievable shot curving r to l on the inside of the post by a cm. which I dont think Led Yeshin would have stopped. (or Led Zeppelin).
We played the half out with attack after attack on their goal with some wonderful injury time
and we went off unlucky to not be even at least.
The second half found the rams a bit more mobile but suddenly a through pass to Simpson, who really played well, putting a shot into the net with aplomb. Their defence was static there, which helped.
That to me turned the game. Taraabt, Busz, Rowlands, skill was too much for Derby and Gavin Mahon played the game of his life except for one nasty back pass in our area which Gorkss got out of trouble. By the way, Gorkss also saved a goal on a great cross to the right which looked like a goal before Kaspar butted his tall head between the post and a jumping ram for a goal saver.
Back to Gavin who was so sturdy together with Faurlin. Slow sure deliberate but positioned
well and he maneuvered toward net and beat Bywater badly for our third, goal. Now Im in an anxious mad state, can we hold it. If I was on Cardiac drugs would have taken one.
Still derby do threaten and then Mag., makes changes. Took off Jay, Taraabt. I thought well
"dont make changes" but he can sense when players ate tired and we could see that too.
Also Legs came on for Ramage who had not shown too much, and Legs was bright agile and almost got through.
Then it happenned. Routledge fell down in the penalty area. Well he was pushed and lost his balance imo.and the portly ref awarded a penalty. I thought no, not really, especially the game in their place and it being so close.
Still up steps Busz and belts one that might be on the way to Hungary if there was no net.
Magnificent penalty which only Reg Allen could have stopped. (No not really).
The game was now ours and County really did not do too much to mount any challenge,
and really I thought were mediocre. Still we are making a lot of teams look mediocre with our
play.
Its only end of October, but winning begets winning. Barring any injuries to Taraabt, Busz, Rowly or Simpson, Gorkss whoever,Stewart, we could go up. But as a real QPR fan still much too early, but this team is better than I have seen for years. Thanks for listening and if I got it wrong, or disagree will try better, next time. Now have to find the Leicester match somewhere.
