SUPPORTERS CONDEMN ABUSE
Mon 05 Oct 2009
Barnet FC Supporters Association committee have issued a statement condemning the abuse directed at former Barnet player Mark Arber by sections of home fans during last week's 2-0 defeat of Dagenham & Redbridge.
The statement says: "The persistence and severity of the abuse resulted in the line of acceptability being crossed".
Barnet FC, proud of its reputation as a family club, welcomes and backs the supporters' statement about the abuse. John Still, the Dagenham manager, complained on the night about the extent of the abuse, which could be heard on the radio and on DVDs.
The main complaint concerned the use of a four-letter word aimed at Arber.
The BFCSA statement in full reads: "Following the abusive chants towards Mark Arber from some sections of Barnet fans during last Tuesday's game against Dagenham & Redbridge, the BFCSA would, firstly, like to condemn the extent of the abuse. While we share the view that football stadia should never be a sterile environment and that banter is part-and-parcel of the game, it is felt that the persistence and severity of the abuse last Tuesday resulted in the line of acceptability being crossed.
"Secondly, a couple of issues regarding the ejection of Barnet supporters were raised by members, and the BFCSA will be discussing these with the police and the club in the near future. Replies will be given to the members concerned".
Andy Wigley, the police liaison officer, is being invited to a committee meeting next week to discuss the Dagenham game and, in particular, the use of the new CCTV system which covers all areas of the ground. There were seven Barnet ejections or arrests on the night - plus one from Dagenham & Redbridge.
