But he sure knew how to buy players And sell them...And buy more...And sell them...And buy... Amazing - if not completely surprising - stuff from QPR: If we need a forward to get us promoted...and we've had weeks and weeks and weeks - is it that hard for our club to do it. If Briatore doesn't really plan on promotion, this year, fine. So be it. But if he wants promotion, better get his act together.

Don't mention Docherty please, at all......
He sold Goddard and Allen saying we had better in the reserves coming through.
Lying jock toad!

That would be the forward line of Dean Neal and Bob Hazell. Not to mention selling Stan Bowles But he needed the money to buy Tommy Langley ! I've often wondered if Docherty's sacking that summer had not been reversed, and we'd gotten Venables a few months earlier (before selling Allen and Goddard), would we have kept them both and how would they have developed.

Tommy Docherty was once quoted as saying that all football managers were professional lies and cheats. He certainly was.

completely disagree with you guys, when he built the great bonntti harris webb hinton mctreadie boyle hollins houseman osgood hutchinson cook team he displayed although he was no terry venables who I consider was the finest manager ever to manage qpr or the complete picture. docherty proved that he could relentlessly buy and sell players without any emotionall involvement' Make no mistake Jim Gregory sold allen and goddard knowing that the two million could finance a rebuilding pirogram. So back to the original question Venables had everything, but docherty had the ability to buy and sell players

My point is that you have some people voicing what a good manager sexton was but he never had the ability to buy and sell players he inherited jagos astute purchasing at rangers he inherited docherties astute purchases at chelsea and god only knows who he inherited the man uts team from think it was once again docherty. but my point is that not every manager can buy and sell we have yet to see if dowie can but he probabley cant. only venables had all the gifts he could do everything but money seemed to destrroy him so going back to basics at loftus road will do him and us a great turn hes 65 now in five years francis can take over

I think Docherty was impulsive and he'd buy and sell because he'd like to buy and sell. And he sold off Venables and Bridges and George Graham from Chelsea: Three very fine players Docherty was to be admired for his willingness to give youth an early chance.

yes barry bridges has to be the most controversal sale of all time this brilliant youngster totalled up 80 goals in a 140 appearances he could play wing as well as center forward him and tambling were such a goal threat and for no apperent reason sells him docherty said it was because bridges had stayed out late drinking
